In my opinion, the greatest album of all time. Here's my rankings : 1. Eleanor Rigby 2. Tomorrow Never Knows 3. I'm Only Sleeping 4. Here There And Everywhere 5. For No One 6. She Said She Said 7. And Your Bird Can Sing 8. Taxman 9. Love You Too 10. I Want To Tell You 11. Got To Get You Into My Life 12. Doctor Robert 13. Yellow Submarine 14. Good Day Sunshine
Yes! Agree. I like it because of the gorgeous melody and the lyrics....right off the bat Paul draws you in. These are not adolescent lyrics. My number 1 on Revolver.
Trying to rank an album of this magnitude is difficult because this album is so stacked with great songs. If I could however, personally rank my top 5, then it would be as follows: 5. Tomorrow Never Knows - Just the fact that the whole thing's backwards speaks volumes. It's a testament to how far they've come since Love Me Do, Please Please Me and the like. 4. Here, There & Everywhere - Macca as always shines on his balladry. 3. Got To Get You Into My Life - Right from the moment the horns kick in, you know immediately that Macca's lead vocals are coming in hot and proves it again with this track. 2. Tied between Taxman, Love You To, and I Want To Tell You - George really starts to come of age on Revolver especially so with Love You To continuing the path he had started with his playing the sitar on Norwegian Wood and even more so with Taxman as that track showed the grit in his lead vocals as well as being the opener on the album. Also, what stood out to me in I Want To Tell You (other than his inspiration from taking LSD) is that he's singing about the avalanche of thoughts that are difficult to say or write down or transmit. 1. Tied between Eleanor Rigby and Yellow Submarine - The single I think is the big highlight of the whole album. Macca continues the path Yesterday started, this time putting in a string octet and does it so well that he took home the '66 Grammy for Best Vocal Performance. Yellow Submarine on the other hand, simply rocks because Ringo delivers his best performance on this and the sound effects and the singing at the end is just borderline excellent. I think that this song is so good that it made fans want to watch the film and it still delights to this day on.
This changes from day to day you know but this is my personal listing for the GOAT album. 1. I’m only sleeping 2. Here There Everywhere 3. She said She said 4. Tomorrow Never Knows 5. Eleanor Rigby 6. And Your Bird Can Sing 7. I want to tell you 8. Love you to 9. Doctor Robert 10. Taxman 11. For No One 12. Got to get you into my life 13. Good day sunshine 14. Yellow Submarine
Shawn and Trey, I am really looking forward to this album ranking video. I am very interested in hear8ing where you guys rank these incredible songs. The live stream and listening party sounds so cool. I'm glad to hear you have a good turnout for those live events.I will listen to the whole album on CD so I'll be prepared when I watch your video. Revolver is a strong co9ntender for the title of best album of all time.
Shawn and Trey, Great facts you guys shared on this album. Wow, they put in a lot of hours in recording, and you are right, the studio became the instrument. I agree with what you guys said that this album is the real innovative Beatles album. I read that someone once said that Revolver sounds like a greatest hits album, that's how great the songs are. I am very impressed with the accurate analytical description in your comments on each track, going into detail on what each song offers. You both are very close in your ranking of these songs being in the same ballpark on a lot of the songs. I like the way you guys explain your reasons for each song ranked. I agree with most of your ranking, but there a few songs I would rank differently. I clearly agree that this album is the greatest album in music history and I agree with your ratings of 10. I also agree that this time Paul barely edges John for the MVP award. You are right about the sequence of songs on sides one and two. It is spot on. You guys did a great job sharing your thoughts. I would like to share a lot of information I read over the years in books and magazines.Forgive me if I am long winded in my comment. The original title for the album was The Magic Circle. They changed it to Abbtacadabra, Then they settled on Revolver. At the time of this recording, when they shared their demos, John said to Paul that he thought Paul was writing better songs than him. George had a hard time getting the lead guitar right on Taxman and after many tries gave up and they let Paul try it, and Paul nailed the guitar lead perfectly, so it is Paul on the lead guitar that you hear on Taxman. I read that it was during Revolver that George wanted to quit the band, and this is in 1966. If I remember correctly, George said he felt he was not needed as much. I guess he felt overwhelmed by the incredible talents of John and Paul. I always thought this was interesting reading these facts. Thank you Shawn and Trey for this entertaining video. I will list my ranking. 14 Yellow Submarine I agree, great sing a long children's song and right for Ringo. 13 Dr. Robert Cool rocking song but not up to par with the other songs 12 Love You To Unique Indian influenced song, George becoming influenced by Eastern philosophies, but a nice melody beneath the surface of Indian instruments. 11 She Said She Said Solid Rock song with great lead guitar and great drums by Ringo.Straightforward Rock with a heavy sound 10 And Your Bird Can Sing This is a classic Rock song , great lead guitars played by both George and P0aaul from what I read, catchy upbeat rocker. This is the song they used as the opening number for the original Beatles cartoons. 9 Taxman Great album opener, the only time a Harrison song opens a Beatles Album, hard rocking song with George being fed up with taxes and writing a song about it 8 Good Day Sunshine Very happy song, so bright and bouncy, so upbeat and melodic, one of my personal favorite Beatles songs 7 I Want To Tell You Great song by George, good melody and harmony, George is stretching his writing ability 6 For No One Haunting torch ballad with very nice instrumentation, a really good one by Paul 5 Got To Get You I8nto My Life What a great song. a high energy song, I read that John was shouting and excited during the playback of this song in the sound room, that's how much this song psyched him up, and I read the founder of Chicago said this song is the reason the band Chicago became influenced to form their own band and use lots of horns, That's how innovative this song is. 4 I'm Only Sleeping One of John's be3st, a classic slowed up psychedelic song with unique backwards tape on the guitar and John managed to capture a sleepy atmosphere, one of my favorite Beatles songs 3 Tomorrow Never Knows An absolute classic psychedelic rocker featuring incredible drumming by Ringo, pounding bass, far away haunting sound in John's voice, a totally unique vibe that is like a signpost for their next album, in my opinion the first real heavy metal prototype before heavy metal was invented. No other band can top this song for it's powerful menacing sound, the Beatles could out rock any band 2 Here There And Everywhere Trey, You make a great case for this being no. 1. The top two could have gone either way, John said it is his personal favorite Beatles song, Art Garfunkal said this is the most beautiful song he ever heard, Paul shines with his most pleasing melody he ever wrote, it is a masterpiece 1 Eleanor Rigby Shawn, I can see why you chose this as no. 1. It is like classical Pop, a masterpiece of songwriti8ng, The famous songwriter, I think it was Lieber, of Lieber and Stollar songwriting team once said he believed this is the greatest song ever written.
What a fantastic comment Poet! I knew a lot of the facts you shared but some I DIDN'T! Learned some stuff and greatly appreciate the time you took to share!!
@@ReactionsToTheClassics Thank you Shawn and Trey. I read a lot of books on the Beatles years ago. Your video is fantastic, and I always learn things when watching your videos. There is more I'd like to add. I am thinking of writing a follow up comment.

