please if at all possible can you tell the brothers thank you I got to see his dad in person years ago, and it was a great show got to meet him for a few minutes and I wonder what happened to his guitar did it go down in flames in the plane
Having only been born in 1964 I didn’t know much about Rick Nelson outside of a couple of his songs. I have to say that having learned more about him recently I have great respect for him as an artist and as an individual. Thanks!!
Gunnar is such a nice guy! My Daughter and I got to meet and talk with him around 2003 in Florida. He actually took the time to have an awesome conversation with him. I started out telling him I was a huge fan of his Pops (I am just a few years older than G&M.), he smiled so big & our conversation began. I was able to get a picture with both Gunnar & Matthew, they were great (I no longer have 😢). He was so genuine, so kind & he "thanked me" for the conversation about his Pops. I have been huge fans of Gunnar & Matthew ever since!!! One of my 'Treasured' memories!!! ❤
Gunnar is so smart, articulate, interesting and takes the listener on pleasant trips and travels on any story he decides to share. This man can talk for hours and is never boring. He should do audio books of his life and history of his legendary family. This would be awesome.
I luv Mathew & Gunnar, I have seen them perform live twice , I just saw them in Wabash , Indiana at the Eagles Theater a few days ago and I hadn't seen them for 20 years or more , they sounded great and I love hearing them tell stories from their life. I was born a year before them and I have been listening to them since they first started. I of course have watched Ozzie & Harriet and their dad , the one song that stands out that their dad made was "Garden Party" I remember hearing it on the radio when I was a young girl and singing along :) Ricky was definitely a handsome man but so are Mathew & Gunnar ! Mathew & Gunnar have come from a great family & they have had such an awesome experience with growing up with all these musicians, they have so many cool stories to tell , they need to write a book , I would luv to read it ! I have always loved reading biographies about interesting people's lives ! I have the Michael Jackson "Off The Wall" record album, I also have the "Thriller" album , I also have the very first album Michael made with his brothers, it is called "Dianna presents The Jacksons" my best friend found it at a flea market years ago and she gave it to me for my birthday along with another Jackson's album. I also like Fleetwood Mac & Stevie Nicks , I liked most of the albums he held up. I love the Beatles and I have an old Wings album . I like all the Beatles members , they are all cool, hard to say who is my favorite! I am kind of Partial to Paul but I think they were all special , Ringo is a great drummer & funny ! Paul is a great singer & musician, George Harrison seemed like a great guy , a peaceful guy , John had his own great music , a peaceful guy too !
I love you both now Gunnar and Matthew Nelson , !!! Love your music, and Love how you represent your Father !! He was an honorable man , RICKY was loved by all the people !!! Your Dad was #1 for many weeks on the “HITPARADE “ in Germany when I was a kid , but loved Music from early on , still do !!
Yeah NELSON, 😮you came from a great family and still keeping it alive. From Ozzie down to Matt and gunner, so excited when I find all of you on my iPad.
Thank you Gunner and Matthew for not letting your dad's music go away. I love all the old time singers back when your dad was popular and even before that ❤❤❤😊😊😊
Two of my friends and I went to see your Dad in concert at the rodeo arena (sawdust and all!) at out MidSouth Fair here in the Memphis area. That was about 1957-58. We will never forget that. Had seats on the second row! On the way to the concert we were talked and said we would not scream. Well, so much for that! We screamed so much that we were hoarse by the time our parents picked us up. It was a day to remember. All we could talk about was his dreamy blue eyes and his sweet lips! It’s so wonderful that you guys have continued to keep the music alive. I hope one day that y’all will one day come this way and perform in concert. I have a bunch of your dad’s hits on my playlist. One I’d never heard, I fell in love with, Since I Don’t Have You! Boy, he crushed those high notes! Miss him so much. Keep up the good work! Love your story telling! You are so in-Hollywood. Wonderful to see and hear.❤❤🎉🎉
Great show. My Dad worked at the studio and used to toss a football around with Ricky when he wasn’t needed on set. I’m 70 and I’m a Rick Fan. I’ve seen him 7 times. I was also at the Trubadour when Rick played there. Best concert ever I met Mat & Gunner in Canyonville Oregon at the Indian Gambling & Concert Center on the early 90’s I believe. The guys put on an incredible show. The whole audience was blown away. They stayed to sign every autograph that was wanted. Please just keep touring 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Despite Rick's extraordinary pre-Beatles success. it became popular to deride him in the early 1970s, with the arrival of the 1st Rock 'n Roll revival. While Rick had changed with the times. it was hard to shake his clean cut, wholesome, All-American, 1950's image, which had fallen out of favour with the rock music buying