I m Native American and I love to learn. I do love thanksgiving. I can understand both views of celebrating and anti. But what I love most of about Thanksgiving is the compassion and gratefulness. If it weren't for the squanto the rest of the Pilgrims would have died. Which were 20 adults and 30 children.

Yes. That was their mistake. The natives were then murdered by those same people they helped. The Europeans showed no mercy even to children, elderly, and pregnant women in the very first Thanksgiving dinner.

Well, they made Christmas illegal, since theyrightly viewed it as violent and full of drunks. At the time, people chose a homeless person to become 'king', and marched to a rich manor, where they threatened and made good on said threats, much violence like arson, rape, and murder if the master of the house refused them food. Christmas stayed illegal until the 1800s.

We have so much to be thankful for but instead, we always look for things that are not perfect. It seems that more often than not we are trying to criticize the world and the society instead of appreciating what we already have. That being said, we should try to do better and improve our lives, but that can only be done if we stop passively attacking other people and cultures and actually become active builders of the world we want to live in.

The feast also included Atlantic salmon, eel, lobster, clam, oyster, bear, and other game. Lastly, Massasoit got sick afterwards, and was given medicine by the Pilgrims.

That was one good day in a long history of the crushing oppression of the Native Americans. Look, I'm quite left leaning, but understand that this is in the past. You shouldn't feel guilty about this, you didn't do this. Even if your ancestors did, does it matter? You aren't advocating for the destruction of Native Lands. There is no reason to have "white guilt" because you can't control the actions of people in the past. Trust me, I don't blame anyone here for any wrongdoing, and I sure as hell am not trying to cover anything up. I mean honestly, what do I gain by covering this up? Not like it was a partisan thing... Europeans just didn't give a shit about the Natives. Was as simple as that.
I ask that instead of being mindless you consider that maybe you are being lied to. That maybe the left isn't interested in ruining thanksgiving for you. Hell, I still celebrate it with my family and have never felt guilty about that and I hope you all feel the same way. It is genuinely ridiculous that anyone feels the need to fight over this. There is no fight to be had. I hope yall have a good Thanksgiving.

    • @dragonninja3655
      @dragonninja3655 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I wouldn't feel guilt for something I didn't do, and in the long run, the Europeans arrival was good for the natives. The natives were very tribal, always fighting and enslaving each other, even eating their fallen enemies. I don't like or agree the way the Europeans killed so many (though many natives actually helped them take out the worse natives), but I understand that is incredibly hard to live by a group that fights all the time and has practices like cannibalism. You also have to remember how primitive they were compared to the Europeans, the natives hadn't even invented the wheel yet. And there were other groups back then who would have done much worse to the natives and were worse people.

      1. idk about the cameras in microwaves installed by obama one, therefore im not gonna say much else on that topic
      2. "the electons being "rigged by the Democrats" (until Trump won of course)
that one has flaws. first of all, in the wikileaks, hillary took the election from bernie. was it right? nope. she would've had the presidential elections too if it weren't for a woke populace and donald trump.
secondly, both parties are guilty of corruption on many fronts, the democratic party seems to be the most corrupt party recently.
      3. "Obama born in Kenya" yes, he was born in Kenya, and not hawaii like his trumped up birth certificate says, which has so many font changes, compared to others during the same timeframe, makes obamas look like a outright fake. at least malik obama produced something more creditable.

The only thing I would consider false in this, is that somewhat hilariously, the Local Natives thought the settling Pilgrims had decided to declare war, and as such charged in, ready for battle, only to find that their allies were just target shooting. And, as a sign of good faith brought the hunting prize. And on the first day or so it was primarily seafood like lobster. THAT is the only point of contention I would raise.

No, there is one story. It's written in first hand sources from Edward Winslow and William Bradford. There was another Thanksgiving Feast 16 years later to honor victory in the Pequot War (which climaxed with the Mystic Massacre) which people use to trick others into believing Thanksgiving celebrates genocide. But even that war was a war between Natives that the pilgrims simply got involved in, so to call it racist is completely logiphobic.

