I absolutely love your approach to videos and tutorials. It cuts through the usual BS of other painting videos I watch and your advocacy for support of handicapable hobbyists and workarounds for people with physical limitations is inspiring. Keep up the amazing work.
Just came across your channel tonight and I've watched about 6 of your videos. I love your attitude toward the hobby. Not too tight and not too loose. Such a relief. Great stuff.
Outstanding. You don't give yourself enough credit my friend. The way you compensate for your weak spots in your painting. I'm loving it. I hope for your good health so you can continue our great hobby. These guys look great.
As a fellow disabled hobbyist this video really helped put my mind in the right place and encouraged me to get to work on my backlog that’s felt so insurmountable. Thank you so much ☺️
Dave. Man. Your idea of cutting corners is better than my A game. These minis are the bidness. Love the spin of the colour shift paint and the led in the main man’s bucket. Nice. You’re a boss with colour. Keep it up 👊🏼
The practical advice about painting, basing and modeling is always great with MS paint of course, but damn MS paint is so good at kindling my love for the hobby with the chill atmosphere, and attitude of accepting but striving for your creations. Also this is the only youtube channel where I actually look forward to the sponsored add inserts ( I don't think there were any in this video, but Tony is a marketing genius; he should get a raise).
First, I want to say you're a brave person for putting yourself out there like you do. It's something that I have had a hard time doing and leading with your chin like that should be positively acknowledged. Second, I think you might be selling yourself short by saying you're average.at painting. This is better than 75% of the stuff I see out there, more if you count all the people who don't get past the primer stage. Third, this video is an incredible tool out there that I'm going to share with any of the people who are newer into the hobby that are trying to get their work closer what they initially envisioned for their stuff. I think your style is very approachable for a newer painter, as opposed to a lot of stuff I see that is more about the later incremental improvement after you are already 80% of the way there.
My biggest issue is staying motivated. I feel like too little butter spread over too much bread, so to speak. I work too much and have a young family, on top of normal every day depression. Getting something accomplished really helps elevate me out of that state, but forcing my self to start painting lately has been really hard :( it’s so much easier to sit in front of the switch all night.
It is easier indeed! If you have to force yourself, and gives you guilt for not doing it you might be best putting it out of sight and mind until the hobby itch really needs scratching. Give it time, and it’ll feel as easy as the switch. At least that’s what I do when it comes to free time hobbying! I hope that helps. Enjoy the hobby, don’t force it! Big love.
Hi’ya Dave, so I’ve been watching your videos, and you have now given me so much inspiration and confidence to get back into miniature painting, despite having a disability. Thank you so much mate, big respect.
Watching the intro I was asking myself 'how did he paint them so amazingly shiny?' A few minutes later you told me how technique had moved my eyes to where you wanted me to look! They look amazing, and now I am looking for some Green Stuff World.
So impressive result, they look amazing! The bases are indeed great, they do add a few levels to the paints but more importantly; gives the minis life 😊 Stay strong and keep painting! Thank you for sharing. Cheers!
A friend introduced me to your channel last weekend. Have had a very quiet Saturday night. I've binged 18 of your videos. They've all been excellent. Quality content provided by an entertaining individual. You've had me laughing aloud more than a few times. Keep up the hard work!
Back in 2nd edition Warhammer my brother had a high elf army and I had dark elves. I painted all mine with purple helmets and could never understand why my brother and his mates thought that was so funny.
I'm seeing a DS9 thread developing and as someone who watched it all properly for the first time a couple of years ago I am delighted. They're nice bonus moments of 'Oh! I know that episode!'
It was my favourite as a kid. And i usually watch the Dominion War episodes once a year, usually at the gym or in the background. It's like the earthing rod of my life. Can watch it on the toilet too.
For someone who has an arthritic condition. I thought my swollen hands etc would stop me getting into the modeling side of Warhammer. Youve given me the confidence to go give it a go. So thank you
Nicely put! I think your advice to step back from time to time is really important. Take the time you have, friends. This hobby can be really good for your mind if you let it!
This is an inspiring video for someone who struggles with the finer details too. Your attitude to just enjoying the hobby and also painting some pretty damn rad stuff always draws me back to your videos!! Keep going my man!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Highlight of the video is the collection of big box Infinity Engine games at the start. Kudos. Still have all my BG1+2 maps and books from back in the day.
Haha, the collection has grown since! Really the most affordable retro games to collect these days! And so fun and unique to play. Think i've got an Icewind Dale too, you ever try that one?
@@MSPaints Yeah classics, I think I spent more time creating a perfect party than actually dungeon crawling on the IWD games. I have the EE editions now on GoG and Steam, the ease of use updates and additional content are great. Keep up the good content!
I just started hobbyting a few months ago , but just had a stroke on Monday and lost all the feeling oo on the left half o of my body. The doctors say I'm yuoung enough to recover, but you're videos have definitely been helping my mood
Sorry to hear that mate! Don’t push the hobby stuff too hard and go at a pace to keep it relaxing. I keep going when I really should stop sometimes, and I just sit angry painting! Angry painting isn’t good for anyone.
They're sending me home tomorrow and said with therapy everything should be back to normal. Hobby videos have kepty spirits up, plust about a week ago I convinced my girlfriend to try Underworlds by showing her your gateway video and some of the Warbands to see if she liked any. So now she's not allowed to back out. Lol
I cannot thank you enough for all the tips. Your videos are well made, and really helpful. Especially in regards to my similar neurological difficulties. Love the tips on how to continue a long term project, even as physical limitations present themselves further.
Dude you are the basing lord for sure, I wish you would break down your process in more steps and really walk us through all the ingredients required, that was pretty cool how you added all that dry material then hit it with some kind of glue liquid and then after it set up you just added flowers and grass tufts!
Going back and watching through your older videos, love your content man! What made me want to comment though was seeing those box copies of Baldurs Gate and Planescape back there, good shit!
Hey Dave. You have hit the nail on the head for many of us in the hobby who fall down the rabbit hole of detail, detail, detail. I'm always thinking of how others will judge my results. I know I shouldn't, but hey that's me lol. Being really badly colour blind I've built up a set of skills that assist me in the way I paint things, and totally avoid techniques such as wet blending and layering (trust me, the results are usually horrific lol), so stick to shades and dry brushing instead. There's an awful lot of pressure put on people to achieve Golden Demon painting level and not enough encouragement to just be as good as we are comfortable with being. Thanks once again for a great vid, and the mini's look excellent. Love the LED effect.
Yes mate, it’s all about shrugging away that expectation. Very hard when you encounter other people in the hobby that can’t shake it off. Just always remember you’re supposed to enjoy it! Respect to you for beating the colour blind, bud!

I saw they turned out better, faster, than my more ‘serious’ efforts. And making peace with those rising/falling curves of experience vs ability - if I can’t see or control the brush well enough to nail a tiny detail without spending too much time on it, then blend it into the background and move on. I’ll still try to paint eyes on heroes, but I’m comfortable skipping them when I can’t, and I plan from the start to skip them on the rank and file marching behind the leaders.
@@oldschoolfrp2326 Yeah man, had the same situation when i came across my first lot of board game minis that didn't QUITE look like the 3d renders in the press pack.
