Knives are not weapons? What did we find on the battlefield pre-gunpowder and muzzleloaders for'1000s of years? Edge weapons and impact weapons. Every blade I own is a fixed blade combat knife or hunting knife. So while I agree that using a folder for self-defense is not the best option. Why? Because NutnFancy has shown us just how many of these locks will fail on you. So folders for self-defense. Nope! But to say the knives are not weapons makes you look ignorant of our history as a species and also the history of weapons. Some of the oldest weapons you will find are obsidian knives used for human sacrifice (Aztec). What do you think the double-edged dagger was invented for? Picking your nails clean!?
What I meant was "manual or automatic folding knives, or OTFs are tools first, weapons second, generally". The Lightning was designed as a tool, not a fighting weapon. Could it be used for that? Sure. So can a stick, or a rock, or a piece of glass, or just about anything.
@@matthewhoward4549 I have an updated review of this knife. My thought process on OTFs has changed a lot since this video. Check it out! 😊 th-cam.com/video/WaZ97b7jqcc/w-d-xo.html

Lightning Elite Satin Dagger was the first OTF I bought after 25 years of collecting knives. It's never misfired after 150 deployments. Just bought a Guardian Tactical Recon 040 bc I think Microtechs are overhyped and overpriced. They're stiff and I just wasn't all that impressed when I handled one in person. YMMV.
Yeah man I agree. Weird, but I like my edc stuff looking used and beat up a little. The finish wearing off my Glock 26, surefire defender, various pocketknives, looks really cool
I know it's an old video but LOL. For anyone else who watched the video: • No, an OTF is not a novelty knife • Yes, they can take abuse • Yes, it does have an advantage of utility over folders due to easy 1-handed use like he mentioned in another video.
Totally agree. I waited fifteen years to buy an OTF. But I wasn't aware of the inexpensive ones like the Lightning and wasn't willing to shell out over $400 for a Microtech. I also didn't buy Chinese knives until just recently. I prefer Taiwan but same thing. Now I own four OTFs ranging in price from $29 to $435. LOL.
@@karljohnson4008 "I prefer Taiwan but same thing" hey I hear you But don’t tell anyone from Taiwan that! lol. But what can you expect from a government who borderline is bros/supports north Korea, only place in the world right now where it is an open secret that they have WWII level concentration camps going on. Wish we could liberate them but getting involved would be worse than how we did with the Middle East (especially Iraq) which is saying something as it was a Vietnam level whoopsie.
These have been legal to carry in Virginia for about a year and a half now, not to conceal but to carry openly. And I have taken full advantage of that, carrying the Lightning OTF I've had for a few years on an almost daily basis. One of the first things I ever did with it, just to be sure of it, was to repeatedly stab a thick stack of triple-walled cardboard, the kind companies box their merchandise in before shipping it freight. Again, this was 10 or 12 fast stabs at full power. Every single Lightning I've done this with has passed with flying colors. These things hold up. The blade still is a little softer than modern stainless super steels, sure, but daily strapping or honing as you use. It is all that is needed to maintain a very fine edge. These are also very handy if you stitch, trim, or work with leather a lot. It's just very convenient the one hand open and close. There's also an added safety factor with these, seeing as how your fingers are never in the path of the blade so long as you're holding the handle. Almost no other type of knife aside from a fixed blade can claim that. In other words, if you don't have one, then immediately buy one. And use the hell out of it.
I think the big utility advantage of a DA OTF is safe *closing*. If, for example you're on a ladder in an awkward position, and you need to cut something, then put away your knife, a DA OTF is the least likely design to result in an accidental cut.
Good video, I work in manufacturing and I have used a Lightning drop point blade for about five years now. Still works well as a cheap everyday carry. I keep the blade sharp, and clean, at it has been a good knife that I have enjoyed using. The derailment they do is a safety feature in case of the very rare chance it goes off in pocket. I use it more than my higher end knives. Good for cheap price.
I own two of these. The serrated tanto blade and non serrated. I bought mine in Wisconsin Dells. I always keep mine clean, open them up, oil them up. I use mine everyday, had them both a year now, still working perfectly fine. Just ordered a MidTech OTF Gloom V2, looks with the Tanto/Hellhound blade style. Looks close to a Microtech.
