Dale Keown and PITT - do you like a riff on Hulk and a boy stand in for Dale? Sam Keith and the Maxx - do you like actually having to read a comic, an exploration of trauma, oh and the main character is actually Julie? Jae Lee and Hellshock - do you like The Crow? Then read The Crow. LOL Lesson here, not everyone has a great creative idea (Jay Lee) and probably should stick to letting writers write him draw.
Yeah, but it was the time for it. I do blame Todd (and Erik a bit). Todd had proven that you could sell millions of copies of a book off the strength of cool art and zero writing talent, and Erik was actually a successful writer-artist, which was good but maybe sent the wrong message.
@mosesmoorhouse Lol Nah, if he’d made an attempt I'd have taken it easy on him. This wasn't some unknown at a Kinko's, this was an established pro with basically unlimited resources. He could have hired a writer, or an editor.
McGuinness syndrome, too. Also, one of the things an editor would have been useful for is to advice it may not be a great idea to show rejected material that's actually better than the published one. Finally, quite ironic that Jae Lee's shortcuts become all the more evident when he slows down.
Ha, yeah, cover and interiors. I mean I don't think it mattered too much in this case, but as a general rule, yeah- maybe don't constantly go "This is the comic you COULD have had..." Also I'd never heard that about McGuiness, and I've never really read his stuff, so that's surprising to hear. I thought he was kind of universally beloved- but then a couple of years ago I would have thought the same thing about Lee, Platt or Silvestri.
Jose's last name: Vee-ya-ru-be-uh technically with the double R it should be rolled but not native speakers, it's fine. so. many. copier. photographs as backgrounds. and the gun.
Todd saying about writers being redundant? Yeah, Gaiman got a lot by being redundant to Todd 😈 On the second issue it seems Jae Lee is having Bachalo as an influence... Good for Lee for producing Hellshock, somewhere he said he learned a lot from the experience, but this comic is sh1t
Yeah, it's pretty much unreadable. I can kind of see a Bachalo influence, particularly with the kid- you never hear a lot about Bachalo, but I always thought his stuff was awesome.
@@teambloodforce I have a soft spot for early Bachalo, most of his Vertigo output up to Generation X. His later stuff, more in the heels of Madureira, not so much.
@@luciferfernandez7094 Yeah, I hadn't picked up much of his later stuff, I did see that he got very cartoony- although I did get a couple of his Doctor Strange trtades, which are pretty good. Like it's no Death miniseries, but it's pretty good.
JAE LEE!!! Churning out 16 Pages in 1 hour!

@@teambloodforce I'm not going to fault anyone for getting the easy money, of course
You really showed that kid at his first attempt at a self creation

this book made me feel like i was on drug before i was doing drugs.
@@SidewaysBurnouts Shit, a pregame comic. Those are rare.
That Savage Dragon ad is a parody of an ad that was running in other Image titles during this time for another comic ( Shadowhawk, I think?).
Ah, was that what it was? I know he also liked poking fun at Todd's guest writers, so that would make sense.
I don’t mind Jae swinging for the fences with this, it’s not great but he’s gone on to do great things
Great vid! Sometimes it was a good thing I stopped buying comics when I did. I didn't have to witness this kind of travesty first hand, haha.
Lol, yeah, it ain't great. But there's always good comics and there's always shit comics, it's just what you have a nose for.

Yeah, I'm never really a fan of photos or photocopies; although I think Mike Dringenberg used them to an interesting effect in his early Sandman run.