public. People also pointed to his limited vocal range, mediocre guitar skills and limited song writing but there was a bigger underlying factor. People now resented his overnight success. They preferred their musical heroes to be working class people who clawed their way up from the bottom, playing countless low paying gigs and making endless rounds of the record companies. Rick was the exact opposite of this, coming from a successful show business family and his father negotiating a record deal with him having zero prior pro music experience. His first record was promoted on a hit television show and turned him into an instant R'nR star. Basically, the mass market, now resented what they perceived as a mediocre talent, being handed fame and fortune on a silver platter. In hindsight, he wasn't much different than the The Monkees, another successful act that rock pundits were quick to deride as the Prefab Four. Furthermore, he was often cited as the prototype for much of what was bad with music at the time, the rise of the teenage idols such as the Frankie Avalon, Fabian, Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy, Davey Jones, etc. Unfortunately, this attitude toward Rick's music still exists, even to-day. For the most part, this criticism is largely that of an ignorant public who has never taken the time to sit down and listen to Rick's old records. Most are making assumptions or simply regurgitating the preachings of rock snobs. The professional musicians and friends that knew Rick well, realized that he put everything into his music and many regarded him highly. Whatever vocal and guitar playing shortcomings he may have had, he made the best use of them and more than compensated with impeccable song choice, excellent selection of backing musicians and vocalists, great arrangements, great production and promotion that was ahead of its time. Slowly, people are beginning to see the light and appreciate the true musical genius of Rick Nelson. In my opinion, he deserves to be held in the same esteem as other seminal R'nR acts, such as Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent.
It was great listening to you Gunnar. Loved hearing the backstory. You two are go getters for sure. You both have great passion and enthusiasm in your field. Keep on 🎶
As a fan of Ricky Nelson since about 1962, I can't help but being a fan of Matthew and Gunnar. Two extremely talented guys with morals and respect for their fans. You don't see them all over the stupid tabloids with negative stories about them or involved in the Hollywood bull shit. Keep on keepin' on Matthew and Gunnar and Rock until ya drop!!!
When Ricky Nelson was a young guy, he played the role of sarcastic little brother and he was the funniest thing on television. And this TWIN really knows his stuff. Country Rock was greatly created and affected by Ricky, just as rock and roll was, in the start. And YES I HAVE THAT TROUBADOR ALBUM and have, for years!!! Hard to beat a band with Tom Brumley blowing an enormous steel ride on "Hello Mary Lou." And Randy Meisner on the most beautiful high harmony, the industry ever heard. And at 77 and a guitarist of 63 years, I am glad to say that The Nelson Family wonderfully entertained me for a doggone long time. And yeh, my folks divorced in 1963 when only Hollywood got divorced. Life ain't easy. Thank the Lord Jesus for the gift of music and guitars. And I have that video tribute to Ricky. Here's my contribution to the music industry that was completely ignored! David Griggs on songwriting and vocals ... I produced, engineered, played all the guitar parts and synthesizer parts ... what a blast in my brother's Tallahassee studio! th-cam.com/video/9cQWrXxbAfw/w-d-xo.html Still brings tears to my eyes, right out of 1974. Fleetwood Mac played Florida State around that time. I worked in my brother's music store, Norton Music and that Saturday, we had a store full of people and both phone lines ringing ... John McVie came in and I met him at the end of the counter ... he asked me if we had any Rotosound bass strings, and I had to tell him that we had just sold out! Didn't even have time to say anything else to him ... a surreal day that was. And I've had Stevie and Lindsay's album since it was first out. I knew about Bob Dylan from the backs of Peter Paul and Mary albums before anybody knew who Bob Dylan was. I heard "Lynyrd Skynyrd" in there, as I sit here in Jacksonville ... Burt Reynolds ... an FSU grad and football star! This interview was a great fun time!
I used to watch Ozzie and Harriet when Ricky and David were on it. I loved Ricky and couldn't wait for him to sing at the end of the show. But I was also a fan of Elvis and I loved them both and still do even though they are both gone. Gunner and Matthew looks like their momma with their dads smile. Sam looks like his Dad. I don't believe for a second that Rick was free basing on that plain.
At about 45 seconds into the video Gunnar made me see Rick with a simple facial expression. It was comforting to know that small parts of us will live on in our children. My daughter has something that reminds everyone of me also. Thanks for that, it made my day. Greg
I know! He always did look more like Rick. Matt takes after Kris, which is weird for identical, mirror twins. It happens, though. Andy Williams has twin nephews. One looks like their mom, and one looks like their aunt.