These Chinese clones of brand name OTF knives fill a niche for those who aren't able to shell out $400+ for exotic steel blades and super tight tolerances. I have a Boker Plus Kalishnakov OTF that I bought to EDC when I don't want to beat up my Guardian Tactical Recon 040. It is made in Texas from Chinese parts by Cobratech. It fires hard and reliably every time and the grind is near perfect and razor sharp out of the box. It's not M390 steel BUT IT IS D2! It's a heck of a deal for $119! Don't turn up your nose up on these lower-priced knives. You might just find a gem.
Great Video.BTW, I subscribed. If I can speak for the rest of the viewers, we appreciate your humility. But yeah, it is what it is . I have known people to buy cheap beater cars and show appreciation and care for it, and it lasts way longer than expected. Lightning is an affordable "beater" OTF knife that may never hold a candle to Microtech or Benchmade quality. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.Kittens were created so that we could admire a Tigers beauty up close.
I have a Titan OTF. It's pretty much the same quality and price of the Lightning. I just uploaded a video on my channel about my Titan. I've abused the heck out of it for well over a year and it's still going strong. I carry mine everyday and use it for everything and I dispute your claim of them not being hard use knives. Use the thing and you'll be surprised what it can handle. I should be getting a Lightning this weekend and I plan on using the heck out of that one too. If anyone reads this and wants to know the truth, these cheap OTFs like Lightnings will handle anything you throw at it and they make great edc blades.
I've had my lightning for about a year, black, but a lot of the finish has worn off. Used it a lot more than I should have but it fires every time as fast as when I got it. Little blade play. Seriously for $40 just buy one, it's a great every day do whatever knife.
I got my Lightning in 2015 off Amazon, still use it all the time as a utility knife and fidget toy, most of the paint has worn off the handle, but it still works great.
I have mine..I call it white lightning cause it’s white in color..and let me tell you, when I got it it was super sharp..cut through paper like butter, not even kidding and it does it’s job so don’t listen to these negative reviews they are not bad at all for the price..it’s well worth the money..my microtech has failed more than my white lightning..idgaf what any one says..great knife..no misfire and sharp asf..buy one trust me you won’t be disappointed
So I looked it up for anyone wondering, the blade is 420C. That’s awesome.. think your old leatherman multi-tool. It doesn’t corrode unless you are crazy careless. Basically this will be a very dependable blade steel, I am very impressed.
Have this exact knife for my every day carry. But not for self-defense or survival. Works amazing for work (I actually use my knife multiple times and hour for work). I like OTF knifes because when I need to use it I can deploy it and put it up one handed while I’m doing my work and Multi-tasking. And it’s cheap enough that I don’t worry about loosing or it braking. Had it for a while and with regular maintenance it will last.
I never thought I would buy an OTF but now I have four of them: Lightning , Boker Plus, Benchmade, Guardian Tactical. Love them! Just as easy to deploy as the side deployment automatic knives of which I have many. Don't know why I waited so long. The Lightning Elite Satin Dagger was my first. Give it a try. You won't be sorry. $29 on Grindworx.
Cheap knives are amazing for self defense. Knives can be pretty dulled and still be effective for self defense (personal experience) and when the police take them, they usually don’t give them back, also personal experience. You’d be dumb to lose a $450 microtech combat troodon for nothing.
I imagine a fixed blade is superior for self defense. Shivworks' Clinchpick comes to mind. Or pistol grip-esque blades... (which I prefer to punch daggers, however Cold Steel's Urban Pal is a valid option, the mini pal is super concealable, can barely be seen while gripped, only 20 bucks off amazon) ... like Ka-Bars tdi, Police officers use it so it cannot be bad. Held within belt, you can draw it with either hand quickly. Comes in a larger size, and a smaller grip but same size blade is offered with the Investigator variant. I have my eye on the Benchmade Azeria, similar to the Ka-Bar but has a wharncliffe blade which is slept on heavily when it comes to self defense. While a bitch to carry, something like the Cold Steel Wasp, virtually indestructible, which accommodates a helluva saber grip which is most comfortable 2 me after years fencing. It has a dagger blade great for thrusts but the way it bellies out makes it a capable chopper as well. Only design of a dagger I know which doesn’t sacrifice it's thrust ability for a secondary decent slashing capability.
