Reminder: This may seem old-fashioned horrible, but at the time, it was REALLY PROGRESSIVE.

Yea same thing with song of the south and aunt jemima. It was SUPER PROGRESSIVE and helped the nations o much, but is now seen as “racist”, just like this does now

@@joeygreen8091 nah, Aunt Jemima was created by a black comedian and played by a black woman specifically to bring black faces into normal life.
And song of the south promoted a black role model teaching a white kid life lessons, and his dad was a lawyer protecting a black client.
That was pretty progressive, and there still isn’t one thing about it that people can rightfully call racist.
“They make the black people sound uneducated, and give them too much slang”
They WERE uneducated, you would be too if you just got out of slavery. And black people still speak like that today, it’s a community thing.
“They had the black people be all of the servants and slave away in the fields”
What do you think happened to most of the black people after the civil war? Answer: they worked for their old employers doing the same job, and were rather content. They were free now.

@@aidanlutz8106 yea, I know plenty about share cropping. To say most went to sharecropping is just not true. Many did, many also left, but more just stayed where they were. It was normally the second generation or some more select groups that did sharecropping.
And even with sharecropping, they still worked for the same person.

Placing this video in its historic content, it should be seen as progressive and pro feminist. It was clearly produce as a training film for male managers that hold biases against women in the workplace. You should note that at the end of the video the personnel manager told him that though he thought things were better when there were all men working under him, now with the women in the workforce his productivity was actually up. The video was clearly showing that the problems that Brad had was generated by his intolerant attitude. For example, it was a reasonable request not to be moved after you have your workstation setup. And, though he complained about that women's work space, the video showed a well utilized yet organize space. The other woman had given him a 6 months notice about her departure yet he failed to even note it. Also, he is obviously being shown to be impatient with a woman who had just been put on a piece of equipment that she had never utilized before. The man employee that works under him was obviously shown to be a "Mindless Yes Man" underpinning a lack of creativity often needed in engineering positions. Overall, it should be noted that this being the 1950s and that they are creating a training film about including women in engineering jobs, which were not traditional jobs for many women at the time, shows some real foresight. So no, I don't see this as some kind of lack of progressive thinking from the 1950s but in fact a serious attempt to move us forward within the content of the language and culture at the time.
Thank you for posting this video.

Ah, don't bullshit me, US in 1920s-1960s had mafia shootouts in the streets, extortion, opium dens, a share of serial killers, cancer causing pesticides, racial segregation and a lotta other crap. You could live really well if you were a part of upper-middle class, which you either had to be born into or spend far more years than today to become part of. Don't even get me started on Germany. Russia had famines, people getting death sentences or going to GULAGs for "treason" if they criticized government in any way, often without any evidence or trial, people wiping their asses with newspapers, becuase there was no toilet paper. Having your apartment cleaned out by a burglar was simply not the worst thing that could happen. Now, families breaking apart? It's always happened, since the dawn of time. Just read some literature classics - different times, same issues. Human relations are far more complicated than just multiplying and earning enough to have food and somewhere to live. 1950s were a short period of time when America was as sky high on the money it made off WW2, which it obviously ran out of in the next 2 decades, as Courteney Love was high on heroin through the 1990s. The thing about nostalgia is that you only remember the good things.

This PSA is terrible for multiple reasons.
    1. It portrays the guy as a sexist, which he is, but he does bring up some legitimate claims that get ignored.
    2. One such claims is that they have higher productivity, but some of the women simply were not showing up for work and thus being replaced or made a fuss at all about having to move for the importance of the work.
    3. It's more of a mixed message between Brad being sexist vs women not meeting the standards of the workplace rather than Brad's personal standards for women, which conflicts the issue that sexism is bad and personnel niche that alters the workplace is good or that personal standards are good, but productivity of the business is negligible so long as the employees are happy.
    4. He shouldn't be angry that she was getting married when he lost track of time since the engagement was 6 months prior, but she should have given her 2 weeks notice so they could have found the time to replace her. It may be an issue of the time where they didn't consider this beforehand, but simply leaving in a rush because the thing you were holding out for can be a big inconvenience for the business also. Typically, they are both wrong.
    5. Also, to say that your only available worker is a woman and the trouble between the relationship is "entirely" up the the boss is ridiculous. That relationship revolves around both parties regardless, but it is his job to make the first move and set the tone as the boss. To say whether she is trouble is the fault of him wrong, but at the same time, he shouldn't be too picky with what he can get with what he needs. Basic human instinct, let alone animal instinct is in conflict with his perceptions, but they advice he gets is technically wrong.
Again, this is a pretty bad PSA. I shouldn't be picking apart all these problems when the main subject of the PSA is sexism when there are legitimate business practices being in conflict giving him an actual plausible issue.

    • @givecamichips
      @givecamichips 5 ปีที่แล้ว

"[I'll be leaving] at the end of next week"
Sounds like 2 weeks' notice to me.
Brad is basically bristling at the women because they have different habits than men. (It isn't as if men don't also need to be replaced or get annoyed at changing something they are comfortable with.) Of course it isn't all up to him but he really should try to be more flexible. As Brad's boss, I think telling him that it is entirely up to him is probably what would get him to give half-effort which may be enough.

No tony, not much has changed, except single parent rates, drug use rates, divorce rates, abortion rates, fatherless children rates, mental health and illness rates, worsening of the economy, murder and crime rates, loss of living-wage jobs; no, no much has changed at all. Minorities are now a privileged class of people thanks to a rise of Communism and Marxism, and a tearing apart of the Constitution and nuclear family. And that's all that matters, no matter what else has happened....