The history that gunner has put out there is unbelievable. I’m roughly the same age as you and I find your information in invaluable and so interesting everything you said here I couldn’t stop listening. And then the two people that you and Matt have become are remarkable and I’m so impressed with who you guys are and how you stay true but to the point that you’re even better people than musicians is something to be very proud of! And those two songs I forgot how much I loved them, but I had to buy them and I listen to them every day now!
What a great interview!! I grew up with the whole Nelson family on TV. It is great to see they are still entertaining. Thanks for memories and catching up with the boys. Wonderful. Wish them continued success on their own terms.
I’m late to the show! I’m 78, still listen to Rick Nelson. He was one of a kind and there will never be another! I found this interview so full of information I never knew. These kids truly have their dad’s talent and you can tell they listened to the great advice their dad gave them. I was extremely sad when one New Years Eve my husband and I were driving home from his local bands gig. Had the radio on and it was tragic. Still hate that night! But I’m so glad the boys are doing what they do. Keeping the great Rick Nelson going. Thank you for this video! I loved it!!❤
One of the most enjoyable videos I have seen...what a classy and down to earth guy. Grew up watching his father on TV....as all of my generation did...
You just loved this. Every word Gunner says I hang on to. I just love music and the entertainment industry ( pop culture ). So every thing he stays is the coolest info. I just love it like crazy. I will def be looking for more of his interviews. Thank you so much for this. Xxx
I was born in Germany, I was maybe 10 yrs old , had the biggest crush on RICKY NELSON !! Everyone in GERMANY knew his big Song : HELLO MARY LOU !! I know it was a number 1 hit in GERMANY !! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You guys are awesome I loved your Dad and so glad that you all keep your dad's memories alive he was a awesome man wished I could have met him but never did but I still cherish his music and movies love your music also your dad loved you guys I've heard him talk about you all on some of his interviews and his eyes would just light up been following your Dad since he was on Ozzie and Harriet I loved all the Nelson's may the ones that has passed on RIP keep up the good work and keeping your dad's memories alive ❤💙♥💜
God bless you Nelson boys! Thank you!!! I was three years old when I first saw your dad on T. V.! I saw him play at the Alameda county Fair in the 1980's. He was as good as any performer I have ever seen. A true professional and a great musician. And as your Uncle David once said, he's the nicest person I know, I believe it. Thanks for a great post!
I love NELSON! ♥️ They’re such great singers & songwriters! Loved them all...From Ozzie & his orchestra, to Rick & his band’s to these guys & Sam, too! I think Sam sounds most like his Dad! What a great family! Love Tracy in The Father Dowling Mysteries! Great memories! I thought Ricky & David were my age! 😂 No idea I was watching reruns, as we had black & white tv! I wanted them for brothers! Little did I know Tracy is older than i by a year! 😁 It’s Great to catch Matthews young boy playing drums...another generation! Imagine!? Amazingly talented family! ♥️🌹🌿🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I was at that concert at Madison Square Garden. I did not and would never boo Ricky!! I am so excited that in April, I will be on the Blue Cruise with a huge line-up including Matthew and Gunnar. I hope I get to talk to them and tell them that I was at the concert that inspired their Dad to write Garden Party!
Gunner I loved hearing your stories, growing up around all the musical greats, the musical history, you & Matthew are extremely talented, and look forward to seeing you Sunday night at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix (9/29/24). My third time catching you in concert! I’d love you to sign my copy of your dad’s Garden Party album!
I actually met these guys in 1999 at the Orange county Fair Costa Mesa. They signed a picture for me Love And Affection. I was with my sister. Then later on we went and saw them at the old Crazy Horse they had Steve McClintock as their guests. Chatted quite a bit at the meet and greet We took pics with them and they took pics with Dad as well. Matthew was married to Yvette at the time and Gunnar was single. 😘🥰😍🤩
First-hand from one of the MSG lighting crew who worked that show. The crowd wasn't booing Rick. A fight broke out, & when cops stepped in they were booed.
How cool to get that Boston Album for radio promo only! Wow! I still have mine Boston Albums! Loved that band! Gunnar on our left, dad center, Matthew on our right...with their dad from the Garden Party album! Cool they were all 33! Never knew that!
One of my favorite videos is a cover of Garden Party, which was done not just by Matthew and Gunnar, but Sam too. They each were featured, and they/it were BRILLANT!!!!
I loved the Nelson outfits and that they were styled with Native Anerican jewelry, back then I don't remember anyone rocking those looks and I appreciated it. Great Memories of my youth!
I love his personality!! My parents grew up watching Ozzie and Harriet, then of course Ricky Nelson's music. I grew up watching their sister Tracy Nelson on Square Pegs and then 90210, listening to their band Nelson ❤ Super talented family that has overcome a lot of tragedy.
