- In my quest to fly all my helicopters one more time in my life, I decided to fly the big Align T Rex 600 that Charles Cline gifted me last year. I haven't flown it in a while, so here is what happened, why, and a test flight to see if it still works after I repaired it. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe and also hit that like button if you wouldn't mind. Thanks ~Dave
Hi Dave,
Glad you were able to get it repaired. I still have a Hobby King HK600 still in the box that is a clone of the Trex 600. In fact they had you download the Trex 600 assembly manual. You and Ilea stay safe and thank for your service.
Wow, a brand new one. That’s great to hear. I appreciate that a lot. Don and you stay well too. thanks kindly.
1:38 WTF??😮😮😮😮
2:37 Yeah I saw that same exact thing happen to a Trex 500 DFC regarding a Align ESC issue but it was with their BEC Dave.
Thankfully you and Ilea didn't get hurt glad to see you was able to get it up and flying again Dave👍😎👍
Those wires are a weak point on that align bec for sure but now I’m leaning to thinking it was more the servo wheel broke otherwise all the servos would’ve stopped moving where they were when cut off from electricity and not just dive into the ground. Thanks so kindly.
Dave , your scale flying is an absolute joy to watch , many thanks for the video 👍👍👍👍
Thanks so kindly. I appreciate you.
Dave ¡ Excellent diagnose and repair , you are a master
Thanks so very kindly. I appreciate you.
Teehee, "gravity impulse"! I must remember that one! 😂
✅👍
Well, at least we all know it was a mechanical/electrical failure & not pilot error! Thankya sir, for sharing!
Yes, and I’m leaning to thinking it was more the servo wheel broke otherwise all the servos would’ve stopped moving where they were when cut off from electricity. Thanks so kindly.
You're welcome & thanks for sharing! You sir are a TRUE legend! I can remember reading about ya back in the day with all the model r/c airplane magazines!
I appreciate you and thank you for being a long time viewer, especially if you read my Mag Articles. Thanks again and Happy flying.
Nice repair! The second flight was on rails!
Thanks so kindly. I appreciate you.
The way the main rotor starts so soft is great
Yes. Thank you.
My 550 has some spool-up time but not much- it's all-business. Have a 700 that's about the same.
You guys have really had some nice evening flying weather up there lately. I was so bummed to see it just nosedive like that. Glad you got it all fixed and flying right again. I really did enjoy flying that beautiful bird. Semper Fi.
John Boy 😂😂😂 I miss that little goober!
Thanks a lot Scott. Well, it’s all back together and ready to go again. I do also think that it was the serve a wield that broke otherwise if the power went off, the servos would all stayed the same and it would have just a flown away. I’ll say hello to Johnny for you and anyway thanks a lot and Semper Fi.
Very nice flying helicopter it looks awesome
Thanks very kindly.
im now going to check mine in more detail before i fly it again as i have the same bec, thanks for sharing and saving us from the same trouble
Yes, better safe than sorry that’s for sure. Check the wires on that BEC and make sure to look at that server which I think is what really happened when it broke. Thanks 🙏
@@NightFlyyer ok thanks i will check the servo's too, Cheers
You know your skills are improving when it's mechanical/electrical issues and not the stick movement lol. very nice.
Great job and great attitude! Man I really miss the days of flybar/single axis gyro stabilization, MinAir, Hirobo, TT, and so on and dealing with very real and wonderful enthusiasts at Rick's, HeliProz and so on. I don't fly anymore with the FBL era upon us and just never could adjust to the change in feel. Glad to see you enjoying yourself! Happy flying!
Thanks so very kindly. Happy flying.
So pleased you fixed it great job 👍👍
Me too, thanks kindly.
Wow that crash sure looked to be a whole lot worse than it actually turned out. That's some excellent work on getting that bird back in the air again, sir.
Yes, it’s sure could’ve been a lot worse and I’m leaning to thinking it was more the servo wheel broke otherwise all the servos would’ve stopped moving where they were when cut off from electricity and not just dive into the ground. Thanks so kindly.
Thanks for that FPV dinner roll! I did 2.5 loops with flybarless 500, and I just know I'd bury it, trying. But I'm dying how autorotation gear and main shaft weren't toast?!😳
They didn't because I did not have the 3d switch thrown, so when it headed down, I shut it off with the throttle stick faster than trying to get to the 3d switch. When that throttle is locked on full though and it hits, that is when the gears get eaten. Thanks.
@@NightFlyyer Man, I'd love to hear stories you doubtlessly have, where people have hounded you for help!
Thats annoying when it happens. I still have the same Align T-Rex 600 and havent flew it in years only one crash since i took it down before was too close of people watching nearby.. Was hovering upside down when had wrong input and drifted like 3m side and I just cut it off to avoid any harm to happen.. I have some videos like 16-17 years ago when im flying it but i've set em private. You also commented them. Thanks for your videos Herb.
For sure, it's annoying! Thanks so kindly!
Yep gravity will bite you in the butt but a good Marine knows how to fix that stuff..!
Oorah from der Bud
Right on bud. Semper Fi and thanks.
Trex 600 ESP is great Heli. My two scale helis are based on ESP mechanics. Good repair and succes flying 👍 Greetinggs
Thanks very kindly. I appreciate you.
I was not one bit interested in playing any "build it in" game, and figured a sweet fix! My heli teacher made a joke that I actually implemented, including with my custom 800 size Hind-24. Zippers!
Enjoyed the video but not the crash! It was good seeing you get it back in the air! Seen the picture of your kitty at the end of the video, so sorry if you lost him!!
