Non ci sono cantanti che sanno fare e che hanno il senso del dovere, la lealta' vocale, l'animo per poter reggere il "peso" di vocalita' vera! (ne le palle di accettare la loro natura ,cosi o cosa...) Tutti vogliono diventar qualcosa e veloce. E la vera VOCE muore. Grande Giacomini. Veramente uno tra i pocchi
I absolutely agree! It saddens me deeply that the theater community did not embrace him as they did other "tenors," even though Maestro Giacomini was the authentic dramatic tenor after MDM (and Corelli) retired.
This has got to be one of the best renditions of this aria available in video. Giacomini in great voice. Just beautiful! This is the kind of sound many of us wish could be heard in the world of opera today.
No matter how many times I watch this (and I have many times) Giacomini gets better and better. It is still amazing to me that someone can achieve this kind of vocalist. I'm in awe of him.
As much as i appreciate many of today's singers, you can send most of them off on a spaceship to the moon and just let me listen to Giacomini. What a thrilling performance. His voice is huge and bronze and controlled and masculine. And, from the interviews that I've watched, he seems like a very intelligent and introspective person. Bravo!
I am trying to understand just how he has arrived at his sung voice. It appears to originate from his chest, and also deep in his throat, and then also resonates in the head. I am not your age, at a youthful seventy seven, so my voice is still developing? My voice coach is a young tenor singing his first Duke of Mantua in the UK, and he is now showing me how to generate as much good resonance as possible. Intelligence and introspection also mark out my coach, coupled with the desire to constantly improve.

He was a very quirky and even neurotic person, and major houses felt they could not be secure in engaging him. And truth to tell, it was not nearly as bad as Domingo, but he did crack 'acuti' a lot.
He was, however, very inconsistent from night to night, and the voice eventually became 'molto ingolata'. Corelli, of course, was absolutely unique, but I heard an Alvaro from Gia. in the early 80's where the voice was every bit as big as Franco's.

Giacomini grande voce ma il suo recitar-cantando è privo di emozioni!!! Ma valà! Tutti a elogiare del Monaco e Corelli... Del Monaco, una volta capito che era tenuto sul palmo di mano dal palcoscenico internazionale ha cominciato a urlare tutto perchè il pubblico voleva quello (voce eccezionale e meravigliosa completamente buttata a favore del fattore "fenomeno"). Corelli meraviglioso, ma spesso incapace di sostenere la propria forza vocale che più di qualche volta lo portava a urlare tutto.
insomma tutti urlatori...Giacomini è un grande tenore,non ho dubbi in questo...tuttavia per il mio modo di intendere la lirica non lo ritengo al pari di MDM... saluti

I "maestri" di canto dicono sempre due cose: -porta la voce avanti e porta la voce in alto- Ambedue sono errate e comportano pesanti ripercussioni sul fisico del cantante. Giacomini, peraltro ottimo tenore, portava la voce molto avanti. Io direi invece di portare semplicemente la voce in maschera frontale, intendendo così una fonazione naturale dove la voce risuoni nelle cavità spontanee di fonazione, senza altro impegno che la pressione della muscolatura addominale sul diaframma e, quindi, sul fiato. Dopodiché è sufficiente raccogliere il suono per renderlo di perfetta qualità. Raccogliere non significa certo stringere ma pronunciare le vocali non aperte alla Di Stefano, per fare un paragone e tutti comprendono bene la differenza tra una "o" aperta e una "o" chiusa.
Grande Bepi... Oggigiorno ci sognamo cantanti così.

I had the pleasure of being in an Aida with him in the late 80's...as good as he sounds here, he sounded 10x better live.

You are right...but what dramatic Italian tenor wants to sing that German stuff? It is so unvocal, and ruins almost all who sing it.
