The Wound-Dresser is an incredible set of poems by Walt Whitman recounting his time as a Civil War nurse.
I wrote most of this in 2018 (at 19 years old) as part of my composition recital. I took great liberties with the text setting and use a harmonic language I seldom use anymore. You will notice the lack of key signatures. It is highly chromatic and can be quite difficult to play and sing at times. I wanted to reflect the darkness of the poetry with subtle hints of sweetness as it is found within the verses!
