Doesn't seem to be the case here, Reedy products so may finally be able to spend money on other optional upgrades. Doesn't seem like it needs much if anything for performance improvements. The box, so cool.

Much nicer in the flesh than the stills made it look, especially the color. Still would toss the bumpers IMMEDIATELY! The headlight decals need to be replaced ASAP with frosted lenses, and the leading and trailing edges of the fenders need a trim. Some body graphics would perk it up immensely. Really like their inclusion of extra parts and releasing upgrade parts with the truck - saw special "Hard" plastic versions of certain parts (such as shock towers) and titanium and (blech) blue aluminum hardware on the Associated website. Good job, guys. (and Thanks, Harley!)

@@oldsjunkie1 well for one it has much better electronics out of the box, overdrive trans, and in general it looks like a much better, well though out design. And they didn't throw poorly designed portal axles on it just to be on the bandwagon. Associated is known for quality, Redcat is not.
@@TangoOne Seem like standard mass used Reedy electrics they put in everything besides the motor, which isn't special, just a different Arm. Overdrive trans will prove to be a gimmick like it has with OD axles. Have you broken your Redcat portals? I keep hearing this, but haven't experienced it in either of the rigs I run hard near daily with them, or the multiple other trucks I run with. Mid-motor, odd battery tray design, odd looking unlicensed body. Seems to be right in line with the offerings from everyone at this price point. Nothing spectacular, nothing terrible. Since a company, an American company who is now headed by Axial's former VP mind you, isn't "known" for quality, but Thunder Tiger, err Associated is, things can't change? LOL
Mmm, while i think the truck is pretty neat and at a good price point there isn't much it has over it. The gen8 has a few things over this as well. That said there isnt anything that stands out far above the redcat. Biggest thing to me was the ability to change up the front over drive percentage. I have a gen 8, there isnt much to one up it solidly. Both rocking licensed tires, element has the wheels too. Redcat has the licensed body. Portals and a more frontward orientation for more weight on the front axle. Electronics seem about on par. Not sure if this guy is 3s rated but the redcat definitely is. Both have the ability for a winch setup, element is more user friendly to set up it seems. While the cat doesn't have LEDs out the box its setup to take 16, 5mm bulbs which I've done to mine. Redcat comes with a legit spare tire and wheel too.Dont think the element comes with the shorty pack since he said associated sent him that so thats marked out. Could go on and on but at the end of it, for the 50 buck difference theres not enough to go "ooo that ones the much better deal" more or less whatever you take liking to more. All that said, i like this new truck. I think it'll do halfway decent. Maybe even throw a curve ball in the 300 to 400 dollar crawler range. Had i not just bought into and built up the new axial umg kit i would be nose deep in this guy most likely. I will be watching more stuff on this guy for sure
@@oldsjunkie1 havent broken my portals either. Run 3s 90% of the time. Speed bash around with it when my shepherd's with me cause she likes to chase it. Hop it over stuff, even threw a 20t pinion for a bit to stress out the electronics some. Took it fine. I browned out the stock servo. Thats all. Heavier links, LEDS with an extra 450mah 2s lipo running them, weighted beadlocks with added on sticky weights for more mass. Added close to a pound and a half. Lot of it on the wheels 😬 still no busted portals 👌

A over drive option seems pretty cool. But it does seem odd that you can have over drive or doubled over drive with no inclusion of the equal drive gears I would think it a bit smarter to include one over drive and a equal drive gear set
a little confused why this wouldn't have dropped under the Associated brand... Seems like it would have been a gauraunteed hit. Looks pretty promising anyway
As a fan of your channel and an owner of this kit, Builders kit version, I felt you under sold some of the details. I feel if this was a Vanquish kit you would have been gushing over some of the details that make it a great but and very capable crawler..... Out of the box. Just my .02
Associated's first two attempts into the RC Crawler/Scaler market, were complete DUDS, merely rebrands and shockingly overpriced... The built-in Scale Garage is a nice Plus! It really seems like they did their homework and extra credit on this one! 👏👏👏😎 *NOW* with the latest crop of capable, attractive Rigs out lately... *In the $300-340 price range...* WHAT are they going to try to get for this?? 😲 Frankly, my only disappointment are the Body Posts!! 😖 No inner Wheelwells? Maybe. No Interior? OK, we can work with that. But BODY POSTS through the Body?? They missed a point. Carmine 🚂🚙

Definitely going to bring some competition to Axial , Traxxas , and the others. 5 speed trans and dual servo setup is sweet.

It looks to be a very promising rig. What is your thoughts on the step up in the frame rails? it looks to be a lot deeper than normal.
Can you disassemble the gearbox? From the diagrams it looks completely unique.

Yes, it is 3s compatible. It also has two 6-volt servo style output leads on the ESC for lights and/or accessories.
