I agree with you, So many on TH-cam claim to have hooded eyes and apparently have no clue what a hooded eye looks like. You make it possible for those of us who actually have hooded eyes, to get the right looks. That's why I love your channel!
Thank you!!! I completely agree...sometimes I want to comment "you DON'T have hooded eyes!!!!" but I refrain. Sure, there are degrees of "hoodedness" but if you have a discernible crease when looking directly into the mirror, it is not a really a hooded eye. In my opinion anyway!
VintageModiste , you have to love it when you watch a tutorial dedicated to hooded eyes and the gal doing the tutorial has about 5 inches of eyelid space!!! LOLOL
Risa, you are the best on TH-cam at doing tutorials and explaining each step thoroughly! I also appreciate you not using the heavy camera filters so we can get a more realistic picture on how the look will appear in everyday life. Excellent tutorial!👍
laBuffiesuzanne Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I agree that smoothing filters make US(the TH-camr) looks miles better, it does give the viewers an unrealistic expectation. My other camera has a built in smoother that I can't turn off, so I try to use that one mostly for non-tutorial videos.
laBuffiesuzanne I had no idea that camera filters are being used in this way. I thought the topic of filters I'd hear mentioned was to do with image stabilization, but this makes so much more sense to me, and totally explains why I love this channel so much! I'm 39 and only just realized that I have hooded eyes, and thank God there is someone out there explaining so thoroughly the way to work with this eye shape, as I've always wanted to wear glamorous eye looks, but have literally been so disheartened by my results, and hugely disappointed wondering what I'm doing so wrong, purchasing palette after palette, brush after brush, primer after primer, (you get the point!) following tutorials to a T, and in 39 years never had 1 single successful eye look until 10 mins ago, and I feel like I won the lottery!!! It's like it finally clicked, it all makes sense, and I feel like a whole new world of possibilities awaits me (not to mention a mountain of palettes I've shamefully accumulated after each unsuccessful attempt! lol 😲🤣 I am glad to know I'm not the only one who's had difficulties getting it right, though i wouldn't wish the disappointment of hundreds of failed attempts over a lifetime on anyone. And if she's not using the filters the other bloggers are using that's even more remarkable as she's insanely beautiful, and it seems to radiate from without as well. I'm rambling, but I feel like I have been initiated into an awesome sisterhood that rocks the hooded eye!! Thanks so much for posting such informative, fun and fabulous videos which have allowed me to overcome this lifelong challenge before I hit 40... I have been to the top of the mountain, and it is good!!! 🤗😁💖😙🤘🏼👌👍💪🏼👁🎨⛰🌄🦄🌈🏆🎉🎖
I loved this tutorial as well. Thank you so much for really dedicating time for tutorials to help us hooded eye gals. I love the look and will certainly recreate this. XO
I agree also. I've seen people say they have hooded eyes and they really don't. Mine are exactly like yours. I've just learned to do a wing finally because of it. Your videos help me so much!!!! Same age same skin type SUPER OILY same shaped eyes. I could watch your videos all day long.
So glad I found you! My eyes are just like yours and you did a tutorial I can finally follow! I've watched so many hooded eye tutorials and they never seem to be able to do a true hooded eye. Thanks!
I'M so thrilled I found your channel. you cater to us hooded eyes gals and I appreciate you for it. I can't say thank you enough. Your tutorials are thorough and easy to understand. Thank you.
Risa you should NEVER apologize for any makeup you wear!! I wear false lashes everyday with just liner & no shadow, I love them & make no apologies for it. False lashes make even a plain eye look fabulous. People have WAY too much to say about what other women are wearing, doing etc. If they make you feel glamorous, sexy etc wear them ;)
Risa has quickly become one of my favorite Beauty TH-cam makeup artists. I started out a couple years ago with Lisa Eldridge and have really gone through many TH-camrs to find my few favorites. I love the way Risa is so down to earth and real - and also gets in there to show you the real makeup and skin, how it looks and how it's really applied. Very very talented. Really a gem of a makeup artist. MUCH APPRECIATION TO YOU RISA 😊
I just found your channel and I am so glad I did. There aren't many utubers for us "40 somethings" and sometimes I feel like I am not supposed to wear much makeup anymore because I am more mature. I still have a youthful appearance and I am very health conscious, take care of my skin, and workout everyday and I feel like I can still rock good makeup. You have reaffirmed that feeling for me so thank you!!😊
Hey rosa! So refreshing to see a real makeup artist that has actually been in the industry teach makeup! I've been an amateur makeup artist too for 20 years! And I'm 34yrs old! Lol! All these techniques aren't new! Kevin aucoin thought me to contour when I was in high school! Lol! Love your videos.
Thank you so much for making these videos - I'm 45 and have such a difficult time making my eyes look better - I've tried all the other TH-cam videos for younger eyes and they don't get me where I'd like to be - you've given me such wonderfu ideas!
