I love my bellville boots. I have 1 pair left in black that I currently still wear in retirement at my current job. They are one of the only boots that doesn't hurt my flat feet.
I got out of the Corps in '96, and still wear my standard issue Desert Storm boots regularly. Thirty years of use and best damn boots I've ever owned... They just don't make anything like that anymore.

But I had a look and it appears they are the McRae 4189 Men's Hot Weather Desert Tan Military Boots. They look identical to me, and it seems likely those are the ones. Danner Ft Lewis are by far my favorite boot. I still wear a pair now that I'm retired. For a desert boot I like the Belleville with the sand tread sole. Not because it's aggressive but because they provide so much extra cushion and are wicked comfortable.

Before every boot sole was cemented. Goodyear welted boots last forever because you can just replace the soles. Can't do that with cemented soles as easy.
Wow, pricing of what you should buy as enlisted has changed. 900 a month , probably less is what I made. Never went over 18 k as combat arms with volunteering to go to combat. That's pre tax btw. I slept on the dmz asking why the signs said to take your malaria pills and why we didn't get them we were told we weren't permanent station lol like the bugs know.

Footwear is basically the only place I don't mind spending a decent bit of money for quality. I can spend 30 bucks on a cheap pair of shoes that last me 2 months of being too narrow and unsupported, or I can dish out 180 for a nice pair of shoes that fit my big feet and remain comfortable and strong for 2 thousand miles of walking.
Dont skimp out on high end insoles aswell. I know plenty of guys with expensive boots with factory inserts. Try out diffrent socks ( like compression and support socks )and laces ( i get soft flat laces for a little bit more give) too for you guys that are willing to spend more.
I wore my steel toes all the time! I got them when I was an Engineer and just kept wearing them. It is the reason I wear my Irish Setter steel toe boots everywhere.
Never served. Doesn’t stop me from wearing the boots. Can’t beat the durability of them. One pair lasted me four years when I was hitchhiking through the states.
It’s probably frowned upon but I wear my younger brothers old boot camp issue style ones to work, but these have steel toes and I’m not ever trying to pretend I served. They just look better with jeans than half the other steel toes at Academy and Walmart
I bought a pair of Belleview boots when I was a PFC, three years ago. It was when I finally broke down and like you said, treated myself. My friends all said I was suffering unnecessarily. Anyways, I have ONLY worn this same pair of Belleviews for 3 years now. They are so beyond perfect to me. They’re apart of me. They have grown to me to form one single organism. I have replaced the laces, but that is it. They’re still in amazing shape. They’ve been squirted on by Mother Nature, completely engulfed in mud, used to put out fires, curb stomp rattlesnakes, and they’re still in perfect condition. They’ll last forever.
The NZ recon boots are interesting. Really comfortable but will snap your ankle under certain conditions. Really really comfortable. Don't like risk of injury for comfort.
My Oakley’s boots took a beating in Iraq. I wore them up until my discharge. They had burn marks and even a blood stain. Our butter bar who came to us after deployment told me to go get new boots and not to wear those again. They stayed on my feet for over 2 more years. I earned the condition of those boots and they weren’t going anywhere. I was medically discharged and my boots were in my storage unit along with 90% of my military stuff and was broken into and it was all stolen. When I realized the boots were gone I actually had to fight tears

With higher quality shoes that are made out of leather, suede or nubuck they get shaped to your foot with time. This is especially noticable with steel-toe boots, the best fitting pair is still gonna scrape for a while. I may add that in some „woke” universities having run down shoes is seen as a eco-friendly anti-materialistic statement.

I wore basic training boots all 12 months of my deployment in Iraq. Lightweight and breathable. Once you build up the calluses on the back of your feet and Achilles from getting eat up by friction they are the best lol

I was in prior to desert boots (1994-2000). I rocked the Corcoran Field 2 jump boots. Had those resoled 4 times. The leather on the side finally gave out 4 years ago. So, I bought a second pair. 25 years seems to be a decent boot life.

I wore tanker boots for 8 years. Of course they were also highly spit shined. I was wearing them, after getting out, while riding my motorcycle to work in the rain. They literally fell apart on my feet. Had call the Mrs to bring me some shoes and fresh socks. lol
Different branch, but the bootcamp "Super Boots" were actually super - not. Gave me neuropathy in both big toes after only two months in training -- immediately swapped them out for Bates composite toe for work, and Belleville ultralights for shore duty / inapections / quarters. The cheapest Bates lasted a couple years at sea until they started rotting and covered in oily waste, but easy to replace. Non-skid deck did a number on the soles, but you don't need sole-grip if the ship IS your grip. The Bellevilles, though -- in black leather -- lasted YEARS, and that parade black shine got them mirror-sheen. Even waterproofed them and used them for years in snow, rain, and flooded forest hiking. Belleville is the best boot I have ever worn, and I stand by that till I die.
I wish I had my dad’s old leather ones from the 90s/early 2000s. There was a very specific smell to those things. He finished his career in the reserves, and one Friday every month he’d pull all his stuff out, I’d iron his uniforms, and he would sit on the floor next to me polishing his boots. I even remember the old stained tube sock he kept his polish and brushes in. I miss my dad.
yeah too bad they only last like 20 miles. I went through 2 pairs in less than a year and switched to danners. I got a solid year out of them each time. but we rucked twice a week, if we were not in the field already rucking...for half of the year....every year....(ft Carson 11b)
I got my oakleys and they werr the best boot ive ever had. They were a model that I've never seen anyone else wearing but damn were they good. My unit had a ruck march every thursday and those boots were worth every single penny.
I wore the same issued boots from basic through deployment until I got out and my feet were fine. My wife was amazed at how soft my feet became “like baby skin.” I never needed mole skin either. Army infantry.
My dad tried to do the same, ended up going through 10ish pairs I think and now can barely walk his feet are so messed up. Oh and VA did surgery for him multiple times. And messed up, multiple times
I freaking forgot to pack mine after OSUT and left them with my training platoon... I just hope the next cycle is putting them to good use, either that or the DSs got those bad boys.
I literally just couldn’t fit any other boots so I was stuck with basic trainers, till my parents god bless their souls found a pair of belles that fit still got they to this day.
I wore my basic training boots through everything, EIB, Air Assault, Airborne, two deployments, finally wore a hole in the side and cracked the bottom right along the ball of the foot they wore so thin...Lotta memories in those boots, I still have them, along with my original dog tags, crossed rifles, smoking jacket and wooby
Oh please, those basic boots are so much nicer and more comfortable than the old black leather boots that came with the BDU and took forever to break in properly. Plus you don’t even have to shine them anymore.
I didn't get to try the Oakleys until after I got out, what a wonderful boot. They've been great for rucking, running, beach walks. Unbelievably dangerous on slick surfaces though!

