    I really like playing the HRE defensively. I hear people say that the faction isn't as good as others, particularly early on, but I think with the right strategy and micro they can be an absolute powerhouse later on in the game. It requires very good micro with the Prelates and personally I like moving the relics around to switch between extra gold generation and keeps for defense.
    They are great in 3v3 and 4v4 games with friends, because your gold generation can really help carry your allies, while they can protect you in the early stages of the game. Don't forget you can also win games by building and protecting wonders, and defensively the HRE is one of the best civs in the game to defend your wonder. It's also relatively easy to get the resources necessary to construct your wonder because of the copious amounts of gold with which you can buy the other resources from the market.
    It might require slightly different strategies and tactics than other civs, but they are certainly not as weak as some people say they are.

      I would say they are better offensively in castle age. Their building are good but their only win condition is gold starving the enemy thanks to the relic landmark. Its better to strike in castle age when your man at arms can counter knights, your gold aco is good and when an enemy like rus or china dont unlock power units in imperial age.
      Hre also has a super tc in imperal age. It encourages a bloody castle age.

    I absolutely love the HRE, they’ve been my main civ since launch! At first I just liked their aesthetic, but their defensive buffs really fit my play style and now I’ve nailed down a really solid build order and have gotten really good with them. One match I ended up with 40,000 gold lol they can really boom economically with relics and prelates

      I know they’re not as good as the French or Rus, but I think a case can be made that they’re the best civ for going for wonder victories, and I’d also say they’re S tier along with French on water maps

    • @Coach_Blu
      @Coach_Blu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the 2nd age landmarks, I agree that Aachen chapel is a better route most of the time, BUT, there’s a very effective HRE 2nd age rush strategy that works well with the Meinwerk place. Unless you’re playing against the English (because their man at arms can match yours in the second age), you can build up a small army of men at arms and research the build siege equipment and faster movement speed from the Meinwerk place to rush the enemy. Build a small army of men at arms, put them just outside the enemy base and then build some rams. Boom, game over

    Really wish the devs would change the default AI line-up for prelates/healers (Infantry not mounted). Prelates demanding they run to the front lines when battle starts is silly. aoe4 doesnt have great hot key set-ups for groups. Healers start to become micro heavy. Forced to click them, ctrl-lmb or make a secondary group just for them.
    ^^^Unnecessary micro. This problem shouldnt exist. By default: Should stay in the rear.^^^

      I would of liked to see a little more diversity in the civilizations that were chosen. The Abbasids were a good choice for the middle eastern, Islamic flavor. I would have gone with Persia instead of the Delhi Sultanate....could still use all the same units. I also think the English and French are too close together. They could have just gone with one or the other. HRE was a great pick. I would have loved to see some different civs from other parts of the globe with more unique units. I guess placing a game in a limited historical time span condenses the actual civs available.

    I think hre isnt defined by defense. They have a lot of building bonuses but they are only added utility, not a wincon. Hre lacks the power units/techs for lategame, they can only gold starve enemy as far as I see. I think they should go offensive in castle age. Their gold eco is good and their faster man at arms counter knights which is really strong in castle age. Toss in horsemen to raid enemy, or kill crossbowmen, springalds to protect man at arms. Hre has a super tc in imperial age, which also means you should strike in castle age I think. Bonuses for keeps and towers mostly overlap with their landmarks but they can make a strong supportive civ in tg. Teammates can let hre get additional relics and relic buff to keeps seems really strong.

    OK ok heres what I got to criticize:
    You pronounce Lands-knecht as Land-schneckt which looks and Sounds like "land-snail" lmao

  • @bobxbaker
    @bobxbaker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i'm not so sure you want landsknecht in your main army exactly, they are costly and they can't deal with ranged enemies directly and if you use them in the middle of the fight where everything is gonna come crashing down it's more likely the landsknecht will just die before getting any real worth out of them, i think it's better to use them as a clean up crew or shock troops, because landsknecht are faster on foot than MAA, and is just as quick on foot as pikemen but deals a lot more damage in general than both so they generally work better in smaller skirmishes i think.
    so either it's when both ranged and mangonells are dead or use them in a different manner.
    sneaking a couple of landsknecht in to kill workers is really good for example, or making a ram and put some in it and then when the melée troops come to attack it up close you jump out and swipe them with the landsknecht.
    essentially treat them as specialized shock troop mercenaries.
    the enemy won't know what hit them until it's too late.

  • @jshadowhunter
    @jshadowhunter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Landsknecht is the worst unique unit in the game.
    Not only because they're pathetically weak, but they're also NOT "historically accurate".
    Landsknechts were supposed to be THE BEST infantry in HRE, being able to go up against knights, they did use two-handed swords, but they also used polearms and guns.
    And the devs made them into "glass cannons" that are made of paper.
    I know there are people saying "You need to mix them up with other infantry to be effective!" but that hardly matters when they're standing in front lanes so that archers are able to pick them off before they reach them, and Men-at-arms aren't able to soak off the damage as result.
    If they want to do justice to the Landsknechts, they need either HP or armor buff (or both), and they should have an "on-demand" mechanic, where they're able to switch between weapons depending on the situation (as in, keep two-handers for aoe, have polearms to counter cavalry, and firearms to country heavy armor units).
    Also, prelates need to do more, and bringing them to buff military units just isn't working because of how quickly the buff falls off. Rus have Warrior Monks who synergize well with combat units, so prelates need an upgrade; like for example, if they hold a relic they passively buff everybody around them.
    Then again HRE as a whole needs some overhaul, and I fear we may not be getting it until we get campaigns for the remaining 4 civs.

      HRE sucks until you get a Wololo conversion. I've been watching games and if someone pulls of one successfully and then pushes the advantage they win. It takes micro and planning, with good multitasking to get the majority of relics before your opponent. The Landschnekt needs care when using and are so weak people are putting them in rams to protect them as they get to the front lines to use them effectively, another reason why they're so hard to play well. Their economy is also very weak if you can't get relics and don't have trade bonuses to offset that.
      People also aren't garrisoning excess relics in front keeps for the damage as well which even I didn't know about.

    • @danielbalder