To me, one of the best things about And Your Bird Can sing is how the first pat misleads you with "You don't get me." That line makes it sound like one of those brush-off songs, but then it goes off in another direction.
Great video once again guys. Revolver is currently my all-time favourite album. The mix of psychedelia/experimental for Lennon and Harrison and more conservative pop from McCartney. My ranking would be: 1) "Here, There and Everywhere" - the best song McCartney ever wrote in my opinion. Soft-rock infused with soul. 2) "I'm Only Sleeping" - a psychedelic masterpiece" 3) "Eleanor Rigby" - a baroque pop masterpiece. 4) "She Said She Said" - very catchy and cool song 5) "Tomorrow Never Knows" - very experimental and trippy song 6) "Yellow Submarine" - screw the haters, I love this song. Ringo's vocals are pitch perfect here. 7) "For No One" - the biggest grower. Great lyric 8) "Got to Get You Into My Life" - love the Motown/R&B feel, though Earth, Wind and Fire';s cover is superior in my opinion 9) "And Your Bird Can Sing" - a funny and catchy track 10) "Love You To" - love the Indian vibes on this track 11) "I Want to Tell You" - a really good track 12) "Taxman" - very catchy 13) "Doctor Robert" - really like this song. The guitar hook is really catchy. 14) "Good Day Sunshine" - it's a fun song, but it's an easy skip. I like the song though.
Paul did Eleanor Rigby which isn’t conservative pop. Paul also did the tape loops for Tomorrow Never Knows so he was experimenting just as much or even more than the others
I usually don't make my own lists on other people's videos, but the wife's busy, so there's no one stopping me, ha ha!! All right, from top to bottom: 1. And Your Bird Can Sing 2. She Said She Said 3. Taxman 4. Eleanor Rigby 5. Yellow Submarine 6. Doctor Robert 7. Tomorrow Never Knows 8. I Want to Tell You 9. Love You To 10. Got to Get You Into My Life 11. How indeed do you rank the songs on an album so great? In my view, "For No One" is the most poignant breakup song ever. The one thing more painful than having an ex-lover hate you is having an ex-lover who is completely indifferent to you as if you don't even exist. And I guess I am unusual, but "I Want to Tell You" has always been my favorite of the George Harrison Beatles songs.
1. She Said She Said 2. For No One 3. Eleanor Rigby 4. Here, There and Everywhere 5. And Your Bird Can Sing 6. Taxman 7. Dr Robert 8. Tomorrow Never Knows 9. Yellow Submarine (but novel, commercial, a huge hit and deserves a better rap.) 10. Got to Get You Into My Life 11. I’m Only Sleeping The last three are below par.. 12. Love You To 13. Good Day Sunshine 14. I Want to Tell You
14. Love you to 13. Yellow submarine 12. Good day sunshine 11. Got to get you into my life 10. I want to tell you 9. Dr. Robert 8. Here there and everywhere (Bit too sappy for me, can see why you guy's would rank it so high, it's a beautiful song) 7. Eleanor Rigby (Masterpiece, unfortunately just prefer the others cause I've heard it too many times growing up) 6. She said she said 5. Taxman 4. And your bird can sing 3. I'm only sleeping 2. Tomorrow never knows 1. For no one (Best song Paul ever wrote imo)
Great list and understand your perspective. For us even if something is overplayed we have to try to set that aside and rank on quality. NOT to say we would want to hear it again though haha Thanks!
Sorry for being a bit of a latecomer to this particular party, but here's my reverse-order Revolver Top Five for ya: v) Taxman iv) I'm Only Sleeping iii) And Your Bird Can Sing ii) Yellow Submarine i) Tomorrow Never Knows As I've said before, this isn't one of my personal favourite Beatles albums, maybe because I came to it relatively late a few years after first falling in musical love with the likes of Help! and Rubber Soul - but I respect the heck out of it, and I can certainly understand why you guys dig it so much, yes...? PS: Fair play to all the other commenters below who singled Ringo out as the album's MVP - I heartily concur, yes...?!
Can't go that on Ringo but understand it. The pure creative force of Lennon and McCartney would be very difficult to not name one of the name the MVP of the album. Very well could be Ringo's best performance though. Thanks!
14. I Want to Tell You 13. For No One 12. She Said She Said 11. Doctor Robert 10. Yellow Submarine 9. Tomorrow Never Knows (don’t kill me) 8. Here There and Everywhere 7. Good Day Sunshine 6. Love You To 5. And Your Bird Can Sing 4. Got to Get You Into My Life 3. I’m Only Sleeping 2. Eleanor Rigby 1. Taxman
Tough task, but here goes 1 Eleanor Rigby 2 I'm Only Sleeping 3 Hete, There and Everywhere 4. For No One 5 Taxman 6. Tomorrow Never Knows 7 And Your Bird Can Sing 8 Got to Get You Into My Life 9. Good Day Sunshine 10 She Said She Said 11 I Want to Tell You 12 Yellow Submarine 13. Love You To 14. Doctor Robert
My ranking: 1. Tomorrow Never Knows 2. I’m Only Sleeping 3. Eleanor Rigby 4. Here, There, and Everywhere 5.. For No One 5. She Said, She Said 6. Taxman 7. Rain 8. Paperback writer.
My ranking: 14. Tomorrow Never Knows 13. I'm Only Sleeping 12. Taxman 11. I Want to Tell You 10. She Said She Said 9. Doctor Robert 8. Yellow Submarine 7. And Your Bird can Sing 6. Good Day Sunshine 5. Got to Get You into My Life 4. Love You To 3. Here, There, and Everywhere 2. For No One 1. Eleanor Rigby
5 billion people on planet earth were asked what the greatest song ever written is. 4 billion of them said Good Day Sunshine. Including me. Because it's pure perfection.
@@ReactionsToTheClassics We really seem to be on different wave lengths these past two records. Can't wait for Sgt Pepper. Just make that When I'm Sixty-four is in the top 5 and we won't have any problems.
Been looking forward to your track by track review/ranking on this one, guys, and you didn't disappoint! A VERY difficult album to rank because the songs on Revolver are so varied in style, so consistent in overall quality, and even with the diversity of the tracks, there is a cohesive feel to the whole record. I liked your comment about how the shortness of many of the songs leave you wanting more, and this is very true. If I were to pick an MVP it would definitely be McCartney, with an honourable mention for Harrison. Ringo's drumming is fantastic throughout, Harrison's songwriting goes up a notch, McCartney's gift for melody is on clear display, and Lennon's brashness and willingness to experiment adds additional colours. In summation, an album where all of the Fabs shine. I often wonder what this album would feel like if Paperback Writer and Rain were inserted into the track list, or perhaps in place of a couple of the other tracks here, but it is hard to dispute that Revolver is a perfect masterpiece as is. Here are my picks: 14. Yellow Submarine (you guys hit the nail on the head. Fun song, fits the psychedelia of the album but on an album with so many standouts, something has to be at the bottom. It was nice of the lads to give Ringo a song on the LP.) 13. She Said She Said (this song, like Yellow Submarine for me, fits on the album but has never been a particular favourite of mine. I think lyrically it has a really interesting basis in reality, but musically doesn't reach the heights of so many other great Lennon tunes.) 