I to have hooded eyes, I used to wear eye-shadow all the time in my younger days, after having my children I'd do my whole makeup routine minus shadow, with eyeliner and mascara only (due to time). Well I'm home more now due to a disability. I wanted to get back into a daily routine, so I started watching TH-cam lol. I'm getting back into the eye-shadow routine again but couldn't remember all those years ago how I did it. I've been trying and trying and I'm not getting the looks that are being shown, until now tonight I've come across your videos and I'll tell you your techniques and demos are so on point, I'm so happy I've come across your channel. You go step by step and I totally understand and can follow every technique your doing. YAAAAAY I'm finally gonna be able to achieve a descent look and not look so unblended lol. I do get compliments but I'm not satisfied with the look, if you know what I mean. Sorry soooo long, I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my makeup and hair I always have been, its called OCD!! Long story short I thought it was my tools, the makeup brands, so I spent to much money on new higher end makeup when all I really needed was to come across your videos sooner!! Lol....Thank you so so much, I'm your fan for life!! ❤❤😇😇❤❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial ! I really appreciated to find out I wasn't the only one who couldn't relate with TH-camrs who make hooded eye tutorials when their eyes are not hooded , I cannot relate to them at all ... thank you so much for being authentic ! 🤗
Love this eye look so much. I have Asian hooded eyes and always struggle with eye makeup. Your videos are quite easy to follow and I found very informative for a beginner like me. Thank you so much from a new subscriber :)
Love love love. Such helpful info. I tried the halo on my hooded eyes, but I haven't been able to make them symmetrical yet. I'll try again tho. Thank you
Hi, Risa! Thanks for another great video. I always enjoy your straight forward upbeat demeanor. Request: I have very light skin and eye shadow looks dark or muddy. Please consider making a no eyeshadow look for hooded eyes using fewer than 3 natural colors.
I love all your videos. You are an amazing teacher, I actually learn from your video's. I have an extremely hooded eye and I have learned from your videos. Thank youuuuu!!
So for the longest time I have been trying to find the right brush for me to contour my nose. why thr heck did i never try my finger. Thank you for your videos. I found them extremely informative.
Great look and love your channel. I agree some people do not get hooded eyes mine are to my lashes any more and I'm going to pin them up. lol you are much younger than I am but can get a lot from you and modify them for myself. Thank you so much.
I hear you Denise! My Aunt did have surgery to correct her hooded eyes because it was impacting her vision. I'm glad you are able to modify these techniques a bit to make them work for you. Thank you for watching and commenting!
One of the reasons I really love your tutorials is because we have very similar eyes. Mine are hooded but way more wrinkly than yours. I definitely know my eyes are hooded especially when I attempt a wing and it's in one place with my eyes closed and in another place once I open my eyes. It literally disappears and looks crazy on me! LOL I gave up on wings! ❤❤❤
I've been wanting to start a TH-cam channel but I think I'm too old for it or I'm not pretty enough or I'm too old, late to the game, but man you're really inspiring me! Your gorgeous and talented and s true artist
I love your videos! I love how zoomed in you get! I cant wait until you get a little better at filming because your skill is definitely advanced. Filming and editing must be so much work and hard to get the hang of, not to mention expensive! (With all the equipment) Thank you for mixing up the you tube content! Something different, something we can relate to! Very informative!
Risa, you talked about in another video about trying to remove your widow's peak. I just wanted to tell you that I love it on you! It makes you look very sophisticated and glamorous ❤
You have real hooded eyes and your tutorials are very helpful! Thank you! I have oily & heavy hooded eyes and am wondering how Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara holds up?
You are correct Risa! That one reason I'm in your first 1000 member group! Because I have hooded eyes too. You are really good at tutorial and I really enjoy your ideas. Happy weekend to you.
Gurrrllllll, you are speaking the truth. I have EXTREME HOODED EYES. Some youtubers I see doing hooded eye tutorials, I be like " Girl those are not hooded eyes." I have my own channel and I will be doing eyeshadow for hooded eyes as their are soooooo many people with extreme hooded eyes soon. It took me a long time to perfect shadow for my eyes. Im happy you are providing great content for hooded eyes😘😘😘😘😘😘
Finally, someone who tells the truth regarding hooded eyes. My eyes are terribly hooded and I always feel bad when watching videos of so-called hooded eyes that are not hooded at all! How do you make the BTS mascara work? I love its effect, but it smudges terribly on my hood :(
Thank you for coming into my life!!! No wonder I've always had more luck with starting with my lids, but I always doubted myself, but no more! Cause your a professional and a damn good one! 💋💋💋
I see these you tubers using the tarte shape tape and doing the HUGE triangle under the eyes with so much product and I don't get it!!!!! I only use a few dots and it is so so much and such full coverage. I don't know how they can do that without being a cakey mess. It doesn't make sense to me.
