In the past few weeks we have been on somewhat of a “blind-tasting” binge. It wasn’t necessarily something that we had planned, it just manifested itself before our eyes. This week's show is the latest in that series as we will be trying two scotches side by side without knowing which one is which. The two we have for this episode are the Finlaggan and the Laphroaig. The Finlaggan is an Islay made for Trader Joe’s that costs $20 a bottle and most importantly, was recommended by our Scotch consigliere Fitz. The Laphroaig is a 10 year, usually under $40 a bottle and has been a favorite for several years. We chose these two for comparison because they are from the same area and as close to the same style representation as we had readily available. What did we think? What do you think? just came across you youtube about Laphroaig and Finlaggan comparison. i am a big Laphroaig 10 and Lagavulin 8yr fan. But for my everyday go to Scotch I must say Trader Joe's Finlaggan is hard to beat!! The price is right and the last is right there with the other 2. For everyday smoke and peat it can't be beat!!!
Rumor is that Finlaggan is a young Lagavulin that went into a Caol Ila barrel.
Where do I find Laphroaig 10 for $37??
Costco often has it for $30-35.

They could do the blind test because they didn't know the Finlaggan thing. Once you have tasted, you will ALWAYS know which one is the Finlaggan. Because the taste is very unique.
BTW here in Europe that Finlaggan cost 29€ and the Laphroaig is 38€
I guess I'd go with the lower-priced option.
Is this Finlagan the original or the old reserve ?