12. Love You To (Harrison's sitar tunes took time for me to warm up to when I first got into The Beatles, but I always felt this was a bold and restrained foray into the instrument, and fits on Revolver beautifully. I used to rank it higher than his follow up sitar song, Within You Without You, but after experiencing Within You on the remastered vinyl of Sgt. Pepper, I developed a new appreciation for it, so now I hold it in higher regard and rank it more favourably ) 11. Good Day Sunshine (bouncy, feel good McCartney track, but of all of McCartney's gems on here, something has to be last.) 10. Dr. Robert (I always loved that Lennon wrote a tune describing his and Harrison's first experience with LSD, in which their dentist essentially drugged them at a dinner by putting it in their coffee without their knowledge or consent. Maybe not Lennon's best song, but fits in with the psychedelic themes of the album) 9. Tomorrow Never Knows (the most innovative song The Beatles had done up to this point. Great closer for the album with incredible drumming by Ringo Starr. McCartney's experiments with tape loops was put to awesome use on this track. It's not my favourite Beatles tune in terms of melody by any stretch, but there is no denying the impact of this song and I don't think any other track on Revolver could have ended the LP in a better way.) 8. And Your Bird Can Sing (I love this song. Lennon thought this song was empty-probably because he puts a very high premium on the lyrics in his songs and rates them accordingly-but this song's groove and swagger makes it one of the most engaging on the whole album. The only thing is I wish is that it was longer.) 7. I Want To Tell You ( Harrison's songs really stand out to me on this album. They are all so different and well played/performed. The thing I love about this track in particular are the swells of harmony vocals that are both beautiful and slightly off kilter. Add to it that dissonant piano note underpinning the singer's difficulty articulating his tangled thoughts, and that memorable guitar lick, bringing it all together.) 6. Taxman ( This is the first and only time a Harrison penned song leads off a Beatles LP, and it's hard to imagine any other song being the kick off for this one. The rhythm playing of Starr and McCartney is sensational, George's lyrics are both biting and satirical, and McCartney shreds on those guitar solos. Great song, great opener.) 5. I'm Only Sleeping (This song creates a mood that perfectly describes the drowsy feeling Lennon was describing in both body and mind-coming down after the insanity of Beatlemania as well as coming down from his then increasing escapism into pot and acid. The washes of backwards guitar really create a vibe) 4. For No One (This song is an often forgotten McCartney gem like Things We Said Today, I'm Looking Through You and Lovely Rita. It is poignant, painful and beautifully sung and played. A timeless song.) 3. Elanor Rigby (Can you tell I'm a Paul fan yet? This song is miraculous after the swinging rock of Taxman. Fantastic lyrical storytelling with all the Beatles contributing a lyric here and there, and that fantastic string section providing the song with both urgency and melancholy.) 2. Here There And Everywhere (What can I say about this song? Absolutely lovely with beautiful harmonies. McCartney at his finest) 1. Got To Get You Into My Life (I'm not sure if this is a controversial number one...but I absolutely love this track. I love the brass section and the R&B flavour of it, Paul's incredible vocals, and the subtle ( as well as then subversive) reference to pot, its effects, and its significance in the culture at the time. A standout, a deeper McCartney cut (possibly also underrated) delivered with incredible gusto. The fade out at the end with McCartney really leaning into his vocals is fantastic, and like so many songs on this album, is over too soon.) Great review as always, guys! Keep 'em coming! If I were to change anything in the track listing, I think I would replace Yellow Submarine with Paperback Writer (sorry Ringo) and She Said She Said with Rain. Ringo's drumming on Rain is outstanding, and I always felt that this song is one of The Beatles most overlooked tracks. Would've felt especially in keeping with the experimental tone of Revolver, but it's hard to dispute that this album is a classic.
Great comment Graydon. And spot on! Love your thoughts on the songs and the album and agree with you on the inclusion of Paperback Writer and Rain. Much like Peppers with Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, swapping the double A sided singles for 2 songs on the album would elevate them even higher. Thanks!
14. Yellow Submarine 13. Love You To 12. Good Day Sunshine 11. Doctor Robert 10. I Want To Tell You 9. Got To Get You Into My Life 8. And Your Bird Can Sing 7. She Said She Said 6. Taxman 5. For No One 4. I'm Only Sleeping 3. Here There And Everywhere 2. Eleanor Rigby 1. Tomorrow Never Knows
14. Good Day Sunshine 13. Yellow Submarine 12. Doctor Robert 11. I Want To Tell You 10. Got To Get You Into My Life 09. And Your Bird Can Sing 08. She Said, She Said 07. For No One 06. I'm Only Sleeping 05. Taxman 04. Love You To 03. Here, There, And Everywhere 02. Tomorrow Never Knows 01. Eleanor Rigby
@@ReactionsToTheClassics well I have vinyl stereo but vinyl in general sounds better then any other format by the way do y’all ever done Black Sabbath ?
It changes all the time but as of right now I think Eleanor Rigby is the greatest song ever written. Also shout-out for Ringo as MVP. His drumming is superb throughout the album
Nice insights into one of the greatest albums of all time! Thank you! Ranking is so difficult, however, I would say my album favorites by each Beatle are: "Yellow Submarine" by Ringo (only option), "Taxman" by George (never really liked the dissonance of "I Want to Tell You"), "Tomorrow Never Knows" by John (this has grown on me over time), and "Eleanor Rigby" by Paul (with "For No One" as a runner-up).
