    I fitted an after market rear wheel bearing with studs on my Mondeo and the studs were longer than Ford ones so the closed head nuts bottomed out before going tight. Great video, thanks.

    That is a fantastically informative video.
    Isn’t it amazing some peoples lack of attention to detail. I definitely didn’t know about the rubber sliding pin being trailing in its placement but everyday is a school day. Very well done Dave, no stone left unturned 👏👏👍

    • @davesterl

      Aye Peter, it's those things that i don't know what people consider or not, so based on what i found on this example, it gives me something to refer to. If that makes any sense.

      @@davesterl absolutely Dave, I will never forget that now.
      Wouldn’t you wonder how anyone could be that careless to fit brake pads like that & I have seen it quite a few times too 🤷🏼‍♂️
      I once saw a pad fitted backwards with the steel back up against the disc 😱😂😂

    • @davesterl
      @davesterl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i don't think it's carelessness. I think they don't know details such as pads pinned to piston, directional pads, carriers cleaned and filed. Pins not cleaned properly, not greased, wrong grease, slider pins in wrong place etc........My local factors tell me i'm the only person orders brake hardware and they supply most garages round here as they seem to just change pads and only that ie: beat old ones out and beat new ones in. I then get them in and redo the whole job and explain to owners the time is in the clean up. The other day i dumped new pads someone else fitted, ECP crap. There may be a factor of cost of time to what the customer is willing to pay.

    Grand job Dave. Meticulous attention to detail. You’re showing that Transit some love after serious neglect. How it got through its last MOT is beyond me. Reckon Granville should be paying you for promoting their ceramic grease!

    Thanks for a very detailed video of a job that I will be attempting to do in the spring. Just wondering if you’d advise the use of any anti seize ( aluminium anti seize ) or grease on the axle splines. For ease of future disassembly?

    Ah the old pre sale postal order MOT... why I never trust stealers, or sellers, or anyone selling a car for that matter. Well done Dave, in restoring faith in humanity. What a complete tool that worked on this before!
    Still going to steer clear from a roadside transit brake job then. No wonder they're expensive to do!
    You're teaching me things I never knew!
    No neversneeze on the driveshaft though?
    Edit: never mind. Now you told me!
    Thought about the nuts, they could be aftermarket nuts, because the fiesta has a zinc sheath on them. Steel swelled up and you end up with swollen nuts. I've told a few folks to buy cheap ebay nuts - open top. Been there, done that, because the spare I had on my chrysler needed open top nuts.
    SAMIR, YOU'RE BREAKING THE CAR!

    • @davesterl
      @davesterl  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are aftermarket nuts as they are aftermarket wheels. No anti seize on axle reqd if it's cleaned up. People put copper grease on the splines without clean up is another waste of time.

    Usual very high standard of information and real-world experience.
    I blame the many so-called experts on TH-cam that are not qualified for the poor-quality repairs inflicted on vehicles.
    The vehicle you so expertly worked on is an example of poor-quality workmanship.

      Yeah Colin for sure although i do see stuff that have been from other garages that i end up re-doing. When i get a vehicle for the first time the owner leaves with a list of advisories and comes back after we gather all the parts. It has been mentioned by others about teaching but i don't need a job.
