This is where you accept McFarlane had no plan for Spawn after the first 4 issues. Miller was working on fumes.
Big time on McFarlane, I think he just assumed he'd come up with something. Miller I want to give more credit to... he did still have That Yellow Bastard and 300 after this, although that's not a lot, and there ain't much else.
I remember reading this and you can tell Frankie Poo didn't give a shit about Spawn, and wrote him as a Jabroni.
Jabroni is a good way to put it. Doesn't help that Spawn isn't a character, but yeah, Frank's just not interested in this bullshit. He'll take the check, that's about it.

Well... this is the one that led to the shoelace, and then they retconned it so it wasn't Batman.

Great vid! Blood Force team up! This was one I always wanted to get my hands on, but never did. Doesn't look like I missed out on anything though. I expected a better looking Batman. It looks like he drew Spawn in the pencils, and then changed it to Batman in the inks. Batman even has the pointy Spawn cape shoulder pads in the first few pages, and through most of the comic. And that double spread with them looks awkward, like Spawn is ridding bitch on the Batcycle, haha.
No, it's really not worth hunting down. Batman/ Judge Dredd is by far the superior book, and should be checked out by everyone.
The weird Batman cape is pretty similar to how Todd was drawing him when he had that stint on Batman in the late 80s, I think the only change he made was to give him the shorter ears, sort of a nod to Frank. And yeah, there's no shots here that look particularly great; a lot of drawing on some, but for not much of a purpose.
I bought this book new when it came out, god getting old, but yea i can remember being super disappointed in it, hell azrael was batman at the time so you can imagine my excitement to aee this, unfortunately i think it was just too early, spawn had almost no background to work with
Yeah, but in terms of sales it was right on time- if they'd tried this even a couple of years later comics was not making anywhere near the amount of money it was in 1994, and money I think is the only real motivator behind this.
Take a drink every time Todd forgets if Spawn is wearing his mask or not from page to page.

If I can make the zombie head look cool I'll do that, if not I'll go mask. The kids don't care anyway.

I didn't even know this came out honestly. And Frank Miller wrote this? Does that mean that Frank also did breakdowns / storytelling or did Todd do most of that cause Frank's storytelling was some of the best IMO. Todd's not so much! :D
I don't think there's much of a chance Frank touched any layouts on this- I don't think he gave much of a shit, he wasn't that kind of invested.