This album definitely changed history. And it is without a doubt one of the best. My list: 14. Taxman (I have nothing against this song, it's great) 13. Doctor Robert (Excellent) 12. Love You To (A different song that sounds great) 11. Good Day Sunshine (A song that sounds very special) 10. Got To Get Into My Life (Saxophones give power to the melody, it's great) 9. I Want To Tell You (Completely mind-blowing) 8. And Your Bird Can Sing (Did we get to this song yet? I'm surprised it's at number 8 when I love it with passion) 7. I'm Only Sleeping (It's really revolutionary and novel) 6. Yellow Submarine (It sounds very childish, and so it's the best childish song ever) 5. Here, There And Everywhere (It's very cute) 4. For No One (It's beautiful, there are many other words to describe it but this is the most appropriate) 3. She Said She Said (Completely underrated, it slow pace makes it great) 2. Tomorrow Never Knows (Mind-blowing, mind-blowing, mind-blowing, the percussion and instruments are really powerful) 1. Eleanor Rigby (It's a simple song, at the same time it's probably the best Beatles song, or it's just close to being the one)
I thinks that Revolver is extremely underrated from the Beatles catalog… when I think of my favorite Beatles albums this album usually is up against another album I love at the time .. either “ Rubber Soul “ or “ Revolver “ and sometimes it’s “ Wit the Beatles “ or “ Revolver “ 😂 I guess I should just realize that my favorite is “ Revolver “ 🤦🏼♂️😂
Guys another really enjoyable review. Can’t argue much I very slightly more with Shawn and Eleanor as no 1. Ringos drumming also great on She Said and Paul was so blown away hearing Pet Sounds that it inspired Here There and Everywhere. Looking forward to your Pepper ranking cheers guys
1. Tomorrow Never Knows 2. And Your Bird Can Sing 3. For No One 4. Here, There, and Everywhere 5. I’m Only Sleeping 6. Taxman 7. She Said, She Said 8. Got To Get You Into My Life 9. Eleanor Rigby 10. Doctor Robert 11. Good Day Sunshine 12. I Want To Tell You 13. Love You To 14. Yellow Submarine. But if Rain were on Revolver it would be #1 with Paperback Writer at #4. And to make room I would get rid of Love You To and Yellow Submarine.
Shawn and Trey, There are a few things I would like to add that I want to share. I thought about the double A side single, Paperback Writer and Rain. Can you imagine how much more this album would have been elevated had those two songs been added to the album. The Beatles were at the peak of their writing abilities on Revolver. In our childhood we had the album Yesterday And Today on Capital. Back in the mid '70's my brother and I saw on the wall of a record store the original first state Butcher cover album with a price tag of 500 dollars. As teenagers we didn't have the money to buy it. I wish we did, it's worth thousands now. If I remember correctly, all the songs on Revolver were featured on the Beatles cartoons, and we became acquainted with those songs in the '60's by watching the cartoons. Another bit of information I read is that during the time of Revolver, The Beatles were so ahead of the other artists and bands that there was no others to compete with them, so they decided to compete with one another, a healthy competition between John and Paul and George to motivate each to write their best material. btw, I want to mention that I think that is a very cool line in Tomorrow Never Knows where John says ' Listen to the color of your dreams '. I wonder what he meant by that. That is unique lyrical imagery by John.
Great info Poet. Yes that album cover is so sought after but that is crazy money in the 70's! Competition done correctly can bring out the best in people. So much about TNK is special, including that line. Thanks!
@@ReactionsToTheClassics You are right, 500 dollars was a lot of money in the mid '70's. You are right, I agree that competition done in a correct way can bring out the best in people. It motivates and pushes people to elevate the quality of their talents. And yes, I always been in awe of that song by John. The power in the music production and the sound effects and the lyrical content plus his voice makes it the essence of the psychedelic sound and totally unique.
In 1976, Radio 3XY (Melbourne) surveyed 20,000 Beatle fans as to their favourite song. Two songs from Revolver made the Top 50: 10. Eleanor Rigby 33. Yellow Submarine
Right for money but not for music quality or do you believe Ice Ice baby by vanilla ice is one of the best songs of the 90's because it was one of the most profitable? Or that Blonde on Blonde by Dylan is just an ok album because it has only sold 2 million copies? See it is a slippery slope equating chart success with quality.
My Ranking 1st Tomorrow Never Knows 2nd Eleanor Rigby 3rd She Said She Said 4th Here, There And Everywhere 5th Taxman 6th For No One 7th And Your Bird Can Sing 8th Got To Get You Into My Life 9th I’m Only Sleeping 10th Yellow Submarine 11th Love You Too 12th I Want To Tell You 13th Doctor Robert 14th Good Day Sunshine
Actually, "Elanor Rigby" is one of the two songs where none of the Beatles play an instrument. The other one is "shes leaving home". Good video as always! :)
1 Eleanor Rigby, 2 here there and everywhere, 3 yellow submarine, 4 taxman, 5 tomorrow never knows, 6 i want to tell you, 7 got to get you into my life, 8 for no one, 9 dr robert, 10 she said she said, 11 im only sleeping ,12 good day sunshine, 13 and your bird can Sing e 14 love you to.
In my top 5 albums of all time and my favourite Beatles album : 14. Good day sunshine 13. Yellow Submarine 12. Dr Robert 11. Here there and everywhere 10. I want to tell you 9. And your bird can sing 8. Love you to 7. For no one 6. Im only sleeping 5. Eleanor rigby 4. Got to get you into my life 3. Taxman 2. She said she said 1. Tomorrow never knows The top 12 songs were hard to rank but the bottom 2 are clearly the worst in my opinion.
I do not see any musical value to Tomorrow Never Knows. Damn when we were a group of young Hippie types we were always lifting the needle and skipping this song. We all hated it. To this day I think this is a hodgepodge of weird garbage. With she said she said a close second, from the bottom. John was doing heroin or L S D or both , it shows. Not even close to Here there and everywhere, or even Good day sunshine for that matter. IMHO
Excellent job. I would find this very difficult to do. I really hope this album gets the Giles Martin treatment too. I don't know if it is quite the same in the states and I think it less common now anyway, but referring to a man as 'she' or 'her' are bitchy and camp slights against the person in question and Lennon was definitely capable of such things. I love the fact that three of Lennon's contributions to Revolver are sarcastic digs at their subjects.
Paul was never better before or after. But my 2 favorite tracks are Sleeping and, my all time underrated track by anyone at #1, And Your Bird can Sing. That John. A genius even when he wasn't trying hard...
