      It was known before officially announced, they did a "Matrix" movie style screen shot with the main character's i.d. card. Instead of saying Sept. 11th 2001 like the 1999 Matrix movie, Loki's i.d. said "fluid" in the sexual category. "Fluid" is a well known term for bisexual.

    Loki is a God, and can change form at will. That alone kinda removes him from labels like bisexual, even pansexual doesn't cover it. There's lots of stories about gods even changing into various creatures and having sex with them, not just people. it's a common theme in most ancient religions.

      @@J-L79 From my understanding in the show itself they never mention his sexuality, all he does is say that he has romanced men and women. Bjorn is a perfect example of manliness that contradicts the twisted "toxic" masculinity theory. He's confident and unwavering in his beliefs; and his loving kindness he displays for his dog reveals he is a strong person. A weak man is afraid to display love or compassion. Marvel hasn't had a single creative idea in years. There's a reason they're getting trashed and demolished in sales from manga and anime, and it's because the first "new" idea they've had is woking the universe, sure lets make loki lgbtq, lets take away Falcon, the first black superhero that didn't have "black" in his name and make him black cap instead, because that isn't regressive at all. Lets add in trailblazer, snowflake, safespace and "B-Negative" the first woke superhero lineup, yaaay! They're idiots and no one likes it and the declining sales are our fault for being bigots, even though the people they're pandering too hate them too. They have no imagination, no story to tell, just "be more woke you filthy peasants.

      @@charlieberry7562 sure, I can agree with that if it's their own "alien god" sort of take on it. And I suppose the mythology itself would change over time through word of mouth; eventually the myth could include Loki being some sort of gender fluid guy (especially if it changed in the 21st century). But it hasn't changed to include that stuff so I believe, in the least, the distinction has to be made (as you've done) that Marvel Loki is sort of their own IP, different from the actual mythology it stemmed from.
      Being their own version, Marvel changing their Loki to be gender fluid doesn't change the original mythological character. And if that's the case, it doesn't matter much to me what they do with their character. Creative development is certainly welcome in general. My comment is in response to persons who would (and do) say shifting shape between male and female means you have no actual gender and therefore are gender fluid. And to those who would say they are actually the same character. If Marvel expresses creative development with their Loki, I don't see it as ruining mythology because I see it as just that, their seperate character. I think maybe Bjorn's (and mine for the most part) opinion is that over time, all people will know of Loki is Marvel's version and think the Norse created that version originally. There are certain aspects of the myths I'm sure old Norse people would want people for all time to know like, (their) Loki is a "male" shapeshifter.

      It is, which shows the hypocrisy of it all. They favor one religion over another, so it's not surprising at all, Christians have dealt with it for quite some time now (but a majority have conformed to the world, so many accept this ideology). Asians have recently entered the equation more so, but my guess is when it comes to beliefs...they don't care. They water them down and since majority of people don't practice or have good knowledge of their culture or beliefs there from, they accept it.

If I’m not mistaken it would typically be referred to as Revelation after the book in the Bible or as the Second Coming. I also find it very unlikely that it was influenced by Norse culture as it’s not a holiday but events described in the Bible itself. That’s not to say that Holidays haven’t been adopted by the Catholic Church in order to make the transition for those converting to it easier, I’m perfectly comfortable admitting that. As far as Marvel Comics go, which is what the Marvel Studios claims to base itself upon, there Loki primarily was depicted as a straight dude who was into women-only and was also married to Sigyn and had affairs with other females and would surround himself with hot female servants whenever he'd sit in his evil castle planning his schemes. He was also a father to Slepnier, but it was never explained how exactly. So accounting for the PG-demographic of CBs in the 60s, I very much doubt he birthed Slepnier naturally, so it was most likely magic - he poured his blood on horses's hair and there was born a monstrous super horse or something. He was also masculine, barbaric in appearance and personality, and wasn't really a beautiful looking fella. So, a far cry from a cutesy bi fantasy all the fans of MCU Loki paint in their head when thinking of the character.

I just watch this video after watching the same topic by The Welsh Viking and the comment sections for these two videos are like black and white (white being TWV and black being this comment section due to all the hatred and intolerance). There seems to be a general annoyance in this group with the idea of change (in this case, the push of more tolerant, previously unacceptable views by the media) which does seem to have religious links in some cases and in others, lack of knowledge and societal insulation. All lack the ability to morally rationalise for these reasons.

    I don't care about Marvel and their "woke" agenda, nor do I care for LGBTQ politics. But Loki is complex and is certainly a hermaphroditic God, (or Giant depending on perspective.) He takes the form of a mare and allows the Stallion Svafilfari to mate with him. He doesn't magically create the foal, he lives as a mare for the full gestation of his offspring which when grown is given to Woden as the horse Sleipnir. 😆 Thunor engages in a little cross-dressing to regain his Hammer (Thor doesn't have hangups) but Loki's actions are quite different, actually becoming female and birthing offspring. And according to the Lokasenna, Odin and he became blood brothers. 🤔 Fascinating!

    • @wolfmauler
      @wolfmauler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, I would point out that the most infamous shape shifter and trickster in our Northern stories is Odin. He is singleminded in his pursuit of knowledge and will let no law, no moral code or bond of friendship get in his way.

    So I'm a "bi pagan", if I need to label myself for the understanding of others, I also follow an eclectic Celtic/Norse path as I am british and a mix of these cultures genetically (not that you have to be). I am not offended by anything said in this video, I agree that to massively simplify any mythological character, who is an embodiment of universal concepts into a modern human label is lazy, and massively misses an opportunity to show sexuality as a spectrum and the labels as human constructs. On the "cultural appropriation"; marvel is fine for some mindless entertainment but we really should not expect it to be an ambassador of viking culture, whereas supposedly historical shows like last kingdom or Vikings, do more to perpetuate sterotypes we know to be false, perhaps we should demand better accuracy from those shows, or stop expecting media to be the conveyors of our culture? Have seen the welsh Vikings video on this subject? I think he covers it quite well.
