Where to cut a San Pedro cactus that is too tall?

  • In this video, I show you how you can cut a cactus that is too tall. And the same also applies to a plant that would be badly etiolated in the middle part. In other words, you’re going to transform your tall san pedro into 2 or 3 separate, smaller plants.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    If you are interested in buying pure, well identified San Pedro seeds and seedlings, as well as San Pedro relatives, please email me at: sanpedromastery@protonmail.com
    If you have a question, I will only reply to questions about cultivation. Please no questions about the psychedelic properties of these cacti.

    I just want to say, I bought 3 Bridgesii cuts each about 20 inches long. These were ones that had fell and had damage from bugs and fungi, but had been treated and recovered, but with scars. I planted them horizontal log style and on all 3 is a new pup that came out. I'm so excited!! My san pedro pachanoi is taking forever to root. I put my bridgesii and pachanoi in the rooting dirt at the same time. My vertical bridgesii has already rooted and the log style ones have also rooted very qucikly. Pachanoi must take considerably longer to root. I also have a beautiful peruvian torch cutting about 25 inches tall and it is in the process of rooting. Spring is coming in and I just cannot wait to cut these pups away and make more cacti. This is an awesome hobby. I would have a thousand if I could.
    By the way, I have 4 bridgesii ( various strains two strong spines and two twin spines), 2 San Pedro pachanoi (non PC) and a Peruvian torch. The Peruvian torch was $200.00 for a 25 inch cut. It is the most beautiful cactus I have ever seen. My pachanoi are monstrose.

    i love planting a "cover crop" over my San Pedro soil, its a great indicator of deeper moisture or lack-there-of. i had so much soil space unused in the pots that i simply decided to plant micro greens, lettuce, spinach, and chia for the benefit of fresh greens and organic matter for the soil to accumulate while my cactus find their place in this time and space. What do you find works best if you have found anything they prefer? Im thankful for these videos, even after years of nurturing and staring at them growing, you answer so many of my oldest questions about them and i appreciate that information deeply.

    to get the most plant mass as quickly as possible would you recommend larger cuts that can grow fatter and faster or smaller cuts because there's more of them ? in my case i ask because I've just gotten a cactus approximately 30 - 40 cm tall and I'm wondering whether in say a year or so it will grow more cactus mass as multiple cuttings or as is?
    thank you, great channel

    I have an *indoor* San Pedro cactus that is three feet tall. The top few inches of it are green but soft and very thin, I think because I overwatered it at one point. The cactus won’t grow upward anymore, but it has shoots coming out from the sides. Should I cut off those top few inches? Would doing so make the rest of the cactus healthier and grow upward better?

    Are San Pedro, Peruvian Torch, and Bolivian Torch similar enough to treat them all the same?

  • @diething1
    @diething1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is this what an "active" sanpedro looks like. I got a san pedro back in march and it looks similar to this one. Small spines, not overly bluish, seven segments... I watched the video on identifying a non-pc plant, but it doesn't make enough sense. My cactus is still very young, so I haven't seen it bloom yet.

      Next time you repot, you should consider adding earthworm castings. I have a video on fertilizers where I talk about it. Other than that, water as soon as the soil is dry during growing season, and also you have the find the right sun exposure: then the plant is darker green, this is when it typically grows faster. Light green grows slower, yellowish grows the slowest.

    • @ropes17
      @ropes17 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sanpedromastery6262 I've been adding worm castings or other organic type fertilizers since I watched a video of yours mentioning it! I might need to work on watering as soon as the soil is dry though. Thanks!

    For how many years are you growing these?

    • @sanpedromastery6262
      @sanpedromastery6262  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These I did not grow from seeds, I got cuttings from an adult plant. From seeds to an adult plant that size would take more than 10 years (depends a lot on the strain, sun exposure, frequency of watering, if the plant is fed or not, etc.). Then once they are that size, they start to grow very fast, and often with branches starting from the base.
