    Nice to watch.
    I used to live in Su der land but have lived in Brisbane for the last 13 or so years, used to do a lot of lead welding and when I came here the answer to joining lead flashings was (and still is, silicone!). I had to get the correct blowpipe sent out from BOC by my brother! People over here couldn't believe that you could actually weld lead.
    I never was a fan of the herringbone weld though.

    I learnt lead burning back in the early 70's, at the Brixton school of building, just make sure there is no air gaps, or it drops through, and scrape the sheet lead with a shave hook to remove the oxidised surface on the sheet lead, before you start, unless it's nice clean like yours, were you using oxy- acetylene with a " BOC model O " torch, nice bit of work, do you do a demo' of vertical lead burning ?

      @@Leadworx00 that’s what I thought. Any time I’ve tried not scraping it the weld just doesn’t stick. It looks like you’ve got quite a bit of heat going there. Maybe that’s the secret?

    Hi great video. I just bought the CWS oxygen propane mini kit. I was just wondering if you use propane or acetylene? Or if you have preference?

    • @Leadworx00
      @Leadworx00  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use oxy-acetylene

    • @cba1424
      @cba1424 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How have you been finding the kit? I've had one for a couple of weeks to start practising with rather than the cost of renting bottles.
      Although I'm making some progress with basic welds(and a lot of holes) in scrap i can never seem to get the same ball tip as shown in most of the videos rather it gives quite a pointed tip. I'm guessing its the propane though.

    • @samtemple3182
      @samtemple3182 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cba1424 hi Lee. It’s a great bit of kit. I had to use my old oxy turbo kit last week as my cws kit oxygen ran out. The difference is night and day. You won’t be able to get the globe/ball flame on the propane bottles I think that is only possible on the acetylene + oxygen. I started off practicing with #2 nozzle. I found it a bit less fierce. Then moved up to #3.

    • @cba1424
      @cba1424 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samtemple3182 Hi Sam! Thanks for the reply! Yes I've been really pleased with it. I did think about getting one of the oxyturbo kits but thought the CWS one would be better in the long run. I can honestly say I've never welded anything in my life before but I have been practicing about half an hour a day in my garage its quite frustrating but satisfying too haha. Of course we see all these guys videos and it's perfect but they have been at it years 👍

      I’ve been lead working for a year and just started to learn welding. I’m currently practising In my shed with a oxyturbo jet pack. It’s more difficult because the flame can be inconsistent, my boss has assured me that if you can weld with them it’ll be easy with the proper oxygen acetylene model O setup. Just keep practising and I wish you all the best mate👍

    • @leonardpearlman4017
      @leonardpearlman4017 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ??? Are you talking about lead-coated stainless? Terne-coated Stainless? Welding a sheet of lead to a sheet of stainless sounds flatly impossible! You might be able to solder them and even that sounds like a struggle. Might neat great cleanliness and corrosive flux.

      Leadworx can I do this with 4lb lead? I need to solder some lead around the curb on my shower pan. Also I am using map gas with an adjustable tip

    • @Leadworx00
      @Leadworx00  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      4lb is a weight so not too sure what you have there. As long as its lead you should be able to weld with it.... However it must be clean and I would recommend having it in thin strips or you will end up with a messy pool. Also ensure that there is a backing to the weld area (Hard flat surface) as you will blow through any gaps and cavities. (Fire warning! Make sure there is nothing flammable behind your weld area). Practice on something first as if you haven't welded before as you will struggle. I will do a video soon highlighting some of the pitfalls and things to look out for.

    • @iliketakingshowers
      @iliketakingshowers 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leadworx ok thanks. The lead I am working with 4lb sheet lead. I thought the lead has to be a certain thickness to weld this way

    • @markrainford1219
      @markrainford1219 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      4lb lead would be 4lb per square foot, as 5lb lead pipe is 5lb per linear foot. In the UK we call it code 4.

      don't eat drink or smoke without washing your hands, standard. wear gloves, and mask . regular blood tests when working full time around lead and learn the symptoms. it is toxic and yet takes a lot to effect the organs of an adult, children and infants can be effected quite severely. :) take care
