So incase you're wondering why the poster stayed on screen even after the movie started, we were determined to keep Sarah's narration at the start but YT just kept marking it with copyright, and for some bizarre reason, plastering a poster on top of it fixed it.

In the official novelization of T2, the epilogue reveals that elderly Sarah hired a private detective to find out what happens to Kyle Reese in the new timeline she created. She learned that he's married with a family living an ordinary peaceful life. Sarah didn't try to contact him because it would be pointless and because she didn't want to disrupt his life, but she was just glad to know that he's safe and happy.
When the American Film Institute made a list of 100 Greatest Movie Heroes and Villains, Arnold's Terminator made it onto both the heroes and villains lists. Jodie Foster (who was one of the Institute members who voted him onto the heroes list) said that the character is compelling because "He's the monster who wants to be good." I found that kind of touching.

You guys had some excellent thoughts and speculations at the end about the liquid nitrogen and the glitching that the T-1000 was experiencing. You got it right for the most part! Excellent!
Two things - First is background - according to the novelization, the T-1000's most BASIC command is "find main mass and join together". The range that the T-1000 can order it's various blobs around is 14 Kilometers. If the main mass of the T-1000 moves beyond that range, the default directive for the smaller mass is "Hide and Blend in". Thus it would do something like spread out over the surface of a floor, a wall, or a pipe or railing, and mimic the underlying object, becoming a slightly thicker layer - like paint - over the object it is mimicking. This command also kicks in if the T-1000 is badly damaged.
So what happened with the glitching? Well - the whole mass of the T-1000 was damaged at a deep level by the freezing and re-thawing. Given enough time it would repair itself internally and reset. But the T-1000's "kill mission" took priority. BUT - since the entire mass was damaged, the command to "Hide and blend in" was constantly kicking in, and the T-1000 was constantly having to override this in order to continue the chase.
Secondly and related to the first item - If you watch the film again - take notice of the fact that the T-1000 after the freeze and thaw is moving SIGNIFICANTLY slower than at any other time in the film! This is because he's constantly having to fight that "blend in" command and not just melt flat over the ground (like at the hospital). So he's moving more cautiously and deliberately trying to keep himself together and operational enough to finish the mission.

    • @quintonhowells299
      @quintonhowells299 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I never read the adaption; to me (growing up), it was always a case of heat. Because T-1000 is, at room temperature, a memetic poly-alloy, it stands to reason that it would become inherently more memetic under higher ambient temperatures (as shown in the extended cut), and no counter programming was ever written, because this was not an anticipated operational scenario. It was so unanticipated that, having to anticipate and account for any and every other scenario before this one, just based on how likely that scenario is to occur, would cause whole seconds' worth of operational delay

Nice! Thanks for the info. Meshes perfectly with my own reasoning, and adds quite a few great twists as well.
I like to think about the background reasoning behind many movie scenes. Unluckily for me my brain does that on automatic, even when watching movies in the theater. If a movie does not engage my brain fully it tends to spew out such little factoids at my consciousness while watching it for the first time. Again, unluckily for me, my other brain centers, especially the one for self-control don't have enough calculation time to keep my mouth from being overridden when a particularly ridiculous concept pops up.
Like in one of the Star Wars prequels when Yoda suddenly bounces around Count Dooku with a light saber in his hands.
In the theater that caused me to loudly call out (in German): "Oh, Yoda Kampfflummi!" / "Oh Yoda combat bouncy ball!" generating a few laughs, but the scene was totally busted of all its tenseness and only became a cartoon scene after that. Sorry to all my fellow movie goers, but I just couldn't help myself.

