This guy would make a great decepticon, which would make Soundwave jealous.
Thanks for watching!
Takara or Hasbro probably did look at this in the day. I have a feeling that they looked at the way the head was and passed on it. Awesome find and video! I'd never heard of this til now.
Thanks for watching!
And then, almost 40 years later, that's how the head transforms on that power bank Optimus figure.
Great review on the REAL Sound Wave!!!!!
LOL!
Thanks for watching!
Great review, Bert. I like seeing some of these off brand vintage figures getting a little bit of love these day. Many of them are every bit as good as anything from the G1 Transformers line. Cheers M
Your video inspired me to look for this guy and get him back in my collection! I want to connect with you offline so we can discuss other Radio Bots :D
Thanks for watching!
I saw the thumbnail and couldnt believe you found one. Its great! I loved that thing as a kid
I was SO HAPPY to find a working copy in such good condition! Good memories!
Thanks for watching!
Love it. I have this as well from my childhood, and it still works. It is one of the very few figures that survived undamaged from the fire that destroyed all my G1 Transformers and Star Wars toys from my youth.
Sorry to hear about the fire, that's awful.
Thanks for watching
I miss electronics in a robot. Great review Bert.
Thanks for watching!
Been wanting to see a review of this sucker for quite a while. That's one of the most bizarre head reveals ever.
It really is!
@@BertTheStormtrooper His head transforms like that big spiky robot guard in Labyrinth.
@@AlexReynard OMG you're so right! Can't believe I didn't put that together! :D
What a cool little figure!
Thanks for watching!
My grandmother bought that for me. I have no clue at all what happened to it.
One thing I always hated about toys that had a radio back in the day, AM! Why did they always use AM?!
LOL right???
FM would have required antenna though so maybe that had something to do with the decision?
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper AM Radio circuitry is also far simpler to build given the signal is way lower in frequency and is therefore easier to decode.
@@TheLazyEyebrow True. I also just found out that the version I mentioned that had the antenna is indeed an FM radio. I just got another transforming radio-bot, a licensed one, and this one is FM and has an antenna as well.
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper oooooo company pulling out the big guns for them radios haha
@@TheLazyEyebrow LOL
Great review of this classic oddity. I have him with his axe the other larger versions of him came with a blaster or sword with the axe. Surprisingly mine picks up alot of am stations here in south Fl but its mostly politics, sports, or classical music. I have another similar but different radio robot thats a different blue from Argentina but always liked this one more.
That one from Argentina is really cool too. I have the red/black version of it and will be doing a review of it very soon!
Thanks for watching!
A friend had an oversized working version of sound wave, or so he said. I can't confirm that since I didn't know him when we were kids but he didn't make stuff up that I know of. Great video as always Bert.🤘😎🤘
He's probably referring to the little known, actual, cassette playing Soundwave. I've only recently found out about it and it's not cheap to get now LOL!
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper oh cool so it was a real thing, good to know my friend wasn't full of it. Lol
@@danielspencer582 it was a giant brick, different than the transforming soundwave. Its more like a cube with a face tacked on. Still cool though.
this was such a fascinating review
Thanks! It's so cool to finally get this guy BACK in my collection, a very cool piece of my childhood indeed.
Thanks for watching!
Well, that is a pretty sweet piece of transformin' robot history there!
Thanks for watching!
Great review Bert ! This guy is pretty interesting. Maybe they'll remake him some day with a mp3 player built in and Bluetooth capabilities.
That would be pretty cool but I don't know that the company that made this still exists.
Thanks for watching!
My mom purchased this for me at a store called "Winner Toy & Hobby" that was a store run by a Chinese guy in a local strip mall. I know he sold a lot of bootleg stuff (like bootleg Lionbot and what I am pretty sure was a bootleg G1 Optimus) and she picked this up for me one day thinking it was the Soundwave that I was looking for.
It was cool. Not a Transformer, but still cool. The one to really look out for is the version that had FM. The one you review is the most common (and the same one I had) and only had AM radio. Good enough to listen to those oldies however ;)
I've seen the FM version as well but have refrained from getting it since I already have this one. I do have the Transformers Licensed Robot Radio and that one is FM. I'll be reviewing it very soon!
Thanks for watching!
I just got this its awesome and works great. but it has a different face then the one you have and the others that I've seen. I cant find one with the face that I have.
Interesting. Can you share a picture?
Thanks for watching
Pretty freakin cool......didnt know about this guy. Thanks for posting, man.
Thanks for watching!
I knew a kid in elementary school in 84 or 85. He was kind of the rich kid. But I do definitely remember it being a real radio, and I know he was Grey or silver.
Nice!
Thanks for watching!
I have this but it's a Car, and I can't find any information on it?
???
Gobots?
Hello I'm new to your channel I really enjoyed this video I just got my robotic radio just today keep up the great work
Welcome and thanks for watching!
I hope you enjoy my content!
...would the axe stick in the antenna port, do you think?
I'm very much into the idea of 'Just because they didn't *intend* a place for the accessories doesn't mean there *isn't* a place for the accessories'. I eventually found a place to store Octane's tailfin in truck mode.
I know what you mean but no, that won't fit :D
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper Curses!
This thing is great! Great Review!
I think that he *kinda* looks like Straxxus from the G1 comic...but only in the 'squint and look' kinda way. But then again, most G1 art vs. toy needed a good bit of that...
Thanks for watching!
Good toy for me. It would be cool if he becomes a transformer in the future.
I mean there is a chance that he could become one
Thanks for watching!
I got one of these from a thrift shop for 5 dollars he was missing the battery cover and head and weapon
That's a great find!
Thanks for watching!
No way it’s actually a real boom box how much is this I need this!!...
"Working boombox" may be a bit of a stretch... I'd say wait till you watch the review first ;D
@@BertTheStormtrooper I did now lol but hey at least you got some country music outta it..
Really interesting figure. The boxart, with the axe, and the way the face is hard to see, reminds me a lot of Straxus from the Marvel comics, but only in quick passing. Great review, as always, and keep up the good work, bro. =P
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper But of course! =P
weird antenna but adorable figure. also Dr Wu's DW-E04 Prime Commander is OUT NOW for around 30 USD!! Mini G1 Prime + trailer
Sweet, thanks for the heads up!
Who has it? Everyone I'm looking at still has it on pre-order except for Ebay from China
@@BertTheStormtrooper show z has it mine is on the way
@@BertTheStormtrooper ShowZ is available now. My copy shipped. Try them
That thing is amazing!
Agreed!

Thew adams got one of these in one of his damnit open videos.he didn’t know what it was from and couldn’t figure out the head
Thanks for watching
Which one? And I guess someone should send Thew this video to help him out.
@@kaylemathewcomendador6964 it was from a few years ago I’m sure he knows what it is by now.
His face looks like my old teacher
LOL!
