Hi Shimmy, so glad I found this review after I opened an account with Gelato, yesterday morning, to test out their poster and art print quality. Thanks for all your helpful videos.
Thanks for this. I discovered Gelato a couple of weeks ago but haven't got around to ordering anything yet. You've saved me money and put my mind at ease. Thanks again Shimmy.
I’m with Gelato for my Etsy shop. They did thick every box i was looking for…. But there are some BUTS. 1. Yesterday they sended a mail that they going to raise their prices, both production and shipping!!!! It’s not only a high raise, they going to charge different prices depending where the product will be printed, the difference can be big, so it will be hard to set your priced for your store. 2. Shipping isn’t always fast. My last order took 2 full weeks for a sweater printed in Germany for France! 3. Gelato + is a complete waste of money. I did it and regret it. The placement of the design is different on each mockup. The illustrations you can use from their library are complete useless. At least for apparel. Almost all illustrations have a plain white background, and a lot of them come in sets where you can’t select 1 illustration. I’m honestly considering leaving them and go to printify ( cheaper with subscription, more colors)
Yes this price raise was super annoying! As you can see I didn't know so couldn't put it in the video in time. I checked and they're still cheaper than their main competitors like Printful which is good. The thing with shipping, it's not going to be perfect every-time, but if 9 times out of 10 it delivers fast then that's good. I wouldn't recommend Gelato +. I think for the most part... Easy UI, usually fast shipping, good quality material and prints, not too expensive... that's all you really need at the end of the day.
I don’t know the quality of Printify. But you think Gelato is better then? I only sell sweaters (gildan 18000) and printify would be cheaper with subscription and i really fancy the ash and sand color ( which Gelato doesn’t have). But if the print quality is less, then i should overthink it…
Thank you for this. I like the look and design of the website; it’s far nicer than Printify, but I’m a bit disappointed in the lack of AOP clothing products. They don’t offer one single AOP option.😕 Now, I see they are constantly updating their website, which is good. Hopefully they will add AOP items in the near future. 😳🙏
They're building their apparel section now, as they started out in the cards, pictures, etc... I definitely think they'll add more products like AOP soon
love your videos. Is Gelato still your favorite or have you found better since this video? I am just about to open a shop and want the best. thank you so much.
Thanks for this Shimmy was waiting for you to recommend another supplier after the Printailor disappointment. Will definitely check them out as Printify isn't as cheap as it claims- what is advertised isn't what you end up paying.
Well, I've had Gelato on my list for a long time, but never got around to them. Gelato, I believe started in the PoD business by doing wall art, so that is probably where they are the most experienced.
Hey Shimmy, thank you for this video! Do you know if Gelato requires a credit card to charge you when an order comes through or if they just subtract the money straight from the order? Thanks!
Thanks for the video, Shimmy. I'm in the UK too, so hopefully will get the same partner if I go with them. Printful are just too expensive. I've been looking at a UK-based company called Inkthreadable, who seem really cheap for my like-for-like products (mugs and organic Ts). Fewer integrations, and the website could be better, but might be good for people just starting out (like I am). A review would be great, if you can find the time.
Great video! Thank you! What color mode do you use for POD CMYK, SRGB, or RGB. Amazon uses RGB and that's why the colors on the t shirts are so vibrant and bright. Other companies use cmyk. Can you do a video about it?
I use RGB, most printers will convert it when they come to print. I can do a video about that, I do have a basic video about RGB and CMYK in the course
@@shimmymorris1 I saw it in your course and I understand the differences. Ok I see why Amazon suggest using RGB from a blog. I thought they were using RGB but it's for use with other Amazon advertising not the apparel. I enjoyed the course! Thank you.
Thanks, Shimmy, for another great video. Perhaps the quality and service will vary quite a bit from Gelato’s suppliers since products come from affiliated POD local printers. You may have gotten your order from a superb supplier while others from one that at best is so-so?
