The aliens question is so good. It's engaging and fun enough for Magnus to engage with, and I'm glad we got a serious answer out of Magnus because this is very good advice for playing online against random opponents. In a situation where you have no idea how strong your opponent is, it's better to play an opening that is slow and safer to give you the ability to see how strong your opponent is, or what their preferred opening is so that you can steer away from it.

Not to be an armchair psychiatrist (let me be one real quick), but I think the reason people like Magnus - that are at the astonishing top of their game in whatever sport or field they find themselves in - can stay sane and not develop destructive or well, odd behaviors is because they weren't shunned in their childhood over their obsessions. Both parents and other early environments are often guilty over pointing out that stuff out and trying to isolate it. I shouldn't assume this about people I don't actually know personally, but I get the feeling that Magnus' parents were extremely supportive. Not only when it comes to letting his genius run wild and free but also his personal growth in other areas, not excessively pushing or trying to control it. It warms my heart to see this guy radiate that
Vasyl Ivanchuk. Although not in an insane, bad way. But, Ivanchuk always has been... loopy. Again, in a good way. He just has this weird mind, goes all sorts of places. As his peers have said of him more than once over the years... _He lives on Planet Ivanchuk._
7:03 this is very true, I don't think anyone in the world thinks Ding Liren is worthy of playing the match for the world championship title right now, if it was a fair system he wouldn't come close to this match, so yes he has an advantage because of winning the title (luckily?) two years ago.

yes, the best of the best are often made in favorable conditions, although not always. shouldnt be too surprising
