  • Ride along with us as we head to the Windy City to rescue an Epic '65 GTO from a suburban garage. We purchased this awesome Poncho muscle car from its ORIGINAL owner who special ordered it with all the high performance goodies: "Three deuces and a 4 speed and a 389" along with 3.90 gears and metallic brakes. Then to be more competitive on the street, he installed a Bobcat kit from Royal Pontiac! If you enjoy the story, please "Like" and "Subscribe" to follow our future adventures on The Montana Barn Find.

I had a 65 GTO mldnight blue 4 speed also. Sold it in October 72. When I enlisted, wished I new then what the future is now.

There's nothing wrong with a 4-bbl. GTO that a super-charger won't fix. lol Love the '65 GTOs for their sleek styling and real GROWL coming from under the hood.
My dream car would be a 1965 GTO with a navy blue paint job, a black interior, a 6-speed auto trans, and a souped up 421 under the hood. Man, whatta car!

I knew Ace Wilson as a kid growing up in Walloon Lake MI. Ace always brought fancy cars up to his House on Walloon. He sold the dealership around 1970 and moved to Walloon lake permanently. My brother had a 65 GTO back then with the 389 six pack and 4 speed.

That is one sweet ride bro man got the 389 three deuces and a four-speed holy crap oh yeah what a deal in Black nice, I give you a quick little story from when I was 19 1977 I was working for a mortar company and one of the workers my coworkers sold me a 1966 GTO had a 389 four barrel four feet hurst, for $100 I drove it for about a week the back tail lights didn't work wiring problems and the throwout bearing was real bad in the car I didn't want it so I sold it back to him man if I had kept that car it was a gold color two door hardtop it just didn't have the three deuces damn I still kick myself in the butt for that one.

I agree! I posted on this thread about my first car being a ‘65 Lemans. I had it repainted; took off all the badges/ emblems and lied to my car buddies that it was a GTO. Lol.

I love this car! Had a friend back in the 80's who was looking for one and I found one for sale in the newspaper, told him about it. Maroon 4 speed 3 carb car. Was expensive at $2800, but he bought it! First car I was ever in that could pop wheelies! Great times! Then he had a kid and sold it for a loss at $2500. I should have bought it. Wait, that's right, I didn't have any money back then!!! Ha ha.

I think Royal Pontiac did it right with their upgrades. It was a bunch of little things put together to create one serious creation.
Imagine if other GM dealerships followed Royals example.

OMG!!!. Amazing score!. What dreams are made of. The car is just the way I would want it. 65, trips, and a 4 spd. The Bob-cat is icing on the cake. Had that similar car on the road as a DD for 10 yrs, from late 70s, to late 80s. What a blast they were back then. Joe was there a few yrs before me, and I envy him for that. He has great taste. I will subscribe, cause I want to see fwd progress on this car. Good luck with it, and "PLEASE", don't sell it.
P.S. I'll give a pass to the chevy comment in the video. (No one's perfect):)

!3.04 with slicks is respectable, I've felt that a lot of those old muscle cars were shortchanged by those narrow bias tires. I bought a 65 GTO in late 80's and toyed with the idea of putting a BBC/427 in it, but I was newly married, so.......