Hey Doug, John Boy is new, and way too frisky to be dead, but I appreciate that. It was Sophie who passed. Thanks so kindly. I appreciate you.
@@NightFlyyer Sorry about Sophie! You are welcome! We appreciate you too!
Thank you, Mr Dave, for sharing another great video .
I probably would have given up on the helicopter after the crash .I also have an Opterra that I still need to maiden ,I'm thinking of a good hand toss and then add power ,my wife would be upset with me if my hobby bit me like your Opterra did.
Thank you, sir
Aubrey Alford
@@aubreyalford2029 I thought about it.....but it was not bad, and even I had the spare parts. I will be flying it again soon and seeing how it does stunts this time, so stay tuned. That Opterra.....be careful. Thanks Aubry.
what a strange accident!
For sure. Big surprise to me, but now sure the brittle elevator servo wheel was what cause it. Thanks.
just got nitro 600 and electronics hav failed twice fingers crossed sorted now just waiting to try it.gets expensive on the big birds lol. one of the crashes u can see on my channel . cheers good job on the repairs 😀
Yikes. I certainly can relate. I’m leaning to thinking it was more the servo wheel broke otherwise all the servos would’ve stopped moving where they were when cut off from electricity and not just dive into the ground but continue to fly straight. Thanks so kindly.
@@NightFlyyer my second nitro crash was the same as yours but it tipped back so u could think it was cyclic break but i know it was electric because the nimih batery had gone flat after using it for glow plug after crash it was down to 3 volt and receiver was showing loss of signal , i think u was correct with your electical step down unit breaking they are prety crap the servo wheel prob broke in crash. luckily u hav lots of helis.lol
@@arcturus2382 Bummer. I watched. Those wires are a weak point on that align bec for sure but now I’m leaning to thinking it was more the servo wheel broke otherwise all the servos would’ve stopped moving where they were when cut off from electricity and they would not have made it just dive into the ground. The motor would have quite, but it should have flown straight. The wires on the BEC were intermittent, but not sure that is what brought it down. Glad I wasn't doing any 3D. Thanks so kindly.
Had the same servo fail on my trex 450. I heard plastic dries out eventually and becomes brittle. My 450 was old too
@@444lumpy I am pretty sure that's what happened here too, in retrospect. Thanks much.
I have the same frame and converted it to DFC head getting rid of all the swash plate linkage. Flybarless. It's a direct fit for the servos in those square holes already there. No mods needed. Easy peasy!!!! LOVE that heli. Did my second and third auto rotation. Stripped a main gear on one, and had a deans connector come apart on a pitch pump on the other. No more deans for me. I still have the old flybar head and main shaft assembly I will send you for free if you like. I have no use for it anymore. Kinda looks like you have a bent feathering or main shaft after the repair. Mines never been crashed. Don't know how hard those parts are to find for you.
Well, I doubt at my age I want to go all thru that, but appreciate your offer. Can always use spare parts. I'll pay you for them. PO Box 153, Sibley, IA 51249. Thanks kindly.
@@NightFlyyer I sent it USPS snail mail. The box may not fit in a P.O. Box so check at the counter after about 7-10 days I think she said. No need to send money. All good. Just glad someone could use extra parts. Your vids are thanks enough.
@@garrykennedy5484 Wow. You are too kind. I appreciate you. Thanks very much. 🤗👍
Hi Garry. Just to let you know, I received the spare stock head and appreciate that a lot. At my age, you never know when I might need it. I plan to post another video of it flying with some mild 3d, soon as I get caught up on the editing of the others. Again, thanks so kindly.
@@NightFlyyer Glad to hear it. Looking forward to the vids. When it cools off I'm going to get my helis back out dust em off and start flying them again. It's been a few years, but I got a Airwolf with retracts 550 size I want to work up to. I'll probably start out with the micros and work up to my 450, then Gaui X3, then 600 and then 700 stretched to 800. Then do the Airwolf. Maybe even do some simulator time. LOL
Random gravity impulse , with word salad like that you should be a spokesperson for a government official .
@@sirclarkmarz What do you mean?! That’s what it was ha ha ha ha.
After looking at it.. seems servo broke, was still under power when crashed,, motor would have quit if signal lost.. it an old heli.. 13 yrs..
I think you’re right Charles. Those wires are a weak point on that align bec for sure but now I’m leaning to thinking it was more the servo wheel broke otherwise all the servos would’ve stopped moving where they were when cut off from electricity and it would’ve flown away level and straight, but the motor would shut off. Either way it’s flying fine again I really like it and I thank you.
I have a T Rex 600. Honestly, I'm afraid if it.
Well, it can be intimidating for sure but it sure does fly nice. Thank you and fly easy.
The saying goes, ‘Don’t be captain OLED.’
I don't know what that means.
@@NightFlyyer organic compounds in the new technologies to make it realistic.
I'm busy this year but next summer I'm dusting off my Raptor 90 and my Trex 600. I was harassed by TH-cam with RC helis video all summer !
Good. Gotta fly them for sure. Thanks.
Those batteries are trash. Switch to Life batteries.
You don’t fly your electric airplanes on Nicads anymore, do you? So why power anything else with old, heavy and under performing batteries
Dont know what batteries your talking about. The BEC is being run by a 7.4 (new Lipo) The Motor is driven by a 5200 18.5 battery, also new. Life batteries wont work for this. Those wires are a weak point on that align bec for sure but now I’m leaning to thinking it was more the servo wheel broke otherwise all the servos would’ve stopped moving where they were when cut off from electricity, and not just dive into the ground.
