The difference is this:
If someone is showing off contemporary stuff, and they paid full price, or got free stuff for promoting it, that’s crass.
If someone is showing me something uncommon or antique and explaining some context, and telling me prices so that I have a better understanding of the market… that’s useful. It’s more like browsing a thrift or antique shop with a knowledgeable friend, and listening to them info dump on a favourite subject.
Do I like all the same pieces you do? Nope. But your excitement and knowledge/curiosity - excellent content.

When I was little I *loved* looking through my grandma's jewelry. She had many pieces similar to what you picked up. She got rid of many of them over the years but I do have a few. Thanks for reminding me of happy memories!

I have a similar memory, and my grandma has always had a jewelry armoire which was like Narnia for accessories 😍✨ I blame her for my addiction 😂

I think now I feel like you should use some more "pastel" holographic colors for your ongoing color block obsession cause well just cause lmao Great finds! I found a Tivoli brooch in great condition in a $5 basket at an antique mall once. My then husband wouldn't let me buy it until I sat in Barnes & Nobles for 2 hours looking through a collectors book to find it. It was worth over $200 he immediately said let's go get it. It was gone of course. I always thought he was a twat for refusing to let me spend $5. That controlling shit is one of the many many reasons he's my ex husband.
Oh no! One more reason for me to avoid husbands like the plague! 🧛♀️

My goodness, that whole set of earrings, brooch and bracelet you put together with the red stones is simply DIVINE. I can imagine all that worn with a red silk satin jacket or a red velvet jacket.
That 1940s bracelet could be sterling it could have a rhodium plating over it. In the 40s jewelry companies used sterling instead of base metals because of the war. Great pick ups.

Costume jewellery is not really my bag, but your enthusiastic descriptions of these pieces and why you love them so much makes mesmerising viewing! Good luck with saving for a house - with any saving goal you have to balance self-restraint with also having a life, so I think every so often a splurge on stuff that makes you happy is entirely justified 😊

Fortunately I have told my husband enough not to buy me expensive jewelry that I will not wear that he does not do that. Buying jewelry that you love and will wear is so much better. Really enjoyed the pieces.

I highly recommend Dracula the ballet, so beautiful and a little bit raunchy ;-) the red necklace would be very fitting. I got to go a couple of years ago and LOVED the opportunity to get my grown up glam goth frocks out for the theatre
Fantastic costume jewelry. The red necklaces would be perfect to wear to the Dracula ballet. (I've seen it twice). If I get to see Dracula ballet again, I would wear my Grandmother's 1960s red Murano glass necklace

I love vintage jewelry 😍 myself. A few years ago a older lady in her late 80's ran her church bazzar for 40 + yrs . Her daughter didn't want her vintage treasures. I bought 2 shoes boxes full of custom jewelry from 40's- 60's I spent $200. For all . Not bad for a small town church. Talk about Christmas. . I'm one happy lady ..

i have a broach that was my mothers, when I wear it I always get compliments, I also have a silk scarf as well which always has great memories of her.

100% with you on costume vs 'real' jewellery! I love the colour and creativity of pieces that use beads, rhinestones, & semi-precious stones. And being low(ish) cost isn't just good for managing on a limited budget? It also reduces some stress around things breaking or being lost. Even the most loved pieces do seem to eventually go missing through breakage, clasp failure, or even moving house... At least one's only left mourning their sentimental & aesthetic value, and not having to deal with major insurance issues or $$ losses?

Hi, You are just so lucky to find those pieces. Then again luck is the point where knowledge intersect with opportunity, so good for you. There was only one or two I wouldn't wear, and please do keep the earrings being clips. So many people convert ear clips to studs, which means that people like me can't join the fun, and I feel discriminated😉😊. Must say, that red rhinestone looks FABULOUS with the green that you are wearing. And yes! Very vampiric! I have a few real pieces, but much like a corvid, my Edwardian heart is drawn to the cheap, shiny glass. I have enough colored glass just waiting to become jewelry that I could easily re-glaze all of Notre Dame's windows. Love this haul! And Such Prices!!!

ETA I’ve been looking into inexpensive plating machines on eBay and I wonder if these pieces would be receptive to plating 🤔 With real gold being as expensive as it is now…I have a few herringbone anklets, bracelets and a chain that is starting to wear. Hmmmm I may have to look into this!

I love all the pieces you found, That is awesome you found on such a great sale. My husband found a beautiful real opal necklace, it was on oval opal slightly larger than a quarter, and 14 kt Italian gold, and another rose zirconium on 14 kt gold, he got them at a garage sale for $1.50! Yep. He was curious to see if the opal was real and he had it appraised, it was worth $6,000, and I could not believe it. And it is my birthstone too. We used to go to garage sales all the time, finally had to stop because he just kept bring stuff home we did not need! Anyway, I have a lovely collection of random rhinestone costume jewelry and I like wearing costume, Hubby has a better "eye" for some nicer pieces. He always looked for signature stuff. I did not care that it had to be signed. Of course enjoy when we get to see when you have new jewelry, shoes, bags, gloves, all of it! Vintage is so much more wonderful that what is produced today.

Always love these hauls/ show and tells. It’s so helpful to see what you look for and fun to see all the sparkly things. Vintage Sherman aurora borealis jewellery is very collectible in Canada, I wonder if it’s because it was originally made in Montreal. I was lucky enough to find two pairs of Sherman chandelier earrings at the goodwill for $8 per piece which I thought was a pretty good find!
Nice! I find older rhinestone dangle earrings are hard to come by, so definitely a good steal!
Vintage hauls are some of my favorites! It doesn't carry the same baggage that the more popular fast fashion or amazon hauls do.
