This was so much fun to watch Jeanette! Can’t wait to see how the final results turn out! Hope you’re staying healthy over there across the pond! Much love 😍xx
Hey Jeanette, thanks for the shoutouts! I love filling all the canisters first it makes it so much more fun not having to stop and u can just squirt any unused slip back in yr container at the end. Good to know u don’t need the collar they r a pain to get off. I’m glad u left the bowl. It’s important to know where to stop n yes leaves to me too. If u went down it would be a less functional bowl. I do mine after trimming at nearly bone dry or even bone dry n leave it to air dry n never had a problem. I would also advise ppl to order extra cartridges when they purchase to save shipping. Loving these vids. I see a playlist in yr future lol. Nat xx
Youre always on my mind Nat when Im playing with the Airpen. Thanks as always for the hints and tips. So much to learn but what a fabulous decoration technique!!!
I have seen where some potters mark out a design using watered down food coloring and a small brush, it burns away in the first firing. Thank you for all the helpful tips!! Gorgeous first bowl.
That sounds a perfect idea! Thankyou so much!!! If youre interested why not join our facebook group 'Pottery and the Airpen'. where we can all share hints, tips and help each other along the way. You dont have to have an AirPen to join.
Thank you so much for posting your use of the Airpen. I bought mine almost two years ago, and still have not used it!!! I have been too intimidated to even give it a try. It has been in single digit temperatures with ice and snow for a few weeks now, so I will have to wait until the end of this week to give it a shot. We will be -2 degrees F tomorrow morning here in Kentucky, USA, but we will be in the 30s on Friday. I don’t have running water, so I will see if I can get my pens ready tomorrow. I will let you know how this turns out. Thanks again!

That slip making was so satisfying! Your bowl looks gorgeous! I'm looking forward to seeing it all glazed and complete. Thank you for sharing your process xx
Its quite a weirdly satisfying process to make creamy slip like this. Messy and an upperbody workout lol. You could hear me huffing - mind you Im still recovering from a cold which didnt help LOL Super pleased how it turned out - but no idea yet how I'll glaze.

Hi Jeanette, love your mug and bowl to start with but wow the pattern takes the bowl to a whole new level. Really great tool to have. Fab that they gave you a discount code too. I will just use my little bottles for now. Got too much on my list of things to buy😅 can't wait to see how you glaze the bowl❤❤❤

Oh my gosh girl this is sooo satisfying to see!! lol. I love how you explained it all. I do have one little suggestion for making slop that will make it much easier. When you break up the dry clay try to get it broken up as small as possible and that will help with all the lumps. I put my dry clay on a ziplock bag then set it on the table and crush it by smashing it with a rubber mallet. Pour water in the bag and then mix it well and let it sit a few hours or overnight. Then it’s ready to sieve if you need to or just use. I can’t wait to get one now. I have mason stains and I’ll color some slip and use that!! What a GREAT idea to fill them all up at once so they are done. Just went on the site and I didn’t read the site right. I. Was looking at the expansion set and thought that was the price. Wow it’s a bit pricey. I’ll have to think more about it. I absolutely love what you did!! The bowl is just beautiful and the glazes will break so beautifully over the texture!! I think you went down to the perfect place on the bowl. Great video, of course!❤❤❤
Hi Michele, I'm still very much in the learning process, and have SO much to learn but I can see the possibilities are endless. Great idea about crushing up the leatherhard clay, I'll do that next time. The Airpens are not cheap and I nearly didnt get one, but my mum wanted to get me something special for my 60th, and she got me this. I was thrilled!!! SO pleased I didnt go down to the bottom of the bowl. I just wanted to carry on playing with the airpen I think LOL. Looking forwards to glazing, but no idea yet how Im going to glaze it with the selection of glazes I have. I only have two celadons and not played with them much in combos. Need to give that some thought!
I am so glad you stopped where you did. When you were asking should I add more, I was saying no, no leave like that! I am from KC, MO! We are selling the sailboat in NZ and I will be moving back home. My grand plan is to have a studio so I will be getting an airpen! Thanks for sharing!

Thats so kind of you to say. I'm very pleased considering it was my first attempt and was quite difficult managing the angle working inside the bowl. Just hope it doesnt chip off in the bisque firing!
hi, its looking great and only day 2, well done. The slip decoration technique is pretty leaving the rim and pulling the slip away is beautiful and full of possibilities. Glazing is not my best part of the whole clay play process, so im moving away from just plain glazing to carving and surface decoration, using underglaze colours, and have only played with slip trailing a few times. this for me is looking into a whole new world. thankyou x
I do like this soft subtle technique. Its also forgiving for a beginner whilst still getting used to controlling the airpressure. Ive always enjoyed glazing but needed something to challenge me further. This certainly is! Thank you! 😊 I had no idea what I was going to try on my first piece and just made it up as I went along. Pretty pleased with the end result! Just hope it survived the bisque and glaze firing without chipping off now.
Jeanette I think that has a lovely organic flow to it. It would be fun to use mason stains for colored slip. I just use a syringe for my slip applications and am still in the practice mode on that one. It's fun to watch you learn to use the pen.
Thanks so much. I really would like to use some mason stains in the slip, I'm just trying to work out how I'd glaze it afterwards. Hi, Noted - thankyou. I hadnt thought that far ahead when I started LOL. Mine was from the US (via Amazon) and the description said it would have a UK adaptor, but it didnt. I fortunately had an adapter in the house as we often had US visitors who forgot their travel adaptor. Be worth trying to order an adaptor off Amazon so you have it before the Airpen arrives. Sorry to forgot to mention I am in Denmark.
Its not an adaptor you would have if you go to the US - its what a US resident would buy coming to your country - if that makes sense. Would be great if you joined us on the facebook group 'Pottery and the Airpen' Somewere we can all share hints tips and grow together on this journey.
No! Don't go down! It will impede spooning out food and it will be too busy. Good joib!