I was 11 when T2 came out, and this movie was EVERYWHERE! I had to wait till it came out on video to see it... but even if I'd seen it at the cinema, there was no way avoid knowing the main plot twist of Arnie being the good guy because it was made clear in all the pre-release publicity. Cameron fully intended from the get-go to make the Terminator the good guy - it wasn't a publicity ploy or the result of market testing or anything - but he wanted it to be a secret. The studio, however, was forced into revealing it because at the time of release, several parent groups raised concerns about Arnie playing a violent bad guy again, after he'd starred in a couple of more family-oriented movies and was now seen as a heroic leading man. They were worried that seeing their kids' hero gunning down scores of innocent people would be damaging to children, so the trailers made it explicit, even having a specially filmed shot of Arnie turning to the camera and saying the line "I swear I will not kill anyone." This is why it's so cool seeing people watching it for the first time and being completely oblivious to the twist! It's how James Cameron wanted it, and it's nice to see that it actually works!
Another fun little fact is that Arnie was reluctant at first to have the Terminator be a good guy - this was the role that made his career and he didn't want to mess with what worked, but Cameron was able to talk him round. And it was perfect. Now do True Lies, guys!!

    Four bits of trivia:
    1) When Arnol entered the bar, he was wearing the most ridiculous set of shorts and shoes he could find so that the extras had a more interesting reaction.
    2) Robert Patrick trained how to run fast so he would be realistic when chasing Jhonn on a bike when leaving the mall, nobody knew how fast he was, so he managed to catch up to the bike on the firs take, they had to reshot the scene, this time, with him going a bit slower.
    3) He also trained so that he would not blink when shooting his gun, a natural reaction; In the movie he only blinks twice when shooting, he also reloads it while aiming, and without looking away from Arnold.
    4) When entering the helicopter you can see the T-1000 spawning a third hand to assist with reloading as he pilots the heli.
And that's all I can remember.

There are many different ones. They also looked and acted human, with all the proper working anatomy...remember humans couldn't tell them apart, they used dogs mainly, to identify them. No, when we saw T2 in theatres it WASN'T a surprise that the Arnoldbot was the good guy, because the idiots that made the trailer and marketed it advertised that little spoiler.
And finally, they theatrical version was much better because they left out the T1000 killing the dog, left out the little scenes that showed the T1000 had been damaged from freezing, making it seem that much more frighteningly unstoppable and changed the ending to leave out the snippet of John and Sarah in the future.

I saw this in cinemas at fifteen and thought it was the best movie ever made. However I don't think it has aged well. Some of the stunts you can tell it's a stuntman, and the end just drags.
The interesting stuff is all around Sarah, her incarceration, her total collapse mentally and her ultimately becoming the Terminator.

The overweight security guard that walks over the T-1000 then gets stabbed in the eye was actually a twin. The two were in Good Morning Vietnam. So him starring at himself was not CGI.

5:03 actually they put human tissue on a lot of terminators... according to Reese, the "infiltrator" terminators would pose as humans in the future war. That's why people kept dogs near their hideout entrances.

I saw both Terminator movies when they were released. The Terminator was a more than half empty theatre in Leicester Square. Terminator 2 was also in Leicester Square and on the first night it was like a riot, thousands of people trying to get in any way they could. BTW George if are in AI you should see "Colossus The Forbin Project".

I know this is a year late on here, but watching and enjoying again. Arnold's first film was actually "Hercules in New York" if you can find it, it is a gem. Totally low budget horrible script and Arnold was dubbed over completely...but to see it now is hysterical. David Letterman used to run clips of it whenever Arnold was a guest.

This version of the movie wasn't the Director's cut, btw (not that you said it was). The final scene you saw (future Sarah) wasn't on the theatrical cut or the director's cut, and the very end was slightly different. The version you watched was an easter egg on some releases.

  • @Jinzo9988
    @Jinzo9988 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It feels weird to say this about a movie that used CG a lot, but this movie still looks incredible despite releasing in 1991 and it's because of the practical effects. It was 1991 so I'm sure they had plenty of limitations at the time, including time and budget and not just tech-related constraints, but this movie treats CG for what it is... it's a tool in the toolbox and not a replacement for things. The amount of movies CG would go on to destroy because of its overuse by people who rely on it too much is legendary.
This movie had a lot of moments of ingenuity. The scene where Sarah Connor works on the Terminator in front of a mirror for instance... it's not a mirror at all. Linda Hamilton's real life twin sister is on the "reflection" side and so is Arnold, and in the foreground it's Sarah and the back of a dummy's head. Her sister's mimicking her movements to create the illusion of a mirror being there. That's the genius behind practical effects when done well.