I was 6 years younger than dad and I watched ozzie and harriet for years than one day in April 1966 I tuned in to see the show and batman was on instead sad very sad. But your grandpa was such a genius 7 years later ozzie invented ozzie girls. Great show but ozzie got sick after one season and died. That show would have lasted a long time too. All of the Nelson's are talented.
GUNNAR, YLU PROBABLY DON'T REMEMBER ME, BUT SEVERAL YEARS AGO, YOU AND MATTHEW PLAYED AT "AUTUMNFEST" IN WOONSOCKET, RHODE ISLAND. I WAS THE ONE THAT PICKED YOU UP AT THE AIRPORT AND SPENT SOME TIME WITH YOU BEFORE AND AFTER THAT SHOW ON SATURDAY NIGHT. IT WAS GREAT, LOVED YOUR SHOW. JOE JOHNSTON

I can now die in rock n roll heaven and I know where I’m going. Bless you.
I love the twins so much, I've been a fan since the beginning, and I still am. God bless you both.

There weren't many pioneers of Rock n Roll ....but Ricky Nelson was one ....
Yessir. I was there listening when "Poor Little Fool" and "Lonesome Town" were on the radio for the first time.
Gunnar Rocks-what a beautiful person-inside and out ♥️🌻🙌🇦🇺⭐️
Ricky Nelson left a beautiful memories in his wonderful children I'm soo proud of them all well done guys we love u all
Having only been born in 1964 I didn’t know much about Rick Nelson outside of a couple of his songs. I have to say that having learned more about him recently I have great respect for him as an artist and as an individual. Thanks!!
This is awesome I’m glad Gunner said things that I always thought were true like how Ricky was shy and quiet
Yet ... Was the funniest person on television, along with the kid on "Make Room For Daddy."
You just gotta love Gunnar. 🎉Love that Nelson politeness, unassuming, not entitled, grateful and real. God bless ‘em.
What a great interview. Gunnar has so much knowledge and experience in the music field and is so articulate and enthusiastic about sharing it.
Gunnar and Matthew are amazing human beings. I love their music and I love them. Much continued success and blessings to both of them
Gunnar is so down-to-earth. He grew up with great privilege but you would never know because he is very genuine and real. Love listening to him talk.
Gunnar is so smart, articulate, interesting and takes the listener on pleasant trips and travels on any story he decides to share. This man can talk for hours and is never boring. He should do audio books of his life and history of his legendary family. This would be awesome.

Love hearing your stories Gunnar ❤️
What a record collection Gunnar must have. The albums he showed 🔥
Such a fun interview .. with lots of tidbits ... the elevator story was definitely my favorite ..
Thank you for watching
Had the pleasure of seeing Rick and the SCB in early 80s in Portland Oregon,Great show such a talented guy!
Love this so much! Hope to see Gunnar again! Great stories!
I got The Garden Party Record right After Ricky Made It . I was 13 and it was Cool😃
This is the coolest interview.
they mostly look like their mom. a good looking family. and very talented as well.
She was a beauty and Rick was handsome too
This guy is wonderfully articulate 😊
I actually met these guys in 1999 at the Orange county Fair Costa Mesa. They signed a picture for me Love And Affection. I was with my sister. Then later on we went and saw them at the old Crazy Horse they had Steve McClintock as their guests. Chatted quite a bit at the meet and greet We took pics with them and they took pics with Dad as well. Matthew was married to Yvette at the time and Gunnar was single. 😘🥰😍🤩
Love listening to him
Loved this show. Could not leave it at all.
Professor Gunnar strikes again. He's quite the historian, quite the communicator. (11min lol "yeah I talk a lot ..")

First-hand from one of the MSG lighting crew who worked that show.
The crowd wasn't booing Rick. A fight broke out, & when cops stepped in they were booed.

As much as Gunnar and Matt look like their Mom, you can really see Ozzie’s features in Gunnar…cheekbones, eyes and mouth

wish Gunner would write a book
I loved the Nelson outfits and that they were styled with Native Anerican jewelry, back then I don't remember anyone rocking those looks and I appreciated it. Great Memories of my youth!
Glad you enjoyed this episode! As always please hit that bell to be notified so you don’t miss out on any great interviews!
This interview is fantastic. 👍
Thanks for watching
I was 6 years younger than dad and I watched ozzie and harriet for years than one day in April 1966 I tuned in to see the show and batman was on instead sad very sad. But your grandpa was such a genius 7 years later ozzie invented ozzie girls. Great show but ozzie got sick after one season and died. That show would have lasted a long time too. All of the Nelson's are talented.
Twins are great! But SAM is the guy who sounds exactly like his dad... incredible.
I enjoyed this interview so much!
thanks Gunner got to see your dad years ago great show