Case 2: Incorrect, native Americans did not have similar animals. Only South Americans had the llama and alpaca. Cows, goats and pigs where first introduced by the Spanish.
Europeans had lived often without them. Sometimes in their house. When the old and new world met, they had not built up resistance. The Europenas had died from these diseases a thousand years before in masses, the survivors had a resistance. You have Asian, polynesian, and Natives that still can not digest cows milk easily.

Read "Germs, Guns, and Steel". The book attempts to explain why Eurasian and North African civilizations have survived and conquered others, while arguing against the idea that Eurasian hegemony is due to any form of Eurasian intellectual, moral, or inherent genetic superiority. Diamond argues that the gaps in power and technology between human societies originate primarily in environmental differences, which are amplified by various positive feedback loops.

The most famous of genocides that was turned into a family-friendly holiday is obviously Thanksgiving. The day that we reserve for stuffing ourselves with our family around a lush tablesetting is a day that grew out of a truly horrific event in American history.
In 1637, after discovering the dead body of a white man, settlers armed themselves and set a Pequot village on fire. Anyone that managed to escape, including children, was systematically hunted down and killed. The name "Thanksgiving" allegedly comes from a speech that the governor of Bay Colony gave afterwards, referring to the day as: "A day of thanksgiving. Thanking God that [the settlers] had eliminated over 700 men, women, and children."

Friends, I just came home from visiting Foxwoods' Pequot Museum and in 1636 there was a Pequot war that killed at least 600 native Americans. Further, let me quote Brittanica:
"Pequot War, war fought in 1636-37 by the Pequot people against a coalition of English settlers from the Massachusetts Bay, Connecticut, and Saybrook colonies and their Native American allies (including the Narragansett and Mohegan) that eliminated the Pequot as an impediment to English colonization of southern New England. It was an especially brutal war and the first sustained conflict between Native Americans and Europeans in northeastern North America"
This war was a massacre. There were around 16,000 Pequots initially and by 1972 there were just 21!
Friends, I encourage you to do your own research and you will find out that true history is a lot different than the nice views we have learned growing up. Much different.

The following is what George Washington wrote about Thanksgiving.
I do not think he would recognize the United States as it is today.
And that is not a compliment.
"By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation."
"Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and-Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me 'to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:'"
"Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favor, able interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us."
"And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best."
"Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789."
    George Washington

Even though both my white Eruopean American Indian people had flight's , there was all well peace, but Thanksgiving is all about enjoying good food , being thankful for all you have, counting ya blessings and your family & friend's coming over giveing thanks to God and havein a good time regardless of the bad things that happened to the Indian's even though that is / was sad 🍁🍂🦃🌾🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅

AWSOME , some truth be told!!! Happy Thanksgiving for the day is in remembrance of that first Harmony! Also all we have too be thankful for. Even the pettiest of surfs have to acknowledge that by just being here in AMERICA is a greAt blessing and is enough to rejoice!!!😎🇺🇸👍❤️

Weird how this is where people have to go for the truth. As Ben Shapiro says, "you have to be college educated to be that stupid." And these people are teaching our kids....

    Hardships of the Pilgrims:
    • Ship mechanical failures
    • Deserters
    • Demoralization
    • Ship overcrowding
    • Bad ship smell
    • Storms
    • Navigational setbacks
    • Death at sea
    • Landing failures
    • Smallpox danger from prior settlers
    • Survival uncertainty
    • Starvation
    • Sickness
    • Semi-annihilation
    • Harsh winter weather
    • Loss of childbearing women
Remember in the movie "John Q.", Denzel Washington says, "I am not going to bury my son! My is going to bury me!"
The Pilgrims probably had many fathers who experienced the devastation of burying their sons.