Pretty cool contrast in different styles of "toughness" between the two Terminators. The T-800 is insanely difficult to slow down, and very hard to destroy. The T-1000 is easier to slow down, but conversely much, much harder to destroy. Cool detail.

Deleted Scenes not in the original release:
Orderlies forcing Sarah to take her medicine
    Sarah's dream of Kyle Reese
T-1000 killing the dog and searching John's room
The fixing chip scene (original just had a line saying he was capable of learning)
    Dyson home Day Scene
    Teaching Arnold how to smile
T-1000 feet and hands changing to what they were touching (except at the end, how John Knew he wasn't the real Sarah)
Finally the alternate ending in the park. We didn't know if what they did worked. Leaving the door open for more movies.
I think that was all the deleted scenes.
    Interesting Behind the Scenes facts:
The security guard getting coffee from the vending machine, the actor's twin brother played the identical copy of him.
Speaking of twins, Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) happens to have a twin. And that's how they did the Arnold chip fixing scene that was deleted. There was no mirror. Arnold was sitting on the other side facing us. His dummy sitting closer to us facing away, allowing the camera to pan over and see the whole in the dummy's head. Sarah's twin just matched her movements. Edward Furlog (John) who wasn't moving much was on the side closet to us, facing us holding the light. The other side was a motionless dummy facing away. I wonder if this movie set a record for use of actor twins to create effects.

I had the same thought when I first watched this, wondering who was going to show up first, the terminator or whoever was helping John...
But I realized it's always the "good guy" that will be teleported back first, never the bad. Cause if the bad guy went back first, the future (present time) would instantly change cause it would have killed John with no help. The protector is always the first to show up. 🤷‍♂️👍

  • @crwydryny

Interesting fact the scene where the two orderlies strike Sarah in the gut, the guy kept pulling the strike and messing up the scene causing them to reshoot it several times which resulted in kinda Hamilton injuring her knee, so she told him to "just hit me" after a few more screw ups he finally did it.
Later on when she's escaping and she has to strike him with the mop handle Linda Hamilton actually hit the actor full force part to show him how you do it and part because he really p***ex her off (this was actually confirmed by Linda herself)
Also every time you see the terminator impersonating someone the double is actually a twin not cgi.... (There is very little actual cgi in this film believe it or not it's mostly practical effects) best part is the actors weren't cast because they were twins this fact was discovered after they got the parts so Cameron made full use of this including Linda Hamilton's twin sister Leslie (she plays the t1000 disguised as Sarah and one of the Sarah's in the scene where they cut open Arnie's head... Yeah that's not a mirror that's Linda, Arnie and Edward furlong standing behind a mirror frame while Leslie cuts open a fake Arnie head in the foreground)
Also in the scene in the lift Linda forgot her ear defenders meaning that all those gunshots in that small metal box ruptured her eardrums causing Permanent hearing loss
And on the point of dyson's death it was probably the most realistic, that weird breathing thing he's doing is known as glottal breathing aka death rattle, basically neurons fire off randomly trying to save the body when it's already dead... Sad thing is not enough first aid course teach this as many people perform CPR someone goes into glottal breathing and the person thinks "hey they're breathing we saved them" then they suddenly die, when in reality. They're not actually breathing just going through the actions
And as for the helicopter not only did they actually fly it that low they didn't have permission or insurance to film the scene so Cameron, the pilot, a camera man and our hero's went out in the middle of the night filmed the scene then got out of there pretty quick before the police showed up. They did it all in one shot, no support crew, no emergency services nothing

Personally this was good, but I actually prefer the theatrical version. I had a discussion with a friend of mine who considers the whole thing done with this movie because of this alternate ending. However, I disagree, as John living is the proof that Judgement day can not be stopped. The thing of it is, it's a paradox loop. Skynet saw John as a threat and sent back a terminator to kill him before he was born. But this actually led to John being born in the first place. But if Skynet hadn't sent a terminator back, Skynet may not have been created in the first place. So it's a loop. And if the movie The Time Machine had taught anything about time travel is that you can't really remove what has already taken place. I reject this alternate ending because it just simply can't happen. On a side note, I really enjoyed T3. The others are worth a watch, and Terminator Dark Fate was pretty neat, and a fun watch.