I just ordered 1 with a a black handle and dagger blade , aswell as a mini joker knife I hope they last , but I like to open and close my knives a bunch so they might break
I'm from CA. I just gotta ask, is it perfectly fine to keep it at home? I won't dare take it outside my house, as I have absolutely no reason to take this type of knife out in public. But I do like the utility of having it as a letter/package opener.
Have same one and have had it for about 2 years use it every day at work strop it maybe once a week it’s razor sharp WORTH IT for sure !! Go get one ☝🏼 can’t go wrong for price
Hey Metal Complex I have a question, do you think that Boker Plus Lhatok Falcon OTF is a good knife? it comes around 100 dolars and i wanted to buy it but i want to know if you think its good and if it will last some time....
Check out the Boker Plus Kalishnakov OTF. I have owned one for a couple weeks and it has been very reliable. Never failed to deploy after hundreds of operations.
I also live in Kansas and just ordered one of these to carry as a use knife. Personally, I really don't care what other people think. But I don't flash one around either. Nice video.
Despite people having some problems, I do carry my Microtech clones but I do own a few real ones. People are gonna be freaked out if you pull a knife out to use in general
One other thing, they’re a little safer than flipper knives since your fingers don’t come near the blade at all, as well as if the locking mechanism fails, it Just retracts compared to a flipper, where you run a chance of cutting some fingers
I definitely shoulda got this one. I went with 2 medium atomic defenders with different blades. The first one broke before I even carried it. The second works but I definitely question it's durability. These are for fun anyway but I'm gonna get a lightning.Should I get the Lightning Elite?
I recently bought a Lightning Elite satin dagger from Grindworx, a division of Blade HQ, and would highly recommend it. I have fired it hundreds of times and it has never failed to deploy. I did also buy a second Lightning Elite clippoint black blade that failed to deploy reliably. I sent it back to Grindworx and they gave me a full refund. Would highly recommend buying from them.
@@karljohnson4008 ya I got the lightning elite and it's been really great. I have to get another one my son has taken this one over and I probably will jus get a clip point lightning.
I found this very useful when i have gloves on, my thumb cant get a good grip on my other flippers. But this chunky OTF works great with leather gloves especially when you have to hold your grip with one hand and deploy with the other.
I've owned three of these Lightnings bought between 2017 and 2020. The first one and third are still going strong despite hard use in my EDC rotation and the usual fidgeting. The middle one had the rear tab on the blade spring fail... It still kind of works, but rattles horribly open or closed with a loose floppy blade, because the rear tab keeps bending out from its proper 90-degree angle. You can bend it back, but after two or three actuations it fails again. Maybe it's just crap steel on the tab or they forgot to heat treat it or something, but it's soft enough I can literally bend it by hand. Still it lasted a couple years and since my other two are still going strong; for $35 I can't complain.
Good general review. I just got a Lightening & it's pretty stiff, hard to deploy & retract. I sprayed a good amount of Tuf-Glide on the slide & in the slot for the blade. It's made it a little easier to work, but not a big improvement. I've been shooting it out & retracting it a few hundred times until It's driven me crazy. I can't imagine anyone getting a kick out of mindlessly working it back & forth. Thanks for the video.
My Lightning Elite is easier to fire than any Microtech. And it fires fast and hard. I suppose their's some variation in tolerances that you will always get when you buy a $30 knife vs a $400+ knife.
I think that knife is made in Taiwan, not China. I think that may be the reason it's held up so well. I believe there are China made knockoffs (even with a cheaper otf) that probably don't hold up so well. I just ordered one myself, fingers crossed it's as well made as that one (considering it's cost)
Literally just got one of these today from a buddy. He's a fan of OTFs, and thought this would be a good entry point. While I have no metric for comparison, I think this presents a super solid kahCHUNK that is so satisfying on the switch. I am certain the blade steel will be cut/strop/cut/strop, but this is fun for the collection. Plus, finger safe!
I recently ponied up and bought a Guardian Tactical Recon 035. I absolutely love it. But yes, the other parents from my kids soccer team don't seem to appreciate it as much as I do.
If you're using your knife around people who freak out when you use it, you're either with the wrong people or you put too much value in the wrong people's opinions.