Very interesting, thanks for the video. I’ve been looking for other POD companies. I’m wondering if you have Contrado on your list? I did ask some months back if you were going to review them, but you’re a busy chap. 👍 It would be great if you could, please, do a review? Thanks and best wishes, Colin.
Hi Shimmy, I use 4500 x 5400 px for Gelato but it says Print size: 3701 × 4927 px, would that be a problem. as mine are higher pixels? I might need to order one to see. they do look great in my shop
check out their catalogue, they've got a few. The apparel side of things isn't the largest as they specialise in wall art and those sorts of products, but it looks like they're growing the apparel side rapidly.
I just added a product to my Etsy shop from Gelato. They have 2 brands listed on their site. The Bella Canvas 3480 and the Gildan 64200. However, I don't which brand the customer will receive when they purchase. Do they just print on whichever brand and send it?
How exactly do one connect to another store is it a case we must sign up for etsy or shopify first and then connect it and when someone order off etsy what ever address they put it thats where thr print on demand company will send it? What if someone is in Jamaica 🇯🇲 like me how do I create a successful business with print on Demand outside of the UK and the US?
You would connect a printing partner with etsy, then when you get orders, if that printing partner sends to Jamaica they'll ship the item to the customer no problem
@@shimmymorris1 ohhhhhh ok cause often times we out here in Jamaica cannot get stuff unless its ship to a warehouse in US then the shipping company gets it to us. But if etsy or ebay ships to Jamaica 🇯🇲 then if my printing partner is Tee spring or whatever they would send it to the post office here
Awesome video(s) can you tell us what your production budget is? You seem to spend a lot of money on samples. Average Joes like us can't afford that :)
It depends on the company. I like to order quite a bit for the video so it's more justified. It can be between $100-$300. But if you're just looking for a few samples, don't spend more than $50
I want to try them as well. I am with printing and Prihtful. Printful is expensive but I can different apparel in one listing which is good. Also it is good if shipping to outside USA. Gelato seems that also. I sue printing as it is cheaper than prihtful but Gelato seems to be good. Can you please make videos on huge POD (no etsy integration yet) and Custom cat?
I have made a video on Hugepod already. Still no etsy, integration, they said one month a lot longer than one month ago so I don't know what's going on there. Custom cat is on the list
@@shimmymorris1 thank you. I keep HugePOD asking them and they keep saying soon. I gave up on them as they are more expensive than your new find (Gelato) so will be using them.
gelato sucks. for me at least.. They lost 3/5 of my orders and saying sorry all the time ( at least got a refund), And print quality is a joke and it's not the same everywhere... The only good is the material that you can buy it cheaper.. But I don't believe customers will prefer bad print over a good quality shirt... The first thing that everyone sees is the print

Hi Shimmy, thks for your take on Gelato. I ordered my first Tee as a tester from Printful and was terrible disappointed with the fabric. I ordered the color pink and what I got was a washed out pink with grey streaks running thru it. I am so disappointed but glad I ordered a tester as I would not want anyone to buy this thinking they were getting a solid pink Tee. Has this happened to you? Would you consider doing a video on what to do when this happens. by the way Printful are saying this is what I ordered, not true.
@@shimmymorris1 thks for your reply. I contacted Printful and they have agreed to send me at no charge another Tee in the exact color I wanted! So all is well.
you're right! Can't believe i left that out. That is important for branding for sure. Your name should still be on the postage label which is good though, but you're right. We need proper branding!
Talking from personal experience.. The only good with them is the fast shipping (if the carriers don't lose your order as happened to me so many times). They are worldwide and that's why they ship fast. That doesn't mean they have good quality.. I had so many issues with the prints too. Cracks and fade after 2 washes.. (Germany supplier). People, there is no POD COMPANY that can do everything perfectly. Don't be fool... Take care with them!
That's shocking! But that blame lies with the couriers, as long as they sent new ones or refunded. I found their quality to be pretty good. But I haven't done a 2 week test. I guess time will tell and maybe an update video will come soon
