- The historical accuracy of a given film isn't always correct. Sometimes there's a political agenda from Hollywood to say something more. In this archival TCM original production, filmmaker Oliver Stone, actor Charlton Heston and author Robert Brent Toplin discuss the ways in which history can reflect the era in which it's being taught.

Thank you TCM for keeping the history of film alive with historical context. The full historical picture is often uncomfortable but growing pains are necessary for the process of maturity. Long live cinema

Conservatives and Liberals in the golden age of Hollywood had their differences but they always treated each other with respect and respected each others' political opinions. Some of the greatest movie stars ever were right wing conservatives - John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Jimmy Stewart. Kirk Douglas was liberal but he maintained a great friendship with Jimmy Stewart despite their differing political beliefs because they respected each other and respected each other's opinions. These days, being conservative in Hollywood is like a death sentence, if they ever find out your a conservative in Hollywood, you can kiss your career goodbye.
I dont like either side and i treat everyone with respect and yes your right about Hollywood but nowadays it extends to everyday life.I'm from Florida but got stuck in the northeast for 6 months and the extreme hatred i seen there was so bad i couldn't live there for all the money in the world it was just ridiculous.I was miserable the whole time and couldn't wait to go.

@Leo Peridot ... I was about to say the same thing about people faking their beliefs in order to obtain power. What im sure of is that anyone who claim to be a "conservative" or "liberal" in these times is just delusional, there is no such thing anymore. People in power work for the same party. The party of bread and games.
I don't trust Oliver Stone to speak on the subject of History...or reality, for that matter. Tho I do admire his filmmaking skills.

I do have a problem with how a bunch of fools weep for the likes of Dalton Trumbo and completely ignore the influence of American Communists in 1930's Hollywood. Here's one for you, why don't you look up how Hollywood in general and Trumbo in particular looked at American neutrality in relation to the Soviet-German Pact? I'll wait.
I also have a problem because good old Ollie follows the usual tactic of conflating bullying, asshole Joe McCarthy with what happened to dear old Dalton Trumbo.
Dalton Trumbo met his fate with the House Un-American Activities Commission. In case you never learned this, not a lot of US Senators served on a House Committee. But you knew that.

Sure, you are allowed to disagree with the politics of Trumbo and the American communists in 1930s Hollywood, but to suggest that they should be imprisoned for having views different to yourself is just wrong.
Trumbo didn't call for a revolution or an uprising against the American government (unlike another political movements that is currently ongoing). Please be my guest and justify their actions, whilst simultaneously attacking peaceful political discourse.

Oliver Stone made Jim Morrison look like a coked-out obnoxious drunk you'd want to escape in a dive bar.Seek out the real Jim Morrison & his films HWY& Feast Of Friends.Being a "rock star" was his day job......
Worse, he made the extremely corrupt New Orleans D.A. Jim Garrison into a Capraesque hero. The real Garrison saw the Kennedy assassination as a "homosexual thrill killing" and scapegoated/persecuted a gay businessesman who had no involvement in the assassination plot. I wish someone would make a movie based on the real story of the Clay Shaw trial.

The truth of time and history is the truth. How can you share the stories of history of the past and not see your part in repeating it? Despite the historic perspective given at the time, they still have value. The problem comes when in viewing these films there’s no honest personal reflection on where the individual is in historical context.

Oliver stone and Charlton heston are not far apart. Conspiracy theories and so called western values. 🤔 Robert Toplin has written great historical books. I'd rather listen to the real historian than celebrities.

All of the interviews in this video are old, you can tell by the camera quality and the ages of the interviewees. If this video is proof TCM is woke, they've been that way for a while.
What century do you think this is & which 1 are you typing from? Do you know what UDHR is & how many millions died, when, where & why for it to happen? Or do you miss the good ol' days of genocides>"woke"?

Interesting audience TCM has these days, or does anything to do with Hollywood attract trolls? Specifically, "woke" bad, right wing politics good. I must be an outlier, I come here for the talent & the escapism.