Dude, I'm never going to see a desert while in uniform, I got issued one set of marching boots, leather, black. One set of winter boots, leather, black. One set of rubber boots, black. I was lucky my genetic lottery ticket fell out to make me fit my nations uniform system sizing system close enough to avoid chafing sores.
When the Reckonings first came out and were unavailable on Oki I was on a detachment to Camp Humphreys SK and since MARFOR-K is on Humphreys they had some Marine boots (because obviously USMC needs EGA on everything) and I snagged a pair right then and there.
The steel toe bellevilles we were required to have as engineers were the best friggin boots. Had one pair around for 3 years, after the tread was mostly gone I kept them around for yard work. Walked the soles clean off them.

With higher quality shoes that are made out of leather, suede or nubuck they get shaped to your foot with time. This is especially noticable with steel-toe boots, the best fitting pair is still gonna scrape for a while.
I may add that in some „woke” universities having run down shoes is seen as a eco-friendly anti-materialistic statement.

I wore basic training boots all 12 months of my deployment in Iraq. Lightweight and breathable. Once you build up the calluses on the back of your feet and Achilles from getting eat up by friction they are the best lol

I was in prior to desert boots (1994-2000). I rocked the Corcoran Field 2 jump boots. Had those resoled 4 times. The leather on the side finally gave out 4 years ago. So, I bought a second pair.
25 years seems to be a decent boot life.
I love my Corcoran's I have the Marauder's in coyote. They are the best boots I have ever worn.

but my boots was always ready in service to the community too, my boots abandoned me one day at the beach, there were a lot of people and while I was talking with some friends sitting outside the car several huge waves washed away the crowd on the beach, and to the confusion and alarm the people took their things wildly to flee from the water and someone mistakenly took my things including my towel, my radio, my shirt and my beloved boots, poor my boots, always loyal to my cause and perhaps even now surely serving faithful to its new owner, that was 10 years ago, long live to corcoran boots, cheers XD

Danners are amazing. I can be outside in a sleety wet winter storm and my feet are the only thing on my that are warm and dry.

Not military but I've worn US made Danner work boots for years. Expensive but fantastic boots.
I wore tanker boots for 8 years. Of course they were also highly spit shined. I was wearing them, after getting out, while riding my motorcycle to work in the rain. They literally fell apart on my feet. Had call the Mrs to bring me some shoes and fresh socks. lol
Different branch, but the bootcamp "Super Boots" were actually super - not. Gave me neuropathy in both big toes after only two months in training -- immediately swapped them out for Bates composite toe for work, and Belleville ultralights for shore duty / inapections / quarters.
The cheapest Bates lasted a couple years at sea until they started rotting and covered in oily waste, but easy to replace. Non-skid deck did a number on the soles, but you don't need sole-grip if the ship IS your grip.
The Bellevilles, though -- in black leather -- lasted YEARS, and that parade black shine got them mirror-sheen.
Even waterproofed them and used them for years in snow, rain, and flooded forest hiking.
Belleville is the best boot I have ever worn, and I stand by that till I die.

I wore Converse brand steel toes. They had a side zipper and C O M F O R T padding. Best boots i ever wore, still to this day!
I wish I had my dad’s old leather ones from the 90s/early 2000s. There was a very specific smell to those things. He finished his career in the reserves, and one Friday every month he’d pull all his stuff out, I’d iron his uniforms, and he would sit on the floor next to me polishing his boots. I even remember the old stained tube sock he kept his polish and brushes in. I miss my dad.
When you grow up somewhere with an aggressive amount of snow and ice, no amount of tread is too much.

I got my oakleys and they werr the best boot ive ever had. They were a model that I've never seen anyone else wearing but damn were they good. My unit had a ruck march every thursday and those boots were worth every single penny.

I wore the same issued boots from basic through deployment until I got out and my feet were fine. My wife was amazed at how soft my feet became “like baby skin.” I never needed mole skin either. Army infantry.
Everybody’s feet are different. What doesn’t work for some will work for you, etc.
My dad tried to do the same, ended up going through 10ish pairs I think and now can barely walk his feet are so messed up. Oh and VA did surgery for him multiple times. And messed up, multiple times

When the Reckonings first came out and were unavailable on Oki I was on a detachment to Camp Humphreys SK and since MARFOR-K is on Humphreys they had some Marine boots (because obviously USMC needs EGA on everything) and I snagged a pair right then and there.
The steel toe bellevilles we were required to have as engineers were the best friggin boots. Had one pair around for 3 years, after the tread was mostly gone I kept them around for yard work. Walked the soles clean off them.
Imagine several Delta operatives wearing Belleville boots for a DA raid in rough terrain while its raining at night in 2024
