    "You are not only there to TAKE photos. You are there to MAKE photos."
    That quote really gives a deep meaning to event photography. Thanks for the advice, you really got experience to teach.

    My primary focus for the past 10 years has been videography. I clicked on this vid hoping to learn more about lighting for event photography. I was surprised to learn some better lessons about making photos as opposed to taking photos. Good stuff. Thanks.

    📝Notes:
    1. Make moments happen
    2. Include context (beginners zoom in)
    ↳ Frame 2 people on each side
    ↳ People have cool outfits, so include all of that!
    3. If someone notices you taking a candid, don't be a creep lol, give a smile/nod/thumbs up
    4. If asking permission to take photos, don't take "no" personally
    5. Don't spend too much time on just one person
    ↳ Ask who are the VIPs, ask for their photos/facebook

    A beginner with a couple of days to my first event, a bit nervous, feel like I don't have the right equipment. Only have a kit lens and a 50mm, mostly shoot portraits and I'm super nervous

    • @JesseDeyoung
      @JesseDeyoung  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      That’s all you need for gear! Being nervous is normal. I still get nervous before events and I’ve shot hundreds of events. Try not to overthink it. I know that’s easier said than done:)

    Any advice for lense we should use? What's the focal range and the aperture? Like, say..a birthday party or dinner party.

    • @JesseDeyoung
      @JesseDeyoung  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have another video on events that covers that. But I like 24-50mm range for birthday or dinner party’s. Primes if you’re not going to use an on camera flash. If you’re using a kit lens definitely use an on camera flash.

    • @piaku3920
      @piaku3920 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JesseDeyoung Idk that KIT can be still useful for these kind of event because the larger aperture is only f4. Do you think photograph people in the party need to be with bokeh background?

    I am used to shooting landscapes, wildlife, an occasional sporting event, but I have never done a party/meeting type event. This is probably tangential to your video, but is there any guideline as to charging for event either at a meeting/party, or dinner event? Thanks!

    • @JesseDeyoung
      @JesseDeyoung  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question! I would do a quick google search to see what others are charging in your area and stay around that range. One thing to consider is that 1 hr of coverage for an event takes 2-4 hrs to process plus drive time to and from. I know times vary depending on workflow:) I hope this helps

    There are people who use a prime lenses to take event photos - during the event fumbling with changing of lens (probably missed many moments), cannot move freely and take photos freely limited by the zoom ranges and perspectives. Sure prime lenses are good but it won't matter if that guy is going to overprocess the photos until at resolution of 1200 x 900 can tell it looks grainy. At such a small resolution zoom lenses and prime lenses quality makes no difference. Also who the hell said that in event photography you cannot cut the limbs and head? Probably he mixed up rules used in portrait photography with event photography. He also don't have a cam with tilting LCD screen. SO all his overhead shots comes with very big headroom because he just cannot frame a shot that has an angle greater that his point of view.

    I've made photos for a party and I was baffled about how many women cheat their boyfriends/husbands! They were all asking me to not photo them or publish their fotos on the media (they also told me why!)! I had to remember those women, make a list and not deliver them to the client!
    NOTE: no man asked me this kind of stuff and the majority of women were drunk, while men not.