The greatest album of all time 1)she said she said 2)For no one 3)Eleanor Rigby 4)Tomorrow never knows 5)Here There and Everywhere 6)Taxman 7)I'm only sleeping 8)Good day Sunshine 9)Doctor Robert 10)I want to tell you 11)And Your Bird Can Sing 12)Love You To 13)Yellow Submarine 14)Got to get you into my life
It is such a difficult task to rate these songs. Of course, some tracks are more innovative than others, like, say, "Eleanor Rigby" compared with "Dr Robert". However, that doesn't mean "Dr Robert" isn't a great track, or it doesn't contribute greatly to making this a true classic, and arguably the best album ever made. Yes, Paul does have a slight edge over John here, with the likes of "Eleanor Rigby", "Here, There And Everywhere" and "For No One". I think those three reflect him at his absolute pinnacle, and they are also not self indulgent like some of his later more whimsical efforts. Paul really knew how to express himself vocally at this point. The delicacy of "Here, There And Everywhere" is outstanding. John was outstanding too, though, with "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "I'm Only Sleeping". George's three contributions were memorable, too, although, as much as I love it, I don't feel "I Want To Tell You" is as finely tuned as the others on the album. It has a slightly knocked off feel, but that also contributes to its charm. "Yellow Submarine" may not be my favourite, but I also wouldn't want to be without it - its sequencing towards the end of side 1 works well, and adds greatly to the album's different range of styles. The Beatles just had the ability at this point in recording remarkably brilliant tunes, with fabulous arrangements, without the over indulgencies of later years. I rather like the basic and rather lean 'rock' sounds on tracks like "Taxman", "She Said, She Said" and "And Your Bird Can Sing". too.
No finer album has ever been made. My order would be 1. For No One 2. I'm Only Sleeping 3. She Said She Said 4. Eleanor Rigby 5. Here, There, and Everywhere 6. Taxman 7. Got To Get You Into My Life ... and then the second half.
I believe you commented on the Patreon post itself, instead of the YT video. Some of our Patrons just comment on YT even if they are Patrons. Whatever you prefer!
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist some also just copy and paste their Patron comments over to YT as well. Whatever you prefer, the Patron post gives the early access so you can discuss before the video actually drops 👍🏻
@@ReactionsToTheClassics yeah I know about the Early Access. I don't do good with copy and paste from a phone I've screwed it up forever lol. It's all right I just wondered that's all I'm not losing no sleep over it it's no big deal.
Paul is on She Said She Said. That rumor has already been debunked. The new Revolver remix has a take with Paul playing bass With the new remix, Giles Martin said that it is 100% Paul on bass Mark Lewisohn said it has to be Paul playing bass because of the way it was recorded. There are four people playing on the track so Paul must be playing bass
Thanks also keep in mind we have literally done 1000 hours or more of research on The Beatles. So many different takes that believe it is the authority. So many conflicting things said by the subjects over the years, very difficult to nail down some of these facts with zero doubt. Not saying you are wrong just a general statement on all things Beatles. Thanks
Nope just album. We realize all the singles that were released with each album. Pepper's being the most loaded BUT we will do these rankings for Past Masters when we get there and those songs will show up there. Thanks
@@ReactionsToTheClassics the reason this is a mistake as to what follows; The "singles" to a large degree were connected to either an album or an ep recording session despite the slice and dice habits of American releases of 12or 11per side, prior to PEPPER Furthermore Only A Northern song, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane and Magical Mystery Song were all recorded at same session for Pepper. Suffice to say it could have been a slightly diff. recording.
We are very well aware of all of that. As we mention in the vid we covered this album in-depth in an hour plus podcast, we have reviewed all their albums and anthology track by track, ranked all their songs, albums, and lead vocals. Trust me we are aware BUT the thing is when you tackle these projects you have to choose a method by which you are going to do it. These aren't things we throw together, they are very time consuming and in that we choose our method and go with it. It is an ALBUM ranking. Peace
lol we get this ALL the time and it is so not true. If something is best then something has to be worst on the album. Watch the video for some perspective. When someone says there is no bad Beatles song it just kills their credibility. We have spent literally thousands of hours going through their whole discography, putting together ranking vids, track by track review of every album and we think they are the greatest ever without a doubt. BUT to say they have no bad songs is just not objective. Thanks
@@ReactionsToTheClassics i'm back to say that "name one" may have sounded kind of snotty or hostile and i didn't mean it that way at all; i'm just interested to know what beatles song(s) you think is/are bad. sorry for the confusion. this is how wars start and that is NOT me.
We have so much material up on the channel on them. We cover it in the track rankings the lead vocal rankings, the album rankings, not here to debate that
The best song on the album is probably Eleanor Rigby, but much like Blackbird and Yesterday, I don't really consider this a Beatles song when Paul is the only Beatle involved. My top five: 1- Here, There and Everywhere. Gorgeous melody, incredible harmonies. 2- For no one. The son is right, probably the most underrated Beatles song. So much hurt and pain in 2 minutes. 3- Taxman. The first great George song. In fact, his only song up to this point I really rate. 4- I'm only sleeping. Classic John vocal, and one of his best melodies. 5- Tomorrow Never knows. No need to explain. Suggestion: The ten most underrated Beatles songs, reaction.
Paul is the MVP on this one his tracks are unstoppable . But I have to say surprisingly and your bird can sing is one of my favourite tunes of all time
1. Tomorrow Never Knows 2. Eleanor Rigby 3. Here There And Everywhere 4. I'm Only Sleeping 5. For No One 6. She Said She Said 7. And Your Bird Can Sing 8. Taxman 9. Doctor Robert 10. Got To Get You Into My Heart 11. I Want To Tell You 12. Yellow Submarine 13. Good Day Sunshine 14. Love You To

