It's not a fish and chip shop, it's just a mirage. You're too dehydrated and the light is playing tricks in the heat haze.

We have Jiffy Pop over here in the states. To cook it over a fire you have to constantly move the pan over the heat or you will burn it. Pop it until the foil turns as big as a ball and has a uniform size all the way around. Love your videos, keep up the good work.

As someone who stayed in the Western Sahara in a house with no roof for 6 months feel qualified to comment. Also went to Romney marshes as a child (also used to play in a derelict Fort Amhurst at Chatham). The music was so atmospheric which complemented your calm and knowledgeable delivery. Loved your vid.

Oglebay Zoo in Wheeling, West Virginia has a smaller train transport. US has alot of small trains for pedestrians to hop on and get to point to point, with cars you can ride in and smaller engines.
And it is obvious why the minks maintained all the skeletons, they are the remains of those who got lost in the desert and died of dehydration.

Kent Survival , I grew up with that stuff in the 70s, then forgot about it for decades. Rediscovered it in a little grocery in far northern Minnesota on the North Country trail. Not very good tasting popcorn, but everything seems a little better when enjoyed in the wilderness.

Yeah the secret is you have to keep it moving, you let it sit and things start to scorch. I learned on a true classic of a cast iron popper my grandparents had and the jiffy pop when we were out camping. Never ate the stuff (I don't like popcorn) I was just the most energetic grandchild.

Beautiful sir. I have to admit, that I was unaware of the fact, Britain had A desert. The church is beautiful !! That crypt gives A person A lot to think about, wow. That was A lot of interesting sights and places you filmed. The WW11 History intrigued me. My father, went through, England, Normandy, France, Czech, Poland, then Germany in WW11. How he made it back state side, we will never know, just glad he did. A beer or 2 , does wonders at he end of the day, agreed sir. Spam and eggs ,sounds like A winner to me. I am unfamiliar with Piams? Nothing like that drink sold locally here in the states. Maybe big cities? Jiffy Pop, lol, that brand I am familiar with, LOL. I never took one camping, but you sure gave me A great idea !! Addition of fresh berries, to your breakfast, beautiful friend. Great job at showing others , how to leave A clean campsite. Well done review and history lesson friend!! Well done indeed. Peace, John.

Geologically the British Isles can not have deserts because it's just too wet here, it could be a Drylands. But by the none geologically meaning of desert then yes it's an empty-ish place. www.sciencedaily.com/terms/desert.htm

Rob Fraser Gibraltar is a part of the British Commonwealth not the UK so technically it's not, different treaties and such, same Monarchy. Deserts are defined by a lack of precipitation (under 10" a year) but you can say that parts of the British Commonwealth are in one of the coldest deserts namely the British Antarctic Territory that has at best 8" of rain a year ;)

The semi- nomadic tribespeople of Romney Marsh - a bit like the Tuareg people are becoming increasingly reclusive and wary of outsiders from the modern world. They live by forgaging wild whelks and mussels and the odd crab now n then. The females adorn themselves with seagull feathers and mussel shells and can sometimes be heard singing at twilight - alive alive oh which is part of the mating ritual... but this now a very rare occurrence.

The bone singularity might have evolved for plain practical reasons: on a marsh the ground is quite similar to bogs in the moors, corpses won't decay due to wetness and absence of bacteria. Maybe this was the solution as to not having to keep stumbling over scary remains for ages..

I just love your vids I spend all week in trucks and I do get all over the place but I only see truck places. Just hearing the crunch crunch of your shoes was fab because I don't get to do that. Please keep making these films it keeps me sane. all the best from Derbyshire.

About 500yds east of where you were camping was a fish & chip shop! Have lived just opposite the listening posts for the past 30 years, walk my dogs along the old railway line every morning. Remember seeing you pack your tent up.

George Borrow, the English writer, visited Hythe church when young with his mother in the early 1800s. They met an old sexton who said the skulls were of the old Danes. They came as pirates and 'there chanced a mighty shipwreck'. Their skulls were placed in the church as a memorial. The sexton says that there were many more when he was young but they are fast disappearing. Related in 'Lavengro' by Borrow. This doesn't though explain why there were women and children among them unless they were later additions.

When I was a kid, (some 50 years ago), we would have Jiffy Pop now and then. Popping popcorn was always better in a large pot, but Jiffy Pop was more of a novelty (fun) treat. It took a few times to figure out how to pop all of the popcorn seeds without burning any of it, but we soon figured out that you have to hold the pan above the flame while shaking it.

As an Australian, I feel like saying, "That's not a desert. THIS is a desert"! Anyway it's a really well-shot video with great music.
The skeletons are interesting. I have heard about such collections in continental Europe but not Britain. They also made me wonder whose job it was to sort them into skulls, jawbones etc.

Unusual landscape for Britain, especially up here near the Lake District where practically nothing is very flat. Only thing it resembles a bit that I've been on are large slag banks, which are obviously man made. It's also much worse to walk on than shingle :) Nice video, enjoyed the little bit of history about the sound mirrors

That church is amazing. I've been to bone chapels in Rome and Faro where they have skulls and skeletons of monks, but I didn't know we had a similar thing here in Kent. Will pay it a visit!

Creepy skulls!! Quite the large collection!! Hint with the popcorn--once it starts making noise, you need to constantly shake it so the kernels get mixed around and the popcorn doesn't burn. A bit tricky on a fire but can be done! Thanks for taking us along on this adventure!
