I live in Bangladesh. My 7 year old son learns taekwondo. For him, I had to suffer a lot while watching various videos related to this. This is the first time I saw a video and felt peace. Please don't stop giving videos☺️☺️
Today is 7th of November Thursday 2024. As you can see I have an exam for Poomsae on Saturday i.e, 9th of November and I only knew up to 10 steps. But now I know all of them (18 steps) This video helps alot! Tysm Shawn!!!
Thank you so much! I just started Taekwondo with my sons and we learned Poomsae 1 today. I really appreciate how you broke this down and I can't wait to show your video to my boys so we can practice together. Have a wonderful day!! 😊
I live in Paris, and I just start... first time last week that I practised Pomsee at the sportclub. I was totaly lost with coordination! Thanks a lot for those explanations, it helps A LOT. All advices are really interesting, and help to understand how to consider Taekwondo. I was judoka when I was young, and thanks to your video I understand how to start again :)
Thank you. Im 42 and I've started taekwondo training in September 2023 together with my two daughters. 1 June we have the belt test, my daughters are very good but me, im behind a lot with poomsae. This is very educational. Thanks again.
Oaau... Thank you for the reply, my daughters are fine they already mock me because they've got the yellow belt , but me as expected I have to reexam. (because of Poomsae) Thank you for your consideration and time. It means lots to us.
Thank you for this! My 2 daughters started taekwondo a few months ago, and it's a family class, so I joined in a few weeks back. I find your videos so useful! I practice daily during my breaks at work, Thank you again!
Have been trying to learn this for a few weeks. Best video I’ve watched and almost got it. Love the explanations and it just works well with my mind. Will definitely be recommending this 😊. Thank you
Love your videos! Like you mention, I find it a bit easier to focus exclusively on learning the moves without power at first, then adding power once they're memorized
Thank you so much master you give me inspiration not to give up my taekwondo class journey . While iam watching your video make me more inspired and your so joyful to watch not like other videos that I watch in you tube very serious to teach 😅
Hi Shawn, I want to thank you and congratulate you for this amazing deep level of content and commitment. I’m navigating through the content and it’s really helpful and super easy to follow. I have a long life history with Taekwondo and after 20+ years I decided to comeback. When I left I was about to get the black Belt, but unfortunately didn’t have a chance. Now you are helping me to comeback to it and get ready to jump back in officially again :) Thanks for the hard work and love! maeu gamsahabnida 매우 감사합니다
I started in summer 2023 and am now a yellow tag (our gradeings are every 3 months or so) so I am practicing this I know it's Korean name it's"Til Jang" and I got with my friend it's every Tuesday night and saterday morning thank you for this video helped lots :)))))))))
Shawn, I love you so much! Your Videos are so helpful to me! In 4 weeks I‘ll do my Green Belt Test and I‘m practicing every day the Poomsaes with you! Thank you so much ❤ btw: can you do self-defense Videos? This is also Part of my test 😵💫🙈 just the best for you from Göppingen, near Stuttgart (Germany) 🫶
Thank you so much sir, I have my belt promotion test tomorrow and I really needed some practice, I will surely edit this comment tomorrow to give you the good news! Edit: you know I got it!!! Thank you sm for your lessons they really helped
Great video! Question: Is there a difference in the poomsae patterns between WT and ITF? Also which one are you practicing? I just started training taekwondo again after 27 years and I need to freshen up on my poomsaes.
Yes it is massive differences. Sean here are in WT system. You can see that on the black V shape round his neck. The systems in general are very different. Its very little that is the same in ITF
Thank you @rhedman for the compliment! As @grandmasteryoda9893 said I am with WT. There are more differences than similarities I think! The creator of ITF was also one of the founding 9 kwans (masters) of the taekwondo we use in WT. I would say it doesn’t matter which kind you train, just train taekwondo! :)
Thanks for your reply Shawn! I'm also practicing WT so now I know I can use your poomsae videos for practice which is great! :) Thanks again!@@taekwondoshawn
It depends! In poomsae competitions the arm is straight and locked. In older styles of taekwondo or ‘practical’ taekwondo the elbow would be slightly bent to avoid injury during an impact. Honestly you’re not supposed to block with the elbow part, it’s more of a forearm block-but better safe than sorry👍🏻
Sir i wanna ask something my uncle taekwando our downward block starts from head his downward block dont chamber near the neck it goes in crescent motion from head towards below is this some kind of advance blocking ?
Great question! Depending on the master and the style of Taekwondo, the block can start as high as the ear! Both are good, it just depends on what is most comfortable for you.
Hi thank you for this. I recently started Taekwondo, and the style is WT(F). Are there differences in the Poomsaes depending on WT(F) or ITF styles? Thanks again!
I Was Practcing This And Injured My Arm So Badly😞, Sir Shawn I Can't Walk Or Run I Have A Random Moving Motion Can You Give Me Any Tips For The Motion For Walking In The Pomsae So Its Easier To Learn Please🥺
Be careful while practicing, we shouldn’t be getting injured! I can’t give medical advice, but I can tell you a grand master told me that practicing walking/transitioning from stance to stance every day for at least an hour helped him immensely-I’m trying it out now!

What style of TKD is this? It seems that there are many different variations of the same poomsae (Taegeuk Il Jang) even within the same Kwan.

can I ask smth
when doing low block,do you lock tbe elbow or do you keep the arm bent?
thx for your time

Hi Shawn,
For Taegeuk 1, it seems like it's not technically possible to get to the same place you started....
Do you think so?
Yes absolutely. No matter how you do it the stances don’t line up.
But we still try!😂
Is the answer yes or no? I see it is yes:)
I can’t get back to the same spot when I do the pattern correctly!
@@taekwondoshawn Thanks a lot dear Shawn. Godd luck:)
Please say also Korean names for each forms, pomsea . Thanks 🙏
This is very good
Hi thank you for this. I recently started Taekwondo, and the style is WT(F). Are there differences in the Poomsaes depending on WT(F) or ITF styles? Thanks again!
Yes WT and ITF have completely separate patterns!