I can't avoid the people I work with, and I don't have a choice when it comes to whether or not they are comfortable with my knives. I get what you're saying, it's just not applicable.
You had me right up until 11:38. NSS!! Any knife that does THAT is illegal. Its called a ballistic knife if it does that. Anyway, I had to add locktight blue to the pocket clip to keep it from getting loose, use mine every day, have never found the limit of pressure that 'you cannot apply'. I don't pry with it. I wouldn't pry with my infidel either. The fact is I carry this knife, I'm afraid to carry the infidel because I may lose it and it looks too scary. This looks like a utility knife. Great knife. For the price, its incredible. My infidel has less left to right and up down blade play, but the in out blade play on this knife is zero. Three years of everyday carry.
The blue Infidel special edition was the first OTF I bought. I would not carry it either. I bought it for collecting and playing with in my house. It's a wicked looking dagger that deploys smooth as silk.
I carry my ultra tech n drocket Zulu spear to work and I use it a hundred times a day and nobody blinks an eye.i guess people are different in different areas
Same here,I’ve carried an Ultratech to work for years and I bought my Hogue Exploit about a year ago and carry it often too but nobody has said anything or gave me any funny looks..I live in East Tennessee though where it’s not uncommon to see folks carrying big fixed blade knives like KaBars and Buck 119s
I wouldn't spend 500 bucks on a knife even I had 10 million dollars I fine some of the budget knives work quite well to defend myself or carry in my pocket
OTFs Don’t scare the people around me on a day today basis. My Troodon (Combat Tanto) seems to hold up to any use I throw at it. I’m not saying it’s superior to a frame lock, but m390 is tough stuff whether it’s on a kershaw, benchmade, or microtech otf. I’ve got a cf ultra tech that’s my “dressy” oft that doesn’t get used but I feel confident that it would hold up just fine. You can’t fire an otf through material but you can sure stab through just about anything you’d stab with a folder. There’s a video somewhere of someone hammering an ultra tech through a 2x4, no lockup failure at all. The Lightning’s are pretty good blades for the money for sure.
Send it back. It is defective. I ordered two Lightning Elites and one was bad. Failed to deploy every 5th time. I sent it back to Grindworx for a full refund.
I recently got one of these, and I’m right there with you on Chinese knives, but stuff like this really makes me want the real deal. I’ll probably get a microtech at some point in the near future!
Buy a Guardian Tactical! 10X smoother deployment than a Microtech. And no idiotic bulbous glass breaker stabbing you in your hand every time you pull it out of your pocket.
Been eyeing a microtech ultratech 122-10. Double edge, dagger style, stonewash, 3.46 inch blade. $265. Just want one good quality otf in my collection.
I've had my lightning OTF for about 4-5 years now and it's my EDC. I mean that literally...like 70% of the time I'm out I've had this knife on me. I've abused the shit out of it and it just keeps going. I bought another just so I would have a spare but the spare literally just sits in my nightstand lol. These are very sturdy knives.
Gonna pick a couple of these up for myself and a few buddies. Microtechs are awesome, but too pricey and too hard to find the exact configuration we all want. I've heard they use what is essentially 440C for the blade. How's the edge retention been in your experience? If it's on par with 8cr13mov, I'll be perfectly happy
@@knivesinedc they say the 440c is slightly below 8Cr13MoV. Not quite up to par with the 440HC that Buck uses. But if you have access to some stones, you can keep it sharp. But unless you're using it to cut 20 pieces of cardboard everyday, you should be fine for quite some time.
@@karljohnson4008 I've heard that about 440A. I know Spyderco used to use 440C on a few knives like the cat and I think the bushcraft (?) and it was pretty solid, but it probably really comes down to heat treat and the molecular quality of the metal itself
@ 3:28 - You obviously are overly concerned (IMHO) with what other people think of you. I can’t relate to that. It’s not my job to make people feel comfortable around me. If I need an OTF knife to defend my life, what other people think of me, is their problem, not mine❗️👈. Thanks for the video!
This guy clearly does not work with his hands. I’m up in the air all the time and a lot of time. I only have one hands-free and I tell you this now if you buy a microtech, if you buy a Protech if you buy a bench made even if you buy that new popsicle from Kershaw, they will never fail you❤
I’ve owned 3. Always lost it before breaking it. They really are great knives. Not stellar materials, but build quality and action are superb for the price.
