It didn’t have an identity and SR3 established that wacky and weird is what works for the series. (The sales of that game clearly reflect this). SR 2022 is still a gangster game but not in the same vein as it started out as. Robbing people and places for money? That’s gangster. Hijacking a car or a plane with people in it? That’s gangster. Fighting a paramilitary corporation and the police task force and coming out alive? That’s gangster. Saving your buddies from a guy who literally tried to kill you and take everything you built up from nothing? That’s gangster. The gangster mentality is still there, but remade for a new generation. The clothes you wear doesn’t define what a gangster does, it’s the shit they do that defines that. Walter White from breaking bad doesn’t look like a typical gangster but he does all the crazy shit gangsters are known for doing. Because he doesn’t look intimidating it throws his enemies for a loop until he does something that puts them on high alert. It’s the same concept here.
