@@andros4323A mini PC is a great option for night guards because it offers a convenient way to stay entertained during long, quiet shifts. Plus, its small size makes it easy to carry around and set up, so you won't have to worry about lugging around a heavy laptop or desktop computer. Overall, a mini PC is a great investment for anyone who wants to stay entertained and productive during those long nights on the job
My 2008 Acer Aspire One with the Atom chip runs LMDE the 32bit linux mint debian edition in 2024. It's dedicated to ham radio use only, but I still love that form factor. I was able to get a new battery pack for it a couple of years ago, otherwise it is still stock hardware.
I can actually see a use case for this device from somebody that Uses a Tablet with a Keyboard for work. The problem with the tablet is that it doesn't run Windows apps which 2 I need for work sometimes. I don't like using my Laptop because it is overkill most of the time, and it dies quickly when not plugged in and its one drop away from being damaged at any time, whereas the tablet can withstand being bumped around more like a Phone. This mini laptop looks like it solves all those issues
I am surprised we are not seeing more "mini" netbook style snapdragon devices that are in this form factor. I suppose snapdragon was looking to/ more interested in competing in the 14-16" market.
Instead of an Intel or an AMD CPU, it would be interesting to see an ARM CPU with Windows 11. As a mini netbook, it won't need a LOT of processing power. Instead, an ARM CPU could help boost battery life and run cooler.
Reminds me to my manager calculator's I used to own in the 90s capable of storing phone numbers and notes, exchanges and calculations and basic tasks with their astonishing 32/64/128kb memory.❤ This could be cool to run Linux on.
Welcome back netbooks, but now the hardware has matured so it doesn't feel terrible to use. The only thing I wished it had was a 2280 m.2 slot, but I can totally understand it has size constraints.
I always test Mario Kart 8 Deluxe running on Yuzu. For weaker systems, you can set the graphic renderer to be "Software" in PCSX2 to make PS2 games run smoothly.
This is a REALLY REALLY nice design, great choice for the backlit keyboard 👍 There's a big number of people who'd be interested in this IF IT'S LINUX compatible !!
Return of the netbook. Not seeing the value at the pricepoint for such a niche product. I'd gladly take one as a gift but it would likely just get thrown in the closet with my Asus eee pc from 20 years ago (which kept my interest for a hot minute). I would definitely swap out Windows for Zorin or LMDE tho. Turn it into a poorman's Steamdeck. (If I'm not mistaken, my old Asus eee pc came with Linux.)
Those low power chips are actually pretty good. Not meant for gaming, but they do everything else very nicely. This is quite a nice model mini laptop or a tablet with a keyboard. It would probably run Android also.
Please test linux on all of your devices. You could unlock a whole new audience. Just 2 extra minutes at the end of the video would be very satisfying 🙏
Great review. It reminds me that I have an older version of this laptop. It has an Intel Pentium Silver n5000 cpu, 4GB RAM, Intel UHD605 graphics built-in, 128GB eMMC storage, and ran Windows 10, which I upgraded to Windows 11. It also had a slot for m.2 2230 SSD expansion, but it was a SATA slot instead of PCIe. I managed to get at least a 1TB SSD in it. The laptop runs decently for day to day use, but it's a no-go for 3D gaming. I'm surprised it can run OBS and a lightweight NLE like kdenLive, but that's as far as I'm willing to push it. I'm glad to see the RAM bump on the newer model, but the CPU is still the major bottle neck. I do wish the manufacturer considered a better CPU, but that might be at the cost of thermals and power consumption.
This reminds me of my old MSI Wind U100 but that even in 2009 the limits of 1GB of ram and 140GB 5400 RPM spinning hard drive were a bit rough. Windows 7 Starter was very slow, MacOS Snow Leopard was better but Hackintosh compatibility was always hot and miss so I ended up running Crunchbang Linux on it.
or just buy a steam deck which will do a much better job (and can run windows if you want) or Rog Ally with windows from the outset. without going to all that hassle.
That's really neet, and small probably too small for me. I have a tablet that is slightly larger at 7" x 10" and I would like to have a laptop slightly larger than that, maybe 11" or 12". I remember years ago the holy grail of notebook computers was 8.5" x 11" so it would fit in your briefcase just like a stack of paper. That was before universal use of Windows which lead to every laptop coming with a touchpad and that killed the 8.5" x 11" form factor. I wanted a text-based 8.5 x 11 for coding and never got one. Now I'm at a point where I prefer a 15" laptop because it's easier to see and I put up with the larger size.
I wouldve loved something like this back in college. I LOVED netbooks back in the day, that 10.1" form factor was amazing for college. Man I would love to have this now, but its not worth the money to have just for fun.
Same. Been making do with a small Bluetooth keyboard that’s the same width as the Go with controllers detached. It looks like the mini laptop shown here.
Perfect little 'cyberdeck' for the lazy(DIY is fun and all, but I don't want to get into 3d printing). Love the form factor, mouse trackpads waste so much space. Can always use a little wireless portable mouse. If this is cheap enough I'll certainly pick one up.
small warning on that, I have a laptop really similar to this, might be the same company making them. The screen on mine is a portrait display then rotated with the video driver, and that video driver only works on windows. So basically if you run linux on it you can't rotate the screen from a sideways view. Not saying that will happen for this one but just keep it in mind.