These cheaper OTF’s aren’t equal in price. I’ve only spent money like that on cheap ones and none of them have lasted barely a year doing some pretty light basic cutting on a daily. Couldn’t be sharpened. One of them went dull cutting plastic wrap for only a couple months. I bought a Microtech because I want it to last due to how much i considered spending all together on cheaper ones. Edge retention so far is definitely proving to be worthwhile.
I don’t give a crap about anyone else’s opinion. Mine is the only one that counts in my world and my Lightning is the best all around EDC knife I ever purchased under $30 bucks hands down. I’ve been carrying mine for two and a half years with no issues. When I use it hard I take 5 minutes to sharpen it again. BTW their legal in Pennsylvania.
People talk about the ability to open and close an otf one handed, like that is exclusive to otfs-it's not,you can do that easily with any knife with an axis lock
I'm going to call BS on it not being a hard use knife. I have abused mine to hell and back for 3yrs now. Bent the tip even and still goes in and out. I work in construction and it's my daily carry. Just wish I could buy another 2 or 3. But websites that sell them are down.
Is it capable? Sure. I'll rephrase for clarification: It has potential weaknesses that knives with fewer parts don't have. A manual knife that's built well in the same price range (Civivi, CJRB, Bestech etc) will have better longevity because it had fewer ways to fail.
@@metal_complex I feel ya. Wish I could post a pic and show you how best mine is. Is it a fixed blade. No. Is it a quality folder. No. But it takes a licking for sure. Also from what I've read the handles are aluminum and blade is lower quality steel. Regardless. Mine has been a real trooper. I've cut aluminum burrs off with it a d many other things I shouldn't have. Used it to pry stuff and as a flathead screw driver. Sharpens right back. Up every time. I've done everything but split wood with it. Lol. Its held up better than my crkt m16. 1* a d lives on my side every day.
The Chinese manufacturers are getting way better at quality control these days and will begin to produce top quality knives at way less cost. I'm sorry but a knife should not cost $300,$400, $500 and up just because it's made in America. I understand material costs. I can understand a handmade work of art as well. But for every day working knives they should not cost that much.
Chinese workers aren't making $60,000 to $100,000 a year either. They live in squalor and they're barely getting by. Try running a business in the US and paying an employee $5,000 a year and see what you get. It's not a level playing field. Yet Microtech sells thousands of Ultratechs every year. So do Benchmade and Guardian Tactical. You have to admit they are on a different level of quality than the Chinese-made knockoffs. Don't get me wrong, I own a Lightning and several US manufacturer knives made in Taiwan. But Chinese is quickly catching up and there are many Chinese companies that produce very high quality knives.
Frankly, why the hell are you having a guy who admits that he doesn't know anything about this knife reviewing it and recommending you buy it? Nothing against the guy, but get somebody who knows the product to push it.
honestly these knives are so fragile it's just a bad joke that they're illegal. it just goes to show laws are made by people that know nothing about what they're making laws for you wouldn't believe how many people think these things will go through skin and clothing if you hold it up to someone and fire the knife
@Rich Scales so you would also say that the springs are very strong in this? because even if the blade is the sharpest point in the world, it will not pierce skin if you hold it up to it, the springs would have to be really strong, which they are not, and you say it will go clean through skin? false, it would poke you, and maybe make you bleed, but it will not go all the way through skin,
@@jayden5718 you said body, which part? legs or arms, even then it will never go through your limbs, also shut up and learn grammar, "do i say entire body" it should be"did i say entire body"
Did you say the high end OTFs aren’t hard use?? A microtech OTF can be hammered like a nail through a damn 2 by 4 it can split wood and endure much more and still function normally!! Just watch the dozens of torture tests don’t in microtechs and you will see exactly what I’m talking about. And IMO the only downfall a quality OTF has is if sand or grit gets in the action but a little rem oil clears that right up. But yes if you buy a cheap OTF made in China then of course it’s not going to be hard use 🤦♂️
In rough situation people adrenaline takes over and shoving that switch I guarantee you every time you will beat a manual flipper your thumbs will fumble nervousness will catch him. Tendons will tighten. Muscles won’t perform correctly and you’re just not gonna flip it open as fast plain and simple check with the military Jackson❤
I have a few switchblade knifes that are all German and I’ve had them for over 35 40 years I have never carried them in the state I live it’s not legal and I’ve always said if you can carry a gun why would you want to carry a knife I do carry a razor knife when I go to a lumberyard where I might need to cut cardboard or straps on lumber .
