@@Upnorth_overland Anytime I’ve been stuck hasn’t been anyone around to help. But I have been looking at these kinetic ropes. I went ahead and ordered one of the USA ropes and a pair of heavy duty soft shackles I’m going to use instead of the d shackles I have. They got at least one sale from the video.
@@drewolm great! The only downside to the ropes is that you need another vehicle. But with a winch you need something to anchor to. Nothing is perfect, and each has a use. You’ll love the USA gear!
I dont like the placement of that soft shackle. Id much rather have a dring that mounts to the hitch receiver. Sure it might be more metal but its metal that is made and rated for that specific purpose unlike the spot you are using which are made for safety chains. The same way that you talked about a hitch ball I am thinking about that thin piece of metal.
I hear what you’re saying. I can’t speak for every vehicle, but on my truck it’s made of the same metal as the hitch receiver and attaches to the frame in the same spot. If you broke the safety chain spot, you would have also done catastrophic damage to the hitch.

I’m a full size rig guy. That and after hearing your comments around the 2 minute mark I have to sub the channel.
Glad to have you! Hopefully you find lots of videos helpful and inspirational.

Hitch balls are not dangerous. There's a reason why they have been the standard towing connection for the last 100 years.
They are designed for towing, not recovery. When you do a snatch recovery you can/will easily surpass the rated capacity of the ball.
Great tips on this video. Thanks for sharing 👍 do you have any winter camping trips coming up.
I wasn’t planning one, I usually avoid winter camping. I could probably get all of my tips together though.

@Upnorth_overland it's the same type of metal but not the same quantity and shape. The shear strength is just not the same.