@@rubygreta1 Agreed
For no One is maybe the most underrated McCartney song!! Great job guys/very enjoyable
Thanks Br!
Yes! Agree. I like it because of the gorgeous melody and the lyrics....right off the bat Paul draws you in. These are not adolescent lyrics. My number 1 on Revolver.
Great review guys! No one reviews music quite like RTTC!
Always appreciate you Keith!!!
Trying to rank an album of this magnitude is difficult because this album is so stacked with great songs. If I could however, personally rank my top 5, then it would be as follows:
Thanks for sharing!
This changes from day to day you know but this is my personal listing for the GOAT album.
1. I’m only sleeping
2. Here There Everywhere
3. She said She said
4. Tomorrow Never Knows
5. Eleanor Rigby
6. And Your Bird Can Sing
7. I want to tell you
8. Love you to
9. Doctor Robert
10. Taxman
11. For No One
12. Got to get you into my life
13. Good day sunshine
14. Yellow Submarine

My favorite song (Here,there & Everywhere) ❤️
Great choice!!!
Yes it is. Look forward to seeing your ranking!
@@ReactionsToTheClassics Thank you guys. I am going to watch your video now.
13 Dr. Robert Cool rocking song but not up to par with the other songs
12 Love You To Unique Indian influenced song, George becoming influenced by Eastern philosophies, but a nice melody beneath the surface of Indian instruments.
11 She Said She Said Solid Rock song with great lead guitar and great drums by Ringo.Straightforward Rock with a heavy sound
10 And Your Bird Can Sing This is a classic Rock song , great lead guitars played by both George and P0aaul from what I read, catchy upbeat rocker. This is the song they used as the opening number for the original Beatles cartoons.
9 Taxman Great album opener, the only time a Harrison song opens a Beatles Album, hard rocking song with George being fed up with taxes and writing a song about it
8 Good Day Sunshine Very happy song, so bright and bouncy, so upbeat and melodic, one of my personal favorite Beatles songs
7 I Want To Tell You Great song by George, good melody and harmony, George is stretching his writing ability
6 For No One Haunting torch ballad with very nice instrumentation, a really good one by Paul
5 Got To Get You I8nto My Life What a great song. a high energy song, I read that John was shouting and excited during the playback of this song in the sound room, that's how much this song psyched him up, and I read the founder of Chicago said this song is the reason the band Chicago became influenced to form their own band and use lots of horns, That's how innovative this song is.
4 I'm Only Sleeping One of John's be3st, a classic slowed up psychedelic song with unique backwards tape on the guitar and John managed to capture a sleepy atmosphere, one of my favorite Beatles songs
3 Tomorrow Never Knows An absolute classic psychedelic rocker featuring incredible drumming by Ringo, pounding bass, far away haunting sound in John's voice, a totally unique vibe that is like a signpost for their next album, in my opinion the first real heavy metal prototype before heavy metal was invented. No other band can top this song for it's powerful menacing sound, the Beatles could out rock any band
2 Here There And Everywhere Trey, You make a great case for this being no. 1. The top two could have gone either way, John said it is his personal favorite Beatles song, Art Garfunkal said this is the most beautiful song he ever heard, Paul shines with his most pleasing melody he ever wrote, it is a masterpiece
1 Eleanor Rigby Shawn, I can see why you chose this as no.

