Omar, I've been photographing for 12y now, You are the first person to teach me how to use a flash. And in 5 minutes! Where were You 12y ago I am asking!? Where!?
I can't tell you how many tutorials I've went through trying to learn the basics of flash (and having to just learn in on the fly by doing it). And always you're left feeling confused and not sure how to use it in practical applications. But this video is so simple and straightforward. It's excellent. Seriously. I've learned more in five minutes than I have done in probably hours and hours of flash videos.
Thanks to you I killled my first event just watching this video over and over again. I was sweating at first because it was a mansion party high ceilings and different lighting situations but I went to the restroom took a deep breath came back and started killing it thanks to you brother Omar. I appreciate you teaching me this it will always stick
bro, i am this position now, i got my first event job, i dont have flash going to buy today and repeating this video to learn, i am so nervous, so scared of failure '' i was sweating'' imagine, i have this problem every time when i am nervous but i think if we want to learn, we need to put ourselves in fire
@@BogdanBogdan28 No matter how many times I get a little nervous then I just shut my brain off take a deep breath and remember the steps to get the job done:) Goodluck buddy you got this just don’t over expose I rather underexpose some pictures you can bring them up in post editing.
@@BogdanBogdan28 No matter how many times I get a little nervous then I just shut my brain off take a deep breath and remember the steps to get the job done:) Goodluck buddy you got this just don’t over expose I rather underexpose some pictures you can bring them up in post editing.
No one and I repeat no one in all the YT tutorials had a tutorial explaining about using a flash during an event like you no one, what a content man, and thaaaaaanks.
yeah but it also redners his tutorial to be a bit impractical. I'm shooting candids at an event, there are no second chances, so should I be using ttl after all?
@@mandysteinback7387 I guess that would depend on how much experience you have, at the events I shoot im taking candid photos and adjusting the light manually depending on room changes and distance the subject is (I love candid shots with a 200mm across the room 👌), shoot and check the image after every couple of shots - also in a 3 hour event im taking 2000+ images and only 200 or so come out great quality, so keep that in mind
I've literally watched hours of videos on flash and in barely over 5 minutes you somehow got me to completely understand it. Unreal, thank you so much for this.
For what ever reason flash seems to be the most mysterious thing you can do with your camera. During lockdown it has been my goal to “master” the speed light. I’m still working on it but it’s been well worth the effort so jump in the water and give it a shot. Omar makes it easy to get started with videos like this!
My wife and I have been wedding photographers for years.. and man this is the style I strive for and just never can get it. Thank you so much! I watch this video often
After watching 7 videos about flash for beginners, this was the first one that made any real sense. You dumbed it down in the right way and explained the exact things I needed.
Omar, I didn’t take you for a TTL hater before this. Discussion of setting exposure for the background was probably the best I’ve seen. Then, you go through extensive trials to get the exposure for the central person. TTL does that automatically, almost every time, nothing is perfect, not even manual flash adjustment. Slow shutter speeds can allow motion blur to affect the central person. If you want that, great. Else, use a speed near the flash sync speed. This might be especially important at a significant event like a wedding. I wish I had remembered that recently.
I just spent hours trying to understand flash and literally thought I had a faulty flash. I can’t believe 5 minutes of your video made me understand what I didn’t in all the other videos!
I need you to teach me MORE in just 5 min! I feel like maybe 55 min more and finally ALL of my open questions will be answered, because your answeres are so simple and helpful! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
My god, do you know how much I really need this tutorial? All other tutorial I watch sometimes only speaks but never shows and some even too complicated. Bless you man
I find TTL useful, skips the dimming/adjusting part of it. You basically just have to work on your shutter speed according to ambient and let the flash work the distance to the subjects and adjust its power. Most time works well. I live around 800 ISO, F4.0, usually 1/60 is a good shutter to capture the ambient light and still freeze the subject.
I know this is an "old video" but man is so simple and straightforward. The basic of it and how to actually apply it, I LOVE IT!! As a new photographer I got dragged to shoot an event on the very last second and didn't really knew how to use the flash. This video definitely put me on a better spot, thank you!!
This is the most helpful video I found on TH-cam for using flashlight as a beginner. Been surfing the internet to look for tutorials on how to use external flashlights either with a trigger or on camera, and this video is the one that gets you started! Thanks a lot!
So far this is the only video that has helped me do the right settings with my camera and flash. Trust me, I have watched so many of them and none helped as much as this one did. Thanks a ton for your contribution to the photographer community
Seriously??? I have watched endless amounts of videos i have bought courses. And you post this video and in 5 mins teach me exactly how to work my flash. Thank you
Thank you for getting straight to the point, and showing how to do this efficiently and effectively. Such a relief compared to other tutorials out there that over complicate things and waste time on unrelated banter.
I add my comment just to underline how your video is simple yet complete about the topic. Sadly now youtuber tend to spend half video advertizing their channel, tutorial, preset, bla bla bla. Congratulantions for your style in communicating technical points.
Yo man! You just saved me... I'm an amateur photographer and I got a gig last weekend for a night party... All the tutorials I saw did nothing... I actually watched this in the washroom on the job... 😂😂😂 Yes on the job! Big save man... Thanks so much ❤❤❤
This is the BEST video on flash ever! I'm shooting an evening party tomorrow night, with my camera I've had for about 2 weeks, and this moved me away from "square 1"! Thank you so much.
Thanks very much. Because of this video, I had the courage to shoot an entire event last night on manual and it turned out great. I really appreciate your help for me to make the leap.
The best flash tutorial EVER!!...i📸. I've been searching for years to find a simplified, clear solution on how to use a flash . Now it all makes sense, there will be no more anxiety before i do an event🤗. Thank you kindly🥰