Wow! Not seeing a quick deploy knife as not a viable weapon? Look up the Tueller drill and see that basically inside of 21' having a knife at the gunfight is real. Carrying an OTF is a choice just like the Leatherman. It's about the mission.
I have limited use of my right arm. I have a Schrade OTF single action knife. If someone don't like my knife they sure as Hell won't like the Colt 1911 on my hip.

@Ferris Bueller Maybe a smaller neck knife yes but baggy clothing and a budget sheathe could cause issues for standard fixed blades.
Good video, I work in manufacturing and
I have used a Lightning drop point blade for about five years now. Still works well as a cheap everyday carry. I keep the blade sharp, and clean, at it has been a good knife that I have enjoyed using. The derailment they do is a safety feature in case of the very rare chance it goes off in pocket. I use it more than my higher end knives. Good for cheap price.
Thanks for letting my know that I was a little worried on that one thing cause I wear jeans that fit and could see my luck having it open.
Anthony Mancuso very good to know! Thank you ive been interested.
Where in the dells?
@@xxkrusher1013 Probably one of the shops downtown
How did the midtech work out for you??
Microtech Combat Troodons are now $500.00. Halos around $700.00.
That's why I just bought the Guardian Tactical Recon 0400 for $379!
I’ve got one coming to me I paid $20
For it brand new...

Yea me to about 3 to 4 years ago from blade hq
Grindworx 👍
jeffcon123 how is it now ?
Does it still work
Lil Trunks yep still in perfect workin order I don’t use it a ton but it works just fine
I own three of these and I have never had a problem and enjoy them.
Is the knife still kickin ass? Thinking of buying one for basic everyday use for my uncle and myself haha
(which I prefer to punch daggers, however Cold Steel's Urban Pal is a valid option, the mini pal is super concealable, can barely be seen while gripped, only 20 bucks off amazon)
... like Ka-Bars tdi, Police officers use it so it cannot be bad.
A waved deploying knife is the best deploying self defense knife.
@david lynn For a foldng knife.
Does you lighting otf buzz when deploying?
I just ordered 1 with a a black handle and dagger blade , aswell as a mini joker knife I hope they last , but I like to open and close my knives a bunch so they might break
I bought the same one. Have deployed it hundreds of times with not one failure to deploy. Love it.
I'm from CA. I just gotta ask, is it perfectly fine to keep it at home? I won't dare take it outside my house, as I have absolutely no reason to take this type of knife out in public. But I do like the utility of having it as a letter/package opener.
If the retailer will ship it to your house, you keep it inside your house and no one knows you have it, who's to complain?
@@karljohnson4008 just wondering the full extent of the law
Have same one and have had it for about 2 years use it every day at work strop it maybe once a week it’s razor sharp WORTH IT for sure !! Go get one ☝🏼 can’t go wrong for price
Thanks for the review! Just picked one of these up at the gun show today. Looking forward to trouble free use over the next few years. ;)
Somebody may have already answered this, I did not read all the comments. My info as to the blade steel is Lightnings use 440C.
Didnt know that. 440c would be great!
And aluminum handle
One other thing, they’re a little safer than flipper knives since your fingers don’t come near the blade at all, as well as if the locking mechanism fails, it Just retracts compared to a flipper, where you run a chance of cutting some fingers
Yeah cuz having it fire in your pocket it totally safer 😂
@@shinedown394 That can't happen. The only way to fire it is with your finger and it takes some force to actuate the switch.
@@shinedown394 the fabric in your pocket is enough to detail this.
The knife your talking about that doesn't have blade play is called the dead lock I believe
After watching hundreds of MC videos over the last year or so, I found this one today. :D It's funny to hear young MC.
There is an argument to be made that cheap knives are better for EDC. No drama if it gets lost, broken or confiscated.
had mine for 7 years now. Love it ! still works like new.