To me, one of the best things about And Your Bird Can sing is how the first pat misleads you with "You don't get me."
That line makes it sound like one of those brush-off songs, but then it goes off in another direction.
Great point. It is a great song that makes me smile every time I hear it!
Great video once again guys. Revolver is currently my all-time favourite album. The mix of psychedelia/experimental for Lennon and Harrison and more conservative pop from McCartney. My ranking would be:
1) "Here, There and Everywhere" - the best song McCartney ever wrote in my opinion. Soft-rock infused with soul.
2) "I'm Only Sleeping" - a psychedelic masterpiece"
3) "Eleanor Rigby" - a baroque pop masterpiece.
4) "She Said She Said" - very catchy and cool song
5) "Tomorrow Never Knows" - very experimental and trippy song
6) "Yellow Submarine" - screw the haters, I love this song. Ringo's vocals are pitch perfect here.
7) "For No One" - the biggest grower. Great lyric
8) "Got to Get You Into My Life" - love the Motown/R&B feel, though Earth, Wind and Fire';s cover is superior in my opinion
9) "And Your Bird Can Sing" - a funny and catchy track
10) "Love You To" - love the Indian vibes on this track
11) "I Want to Tell You" - a really good track
12) "Taxman" - very catchy
13) "Doctor Robert" - really like this song. The guitar hook is really catchy.
14) "Good Day Sunshine" - it's a fun song, but it's an easy skip. I like the song though.
Great breakdown and I agree it is the GOAT. Thanks Rockingbird!
Paul did Eleanor Rigby which isn’t conservative pop. Paul also did the tape loops for Tomorrow Never Knows so he was experimenting just as much or even more than the others

