like that busbar idea and how u connect them together ;) the cable sleves i like alot. they hide the uggliest cablest and make it tidy. for the contacts between packs. if u think the distance is to much in between use copper pipe. i have done that in another install where the packs where to far apart and didnt want to bend the busbars.
Now I have to agree this will be covered in next video that's in production atm. Was going for double fuses but the stronger wire on one end adds to the strength of the whole pack. So it's one of those tradeoffs I thinks.

Is there a video anywhere where you discuss why you chose to parallel many batteries, then series them, rather than putting many in series and then paralleling the result?
A BMS is essential for a large battery bank. Of course there are people who are yelling "If you have good healthy and balanced cells you don't need a BMS and/or a balancing". But you know what? The battery system on the International Space Station has also a BMS who does balancing, and these guys know what they doing. Go figure ;)

Interesting. I'm looking at building just a 4S 12v package lifepo4 system and am in the research phase of things. I'll have to start digging into the Batrium docs if I can find them. That site needs a technical writer!
The BMS will balance the cells to any configured value, there are also options for it to remote throttle the inverter/charger regulating the power in to the cells. If desired another feature can be enabled to have the cells adjust to a matching voltage not just at the target top of charge level when the pack is idle.
can you do a video demonstrating this... how you go about finding failed cells in the 80 cell packs after you suspect the total capacity is low (or perhaps you already have)?
Your big lug crimps, here is a way to test you have a good crimp, so make up a test crimp the same way you connect up a battery crimp and cut it in half across the connection, and it should be solid in the centre with no air voids, that means your squeezing the crimp with the correct amount of copper in the lug, and your crimping tool is working correctly with the correct amount of hydraulic pressure to the lug
okay so how can i calculate that max amp for each cell ? i have a 60 v 20a battery and my bike's controller nominal load 20a and peak load is 40a. İf u answer i would be happy.

+MrBugsier5 it was balancing at 1.75 a for 14 plus hours :) didn't go above 4.2v so guess it's ok for now. Time will tell for sure. Might change with 100amps of charging :)
max is 2amps better than the 40ma balance 200amp max bms I've got before! Once balanced how much time per day do you think they'll be balancing for - 10 min - 1/2 an hour is about all it'll need across the whole pack I thinks... Well, I hope!
+HBPowerwall That would be my concern too, that the BMS looks a bit light - a situation could arise where it doesn't have enough oomph to pull a stray pack back into line, but as you say, 2A is better than 40mA! It'll be interesting to see how it gets on, and I'm sure you'll soon notice if it struggles to keep up! :-)
Hell yes, I'll notice (has 10 years data logging) then I'll video it and upload - But if you look at the way chargers work - top of charge they ramp right down my PCM60X is about 2-5a when approaching the top of the charge. This is all learning - Current settings I have it set to 4.1v and soon be changing to 4.0 volts per cell so still have 0.2v for buffer
the issue is more with the totally inadequate charger I'm using that isn't really up to the job. That and cell one was almost a volt different than the other two.. making the workload on the Longmon a little heavier than usual
Way better than the 0.04 amp the ebay BMSs are limited to. As pete says elsewhere in the discussion, max for this BMS is 2A. What's the current on the 12V charger your using Pete ?
You really should of gone the extra mile and re-wrapped those batteries, it would have taken you mins and not only would they look better but you get a better inspection of the battery... often dents and other undesirables are well hidden. Also... would had been better, safer and faster to weld the joints using a cheap pulse welder. Just my 2 cents.

Cheaper shrink wrap try using two liter bottles they are stronger and more secure.
Hope you can go over the advantages and disadvantages of using a BMS. That's my main dilemma right now.

like a pcb with spring's like those on a stator. in a motor alternator or dynamo.
with this concept you could easily remove poor performing batteries with just a few to pop them out.

It does :) As well as a whole lot more. Cold climate, have an EV and your batteries are cold Just ask the BMS to pre-warm them :)

have you had to refurbish one of your 80 cell packs yet (due to a drop in total cell capacity)?
Several, because I'm out of space I'm replacing or upgrading packs to bring the overall quality up

How many amps may be draining from each cell? Are those thin wires enough for that?
at max load 80amps on 30kWh pack it's 0.333 amps per 'cell' Those wires are more than enough :)
whats your fuses' wire thickness ? And do you calculate fuses thickness for a single cell ?

How many wires are you twisting together for your buss bars?
I use the positive and active cables with in 4mm2 240v cable
It's simple but expansive and losing energy for hot. Better idea is active balancer. Good luck.
You clearly haven't looked at how much energy an active balance uses to do it's job.. You might change you're tune when you actually check.

Rewrap not required, extra expense and time i can do without. Have a cheap spot welder it doesn't work :)