You're correct. It's made in Taiwan 👍
I bought mine in wis dells too lol
Literally just got one of these today from a buddy. He's a fan of OTFs, and thought this would be a good entry point. While I have no metric for comparison, I think this presents a super solid kahCHUNK that is so satisfying on the switch. I am certain the blade steel will be cut/strop/cut/strop, but this is fun for the collection. Plus, finger safe!
I just bought a RavenCrest Tactical otf karambit and I was wondering how long it would last.
I recently ponied up and bought a Guardian Tactical Recon 035. I absolutely love it. But yes, the other parents from my kids soccer team don't seem to appreciate it as much as I do.
Thats the best OTF hands Down . The recon 040 is a beast
Lol, non-knife people just don't get it. I'm waiting for my GT Recon 040 to arrive. Can't wait.
where do you buy these? which stores sell em, dept stores? not online...
Im not aware of any place other than online. Blade HQ is where that one was purchased.
@@metal_complex I just got one from them still waiting on it.
Grindworx sells them and many other OTFs. They are a division of Blade HQ.
You must live in Prarie Village or Leawood because I've never had a negative reaction to my autos on the missouri side of the state line.
Bought 4 back in the day when they were like $29 , still going strong , that was 10 years ago . 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
They're STILL $29 on Grindworx!
Just got the new lightning elites for $35. $9 shipping sucks but atleast it’s 2-day air shrug 🤷♂️
What is the sharpening angle of the "lightning" OTF knife?
I think I did it at 20.
What do you think about the lightning delta force knife?
I haven't handled that one yet. Looks a lot like a Combat Troodon.
How do you remove the pocket clip, i,I, tried small phillips driver , but wouldn,t loosen up.
Torx T6
I got the elite model and it fails to launch every 5 tries. Seems related to the screws tightening.
Send it back. It is defective. I ordered two Lightning Elites and one was bad. Failed to deploy every 5th time. I sent it back to Grindworx for a full refund.
@@karljohnson4008 I think I have waited two long. It was my first auto so I assumed buyer beware.
I had to defend myself once with a cheap Otf and it did the trick , lasted around 6 jabs before it went back into the handle
I've had mine since, say 2005.no problems.bought it in old Town Florida. Store is since closed though. Like 20 bucks.
Fixed blades are best way to go every situation imo
To fix my derailment issue, I just flick it in my hand like a traditional and it fixes it
How much did that deadlock end up running? 😄
im getting the mini 1 7/8 inch blade one... so its cali legal, i have a good knife so im getting it for the figet factor

Boker is pretty good for under 200, made in the USA.
Been eyeing a microtech ultratech 122-10. Double edge, dagger style, stonewash, 3.46 inch blade. $265. Just want one good quality otf in my collection.
The Ultratech is definitely your best bet for an OTF in that price range. You won't be disappointed.
I would say buy a Guardian Tactical over the Microtech. Much smoother deployment and same quality for less money.
@@karljohnson4008 I have the ultratech and the guardian tactical recon 040. The recon is much better than the ultratech.
Who cares
I’ve had my lightning about 6 years. I can keep a sharper edge on it than I can my Benchmade.
I had someone compare the OG Lightning to an AK47: sure it’s cheap and stamped metal, but you can abuse it and it won’t blink.
Guardian Tactical. IMO, the best OTFs
1000%
Yes! Much smoother than a Microtech. I just ordered a GT Recon 0400. Arriving tomorrow. Hope it's as sweet as the reviews show it.
People talk about the ability to open and close an otf one handed, like that is exclusive to otfs-it's not,you can do that easily with any knife with an axis lock
... I don't think anyone has ever argued that. It's well known. OTFs just offer a different type of convenience.
Life or death doesn't have to be strictly self-defense. Cutting a seatbelt could be life or death, or getting tangled in a rope on a fishing boat.
Correct
I actually have an updated video on this. Its the same thumbnail but the knife is red. 👍
American this, American that! Some Chinese products are better than American ones regardless of price.
Kinda cool watching this when all I've seen is newer vids. Easily see why he was successful

honestly these knives are so fragile it's just a bad joke that they're illegal. it just goes to show laws are made by people that know nothing about what they're making laws for
you wouldn't believe how many people think these things will go through skin and clothing if you hold it up to someone and fire the knife