I ranked I Want to Tell you high, it is really good and love your perspective on For No One, great point on the indifferent thing. Thanks Mike!

As I've said before, this isn't one of my personal favourite Beatles albums, maybe because I came to it relatively late a few years after first falling in musical love with the likes of Help! and Rubber Soul - but I respect the heck out of it, and I can certainly understand why you guys dig it so much, yes...?
PS: Fair play to all the other commenters below who singled Ringo out as the album's MVP - I heartily concur, yes...?!
Can't go that on Ringo but understand it. The pure creative force of Lennon and McCartney would be very difficult to not name one of the name the MVP of the album. Very well could be Ringo's best performance though. Thanks!

@@ReactionsToTheClassics We really seem to be on different wave lengths these past two records. Can't wait for Sgt Pepper. Just make that When I'm Sixty-four is in the top 5 and we won't have any problems.
haha umm....
Here are my picks:
14. Yellow Submarine (you guys hit the nail on the head. Fun song, fits the psychedelia of the album but on an album with so many standouts, something has to be at the bottom. It was nice of the lads to give Ringo a song on the LP.)
13. She Said She Said (this song, like Yellow Submarine for me, fits on the album but has never been a particular favourite of mine. I think lyrically it has a really interesting basis in reality, but musically doesn't reach the heights of so many other great Lennon tunes.)
12. Pepper, I developed a new appreciation for it, so now I hold it in higher regard and rank it more favourably )
11. Good Day Sunshine (bouncy, feel good McCartney track, but of all of McCartney's gems on here, something has to be last.)
10. Dr. Robert (I always loved that Lennon wrote a tune describing his and Harrison's first experience with LSD, in which their dentist essentially drugged them at a dinner by putting it in their coffee without their knowledge or consent. Maybe not Lennon's best song, but fits in with the psychedelic themes of the album)
9. Tomorrow Never Knows (the most innovative song The Beatles had done up to this point. Great closer for the album with incredible drumming by Ringo Starr. McCartney's experiments with tape loops was put to awesome use on this track. It's not my favourite Beatles tune in terms of melody by any stretch, but there is no denying the impact of this song and I don't think any other track on Revolver could have ended the LP in a better way.)
8. And Your Bird Can Sing (I love this song. Lennon thought this song was empty-probably because he puts a very high premium on the lyrics in his songs and rates them accordingly-but this song's groove and swagger makes it one of the most engaging on the whole album. The only thing is I wish is that it was longer.)
7. I Want To Tell You ( Harrison's songs really stand out to me on this album. They are all so different and well played/performed. The thing I love about this track in particular are the swells of harmony vocals that are both beautiful and slightly off kilter. Add to it that dissonant piano note underpinning the singer's difficulty articulating his tangled thoughts, and that memorable guitar lick, bringing it all together.)
6. Great song, great opener.)
5. I'm Only Sleeping (This song creates a mood that perfectly describes the drowsy feeling Lennon was describing in both body and mind-coming down after the insanity of Beatlemania as well as coming down from his then increasing escapism into pot and acid. The washes of backwards guitar really create a vibe)
4. For No One (This song is an often forgotten McCartney gem like Things We Said Today, I'm Looking Through You and Lovely Rita. It is poignant, painful and beautifully sung and played. A timeless song.)
3. Elanor Rigby (Can you tell I'm a Paul fan yet? This song is miraculous after the swinging rock of Taxman. Fantastic lyrical storytelling with all the Beatles contributing a lyric here and there, and that fantastic string section providing the song with both urgency and melancholy.)
2. Here There And Everywhere (What can I say about this song? Absolutely lovely with beautiful harmonies. McCartney at his finest)
1. The fade out at the end with McCartney really leaning into his vocals is fantastic, and like so many songs on this album, is over too soon.)
Great review as always, guys!
Thanks!

It is a great showing by Ringo!!! Thanks Cameron!
Great choices. Thanks!
MVP Paul. Notice to mention his contributions to Taxman, Tomorrow Never Knows.

4. For No One (It's beautiful, there are many other words to describe it but this is the most appropriate)
3. She Said She Said (Completely underrated, it slow pace makes it great)
2. Tomorrow Never Knows (Mind-blowing, mind-blowing, mind-blowing, the percussion and instruments are really powerful)
1. Eleanor Rigby (It's a simple song, at the same time it's probably the best Beatles song, or it's just close to being the one)

And to make room I would get rid of Love You To and Yellow Submarine.
Ya if those 2 were on it takes it even higher which is crazy!
Good video. I think 'love you to' is heavily underrated. In fact I think it's one of the best songs George Harrison wrote during the Beatles.
Thanks for watching!
Two songs from Revolver made the Top 50:
10. Eleanor Rigby
33. Yellow Submarine
haha Yellow Sub is the worst song on here
@@ReactionsToTheClassics That’s why it was the single and went to #1. Money talks, you know the rest.
Exactly but having a #1 record does not make a song quality, could list a thousand songs to illustrate that
@@ReactionsToTheClassics Paul’s adage is along the lines of ‘if people part with their pennies, that’s the bottom line’.
Thanks for the incisive commentary on this masterful album!

I do not see any musical value to Tomorrow Never Knows. Damn when we were a group of young
Hippie types we were always lifting the needle and skipping this song. We all hated it. To this day I think this is a hodgepodge of weird garbage. With she said she said a close second, from the bottom. John was doing heroin or L S D or both , it shows. Not even close to Here there and everywhere, or even Good day sunshine for that matter. IMHO
Can't wait!!
It is going to be a fun one!
No did not know that was the context. Makes it even more brilliant haha, thanks!

Nice list and WELL SAID!
I rather like the basic and rather lean 'rock' sounds on tracks like "Taxman", "She Said, She Said" and "And Your Bird Can Sing". too.
Great insight and agree Jedikiah!
No finer album has ever been made. My order would be 1. For No One 2. I'm Only Sleeping 3. She Said She Said 4. Eleanor Rigby 5. Here, There, and Everywhere 6. Taxman 7. Got To Get You Into My Life ... and then the second half.
Agree on no finer album!

Yellow Submarine may be the best worst song in their catalog. There’s your next Beatles ranking idea. Lol.
Great ranking of a great album.
Actually a really good idea and I agree on YS! Thanks Dal!
Paul is on She Said She Said. That rumor has already been debunked.
The new Revolver remix has a take with Paul playing bass
With the new remix, Giles Martin said that it is 100% Paul on bass
Mark Lewisohn said it has to be Paul playing bass because of the way it was recorded.
Thanks
Before watching I know Shawn's #5 (don't kill me) 😂
haha! Supposed to be a secret come on Shane O Mac!
Should include Paperback Writer/Rain also 1966
Nope just album. We realize all the singles that were released with each album. Pepper's being the most loaded BUT we will do these rankings for Past Masters when we get there and those songs will show up there. Thanks
@@ReactionsToTheClassics the reason this is a mistake as to what follows;
The "singles" to a large degree were connected to either an album or an ep recording session despite the slice and dice habits of American releases of 12or 11per side, prior to PEPPER
Furthermore Only A Northern song, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane and Magical Mystery Song were all recorded at same session for Pepper.
Peace
Since it’s “Revolver”, you should title it “LEAST Best to Best” not “Worst to Best.”
haha thanks George
An impossible task to rank these songs. I actually rated every song higher than you did. I accept this may have broken mathematics.
haha I totally get it Barry!

lol we get this ALL the time and it is so not true. Thanks
@@ReactionsToTheClassics name one.
My top five:
1- Here, There and Everywhere.
Great suggestion and thanks for sharing!

Coming to this late. Hate the lyrics of Doctor Robert. It's the worst song on the album.
