    I know this video is a year old but as a streaming n00b I found it very informative. I just built a rig which is less than half the budget of that one and it's based on a ATEM mini pro iso. What you've got here would probably be my version 2. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your content.

    Great video - thanks for sharing! One suggestion: hook and loop (like Velcro) instead of zip ties. It makes it easier for adjustments in the future and saves your hands when you brush against them. I look forward to future videos like this!

      I get it in someways, but also typically I am feeding zip ties through little holes to be able to tie something down, also i wouldnt trust cable stress management on zip ties on a portable item.. I personally prefer the zip ties as I know its not going anywhere :)

    Great Job Ryan. Very neat and tidy but there were a couple of things I didn't understand. First was why you used the Ultra Studio for lower thirds when the Extreme can do this on its own. The other was why you used Ras Pis to drive the Stream Decks instead of running Companion on your laptop and just connecting them all to the USB hub you already had installed. A word of caution with the Behringer. Always use the seperate router you have installed in the box rather than the integral one in the Behringer. They don't cope well when there are a few hundred devices in close proximity with the wifi on like you might get at a large conference or in the audience of a school play. Well done

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions! Few reasons, the ultra studio is a super handy tool for getting true key and fill into the switcher from anywhere, I use it to get lower third animations in and such through obs which is super awesome, the raspberry pi was the best thing I did, it means that it’s always setup and ready to go regardless of what computer is plugged in to the system. Also for redundancy, If the computer dies the show can still go on. And yes not using the wifi on the behringer, using the wifi router to do that :) thanks for watching!

      Thanks! Interesting idea.. I think the difficult part is everyone would have a different requirement and usecase. Even if I was to do a detailed video i would certainly miss things as there are constantly things that I do on the fly because of unforseen issues etc. So if I was to put in that much effort it would be difficult to be perfect.. This is one big reason I do consulting, not just for the money but it means that I can tailor the design to an individuals actual need... I do videos like these to hopefully inspire people of whats possible rather than instructional which is hard in a one way video.. hope that makes sense!

    one advice : you can use instead of a mackook (pro or air) a mac mini. It allows to use much less thunderbolt cables and adapters (it has natively 2 thunderbolt, a separate power output, a RJ45 port, classic USB 3 and 2 HDMI out). The only downside is to have a monitor for it. But I find so much easier to have all these ports without using a single adapter. And last but not least : you can rack it !

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did think about doing that, but it meant that i had a computer perminantly stuck inside the rack which i dont use all the time, and the laptop i can use for other things wherever i need. The thunderbolt solution has been amazing as i can just drop in any laptop (with thunderbolt) or desktop and its ready to go depending on the needs of the production

    • @FallenStarFeatures
      @FallenStarFeatures 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I racked a Mac Mini with 4x Thunderbolt 3 ports along with an 8-port Ethernet switch to control a BMD TV Studio HD switcher. It works well as a built-in BMD SW controller and video server. However, you need to set it up to auto-boot after AC power shut off and remember not to use the Apple-menu Shutdown option. Reason being, software shutdown will force you to use the hardware button on the corner of the case to restart, which is hard to access after it's rack mounted. As with all Macs, the HDMI output imposes HDCP encryption on all video signals, which is incomptible with BMD HDMI inputs, so you need a box to bypass that as well.

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically the AC power comes in, all of the AC connectors are joined together, then split off to the 12v and 5v power supplies, essentially I either cut off the mini power supplies from the cables and soldered them together before screwing them into the dc power supplies, nothing really special in terms of wiring, just wired together depending on the power requirements

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would need a bigger one for sure.. but you fall into issues of long cable run voltage loss.. so I would do 12v for the atem and the highest possible voltage for the cameras, (might be 20v but definitely check that first!!) so by the time it reaches the camera there is enough power.. might need to do a psu per camera potentially

    The only issue what I personally have with this setup is, that ATEM Mini (correct me if I'm wrong) doesn't support video syncing of video inputs (by frames/ms). Normally it would be not issue as I have professional video cameras various quality but me as a smaller streamer I have to work with different people on different projects who can bring their own cameras, DSLRs or on some events GoPros (of course not as main cameras :D) - and in that situation I have an issue with video synchronization. That's why I chose to go with a bit more expensive way but way more universal to customer needs - NDI & DANTE (transfer video & audio over ethernet). :)

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ATEM mini series does actually scale all inputs which is an awesome feature, so regardless of your framerate or resolutoin (not 4k though) the atem will scale it to the project, obviously keeping it the same is ideal but its nice that it does work! just tested 720 and 1080 and they both work straight away. :)

    • @BuriTechVids
      @BuriTechVids 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RyanSomerfield But i was talking about desynchronization. All professional video cameras are in sync but when I connect to ATEM like DSLR, GoPro or wireless video transmitter, there is 4-7 frames latency and I can't align it on ATEM (correct me if I'm wrong). :) Of course I always match framerate & resolution on all devices. :)

    • @BuriTechVids
      @BuriTechVids 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RyanSomerfield We're using vMix & BirdDog Mini HDMI->NDI converters (Full NDI; or BMD SDI Mini Converters if we need it). I have rack with digital mixer Soundcraft UI24R & 24 port ethernet 10 Gbps switch where I have DANTE converters (for MASTER & MONITOR channels), so I can put my rack anywhere in the venue and I need only single ethernet to get video, audio, intercom & internet to vMix. :) Here is small preview of my workflow & rack if you're interested th-cam.com/video/p52Lie-T1DQ/w-d-xo.html :)
      I'm glad that I invested to NDI. At the beginning it was very frustrating. Even as a programmer & networking guy it was kinda unstable (mainly when you have cheaper gear) but now it's very universal. vMix has 4 video outputs (and kinda can do more) and this makes a hugh space for options & creativity. Mainly when your customer wants different sound & video mix in venue and different to Zoom & TH-cam..

    • @Overboard111
      @Overboard111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure that all Atem switchers are supposed to support input syncing. The original 4 input Atem Minis had a Texas Instruments TDMS171 receiver chip on input 1 and Analog Devices ADV7610 chips on the other 3 inputs. The main difference between these chips is that the TI chip has a 4 channel retimer that provides sync timing to all 4 inputs. Another unintended difference is that the TI chip has greater input sensitivity and consequently works with longer camera cables on that port. I haven't ripped the lid off an Atem Mini Extreme yet but my experiments have determined that both inputs 1 and 2 are more sensitive than the rest so I expect they both run the TI chips and provide sync timing to the rest. This retimer only provides frame rate syncing to reduce dropped frames and can do nothing to fix lag caused by slow cameras or converters.

      @@wardogdauwdd3020 I need to do more research on this but I am loving the flexibility of the behringer in terms of auxes and routing etc, rodecaster is good for simple things but very quickly run into limitations. For what I do it doesn’t have enough for me

    As I plan on doing live stream for the first time and currently looking for a setup this video is too complicated. Wish this guy could take things slower and explain how each device is connected and show the cabling and explain it a bit more. It's just a waste of time watching it otherwise imho. Thanks for the video anyways
