  • Camper Introduction, Renault Trafic mk1 Pilote.
Since last time we have bought an old camper. It is from 1985 and has 53000 km on the meter.
Plan is to use it for a road trip over a couple of weeks up north.

Hi Jones, thank you for putting these videos, togehter. Very informative and I like the way you've panned over aspects that sometimes are just taken for granted like the fuel cap, under steering/dashboard area. flooring, etc. So, will be following your progress and curious to learn from your experience and adventures in your motorhome!
I've subscribed to your channel, sometime last year, when decided that wanted to get a Motorhome and the Renault Trafic Pilote was becoming a favorite. So after some research, this week, my girlfriend and I, just got one!
It is the Trafic 2.1 Diesel Pilote R320 from 1985). The layout is different from yours but exactly the same equipment and components and (guessing)electric, gas and water systems. Although it is in a pretty good shape, there isn't much in terms of manuals and am trying to work out what some of the functions/features are e.g. there is a handle under the dashboard (located in the middle towards the passenger side) which can be turned vertical/horizontal - maybe connected to battery...!? Does yours have this? Yes... you got it any manual/schematics/lists would be much appreciated.
I have not come across many Renault Traffic/Pilote combinations in real life here in UK. Seen lots of pictures online but not much in terms of actual info. Perhaps a little on french forums but not much! So far, you've been the closest I've got to a real-life experience on a Renault Traffic/Pilote combinations. Wondering if it ok to come back to you for knowledge/ experience.
I'm also wanting to install a solar panel, so would be good to know what is the spec for the ones you have and your feedback and tips on using solar.
Lots more to say but leave it there, for now, and go back to watching your videos and see if can find a fuse diagram...😊 Hallå from Brighton, UK

Congratulations on buying a nice van! I think you will love it. Let´s hope everything works as it should.
I think the combination is rare, I have seen another one exactly like mine here in Sweden but thats about it. Of course you can keep in touch, I´d love to help if I can. Regarding the van itself I found a UK based Facebook group. One of the members there is a (I think) retired Renault mechanic so he knows everything about the car.
I didn't get a manual when I bought mine but I found one on ebay that has all the schematics and detailed instructions. I will look it up, but I think it is an aftermarket "do it yourself" kind of book. Like the Haynes, but this is not them.
My solar panel is a mobile one, you keep it folded like a suitcase and i connect it directly to the batteries when I need it. It is a bit of work (because it is a bit heavy, probably 10 kg). I chose it over a regular one on the roof for two reasons. Number one it was/is cheaper and number two I can keep the car in the shade and put the solar panel in the sun. Also, since I live in Sweden usually the sun is a bit low so the ability to put the panel on the ground angled towards the sun is nice. And to be able to have the van parked in the shade is nice since there is of course no air conditioning in it :-)
I had the van in storage over the winter but I will get it out in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to see how it held up. I had no issues at all driving around 5000 km last year, but now it is time for the MOT (i think it´s called in the UK). Anyway, me and my fiancee took a trip from Gothenburg to Abisko (way up north) and all the way to southernmost part of Sweden and then back to Gothenburg. Everything worked, heating, water and so on. I even took a couple of warm showers, and we had it nice and warm inside even when temperatures outside were freezing (just below 0 Celsius).

Hi, thank you for taking the time to reply - much appreciated!
Yes, I also joined the UK group - and literally just found your post from back in 2021, when you first bought your van and share some pics. I was looking at your pics (without realizing it was your van) thinking finally I've found someone, in the Facebook group, with a Pilote...😂
Anyways, yes these guys really know about Traffic and have been amazing. I think the guy you mention lives 10 miles away from me(am in Brighton) - as am buying a fuel cap from him.
Also, I've found lots of documents in the file section of the group - which Is great! Yes, please, if you can share the manual or signpost me to where I can get hold of it - that would be great! Here's my email: soulfulimage@gmail.com
Also the details for the solar panel setup - am also considering getting ones that are mobile but have not started to look into them in detail.
Regarding the Pilote home. I love mine already - it is beautifully made! I have some questions and/or need to replace parts - but have to look for help elsewhere as that is beyond the Renault Trafic groups. However, an admin on the group suggested I should join a classic Pilote group. He did manage to find a Classic Pilote Facebook Group and sent me the link. I've requested to join but still waiting - they do not seem to be very active.
At the moment am trying to understand the home electric board, water and gas systems. The motorhome had not been used for years.
Also, the home has some window locks that need replacing - so am searching for a supplier, but no luck so far.
Good to find you on the Facebook group. You've done lots of work on the van - looks great!
      Thanks again :)