Thanks to this video I am no longer afraid to book wedding events as a photographer (I was afraid to ruin the evening parts of the event due to lack of proper use of flash). Thank you !!
Thanks a lot for the beginning tip you said, Camera exposure for background and Flash exposure for subject. This sentence was a way more worthier than the full content. Thanks a lot bro..... 💖💖💖
daaaammnnnnn... great and most useful tutorial ever for a beginner like me. I've watched thousands of tutorials, this is straightforward and easy to understand. good work Omar
Hey Omar ! You have explained use of Flash for the Event Photography in perhaps the most simple & clear way. Big Thanks for that ! I am a beginner & I will certainly try to do it the way you have taught.
Wow this was most helpful thank u so much. Was never taught that the flash only controls lighting of the subject while camera controls the rest. This really helps me with my setting up and also prioritizing what to adjust per shot. So much simpler now!
this tutorial is spot on, I'm new to photography and I have been struggling to take pictures at the nightclub my wife own. I'm gonna use this tutorial, God bless you sir
Finally, a simple and coherent explanation on how the flash works as a concept. I've always been avoiding flash because I didn't understand the big picture: camera for background exposure and flash compensation for subject. Everything else is built on that. Thank you so much! Teachers like you is the reason I'm good at math. 😂 You can learn rules and formulas all you want - you will be lost until somebody explains the big picture that organizes it all.
I’ve literally watched countless flash tutorials and nothing was as simple and easy as this one. Everyone else made it so confusing. This just literally gave me exactly what I needed in 5 minutes 😂 thank you!! So simply put and helpful
Thank you very much! This is right up my skill level as an enthusiast, never thought about the ambient vs. subject exposure through the different inputs. I will try a shoot without TTL once there are other people to meet again.
I just used my external flash for the first time and I just came on TH-cam to search for how to use the flash for events but this video was already on my feed before I got to search .Must be fate 🥺❤️
Thanks Omar! Gotta love that dimmer switch😊 I shoot solo and entirely in manual. Multiple camera bodies preset within a safe exposure range means fewer buttons and dials to mess with👍
I wish you talked more about the direction of the flash - as yours wasn't facing AT the subject. How do you know where to bounce the light when at an event? Otherwise super helpful tools!!
Wow. This video was so helpful, I could cry. The previous videos I was watching were WAY too technical, totally over my head. I was starting to doubt I would be able to figure out my new flash by the wedding I’m photographing in a few weeks. You made it super simple, thank you so much.

Dude I've been searching for a video that explains how to balance your camera and speedlite, this is Gold i'll watch this everyday to get this on my mind
This is now probably, the single most useful on camera flash photography video ever made.
I agree. And the best, no bullshit.
Your camera takes care of the ambience and the flash takes care of the subject. It's so simple yet now I finally get it lol

That's true.... I agree, his teaching technique and information really got my eyes open.
So true!
I know, right! I was like...that's it? it's that simple? Other tutorials are pretty confusing imo
The way my photography is about to change because of this video
Facts! I'm trying to learn so I can take pictures at my church and this tutorial was gold
In my 40+ years of photographing, for me, this compares to learning to speak a foreign language fluently in five minutes. Thank you!!