Really apreciatiating these hooded lids videos. I’m 54 with hooded eyes is odd although I have normal to dry skin on face my eyes get oily. No eyeshadow stays for even half an hour. I‘ve started using primer before dreaming of applying any more eyeshadows. It does help greatly but even with primer I return home and all I see is a shiny lid. Color gone sadly so I been packing my eyeshadows with both fingers and powder hoping it stays. Is a real struggle! Need to try that tight lining method did a few times 100 years ago. I like a natural look but dream of learning the smoky eye. I’m pretty cool toned so I have to go easy with my brushes and don’t apply anything harsh except on eyes I would like them to show. Hazel green eyes. Loving the warm colors can’t get enough of it! Makes them pop! Thanks so much for this and the before videos! 👀👁👀👁👀👁👀👁👀👁👀👁
I hear people here on TH-cam say they have hooded eyes, and I'm like "yeah, kind of, but I have more hooded eyes than you, this technique wouldn't work in me". It is so refreshing to see someone with similar eye shape as me!
YESSS THANK YOU I'm so glad you are showing the Amazing concealer I have wanted to see a good honest review on this concealer I also want to thank you for your intro about hooded eyes I had to pause the video to type this when you started with the amazing concealer I am so tired of seeing Tarte shape tape on the majority of other videos Thank u
my eyes are very similar to yours! Normally, I only put a medium brown all over my lid, a skin tone shade all over from crease to brow, then barely blend together (you cant see crease anyways), then I "line" my eyes with a dark brown shadow and smoke it out just a bit into the medium brown lid. I normally don't do a wing and don't line the bottom or tightline because I have very light eyes and there is a FINE LINE of how much makeup I can wear before it looks too dark haha. I never use shimmer, only matte. I will have to try this type of look! I'm getting married in July and plan on doing my own makeup!! eeek!!
I found your channel today (and subscribed) and I have to say I love the fact you are not like normal you tubers. I now know why I have trouble with my eye make up (I don't wear it often enough) I have hooded eyes...I didn't realise there was terms for this and tricks...so I am so glad I found you and can't wait to try out some of the techniques...well done and keep up the good work 😉
+Anita aka The Crafting Insomniac Hi Anita! Welcome to my channel, I'm so happy you discovered me! Hooded eyes can be challenging, but you will find lots of tutorials here that will hopefully be very helpful. Be sure to check out my video for the 5 best makeup brushes for hooded eyes, I think that will be very useful information to you as well! 😃
I completely agree with you.....my eyes too are hooded to the point where the top fleshy part all but rests on my lashes.....I can just about see the inner third of my actual lid xxx...top vid 😊💕xxx
I'm so glad I found your channel....I come over from Stephanie's channel when y'all did 30 products over 30. By the way I freaking loved all three of you gals. Thanks a bunch for all that. I'll be 40 in a few weeks 💁🏻 love the hooded eye vid...I'm a hooded eye gal. It drives me crazy cause my left eye is less hood than my right, not by much but still it drives me crazy. This was an excellent vid thanks a bunch.
Could this technique work with lighter or more sheer colors? Also, Lining under the eye looks super harsh on my. Could I just line the outer 1/4 of the bottom lash line?
Hi Risa:) I like your videos so much!💕I'm close to your age and I have hooded eyes as well. I have really oily lids. I use Mac Paint Pot. My shadows stay all day when I use it, but after few hours I feel my lids kind of wet and oily. Do you think Mac Prep & Prime 24 Hr is better than Mac Paint Pot? Thank you
How did you learn to do this? I’ve never seen anything close to it as far as blending from the lid up. I stink at the windshield wiper technique so hopefully this works for me!:)
Hi Risa! I recently purchased makeup geek eyeshadow in Creme Brûlée and Cocoa bear so I could follow your technique for hooded eyes and I can’t remember the name of the video! Can you please post the link or tell me the name. Thank you!!!
I too have the hooded eye and so when iam doing a halo or a eye look with a glitter shade on the lid I'll apply it almost lastima but right before the darkest color on the outer V if that makes any sence,, it keeps any of the glittery eyeshadow from transfering to my hood.. Hope it helps
Hi! Very rarely. I just don't seem to have much time these days. My rates and other information are on my sad, ignored website www.risadoesmakeup.com :)
I agree with you, So many on TH-cam claim to have hooded eyes and apparently have no clue what a hooded eye looks like. You make it possible for those of us who actually have hooded eyes, to get the right looks. That's why I love your channel!

Absolutely!!!!
Oh hell yes - SO ANNOYING!
VintageModiste , you have to love it when you watch a tutorial dedicated to hooded eyes and the gal doing the tutorial has about 5 inches of eyelid space!!! LOLOL
Yes, some eyes are not hooded at all. Thanks for that kind of video, I'll try to recreate it.
i really like how you do the extreme close ups! it helps me to see the true application
Risa, you are the best on TH-cam at doing tutorials and explaining each step thoroughly! I also appreciate you not using the heavy camera filters so we can get a more realistic picture on how the look will appear in everyday life. Excellent tutorial!👍

I’m binging on your hooded eye tutorials today. I picked up a few more tips this time! More practice!
Thank you so much for making these videos - I'm 45 and have such a difficult time making my eyes look better - I've tried all the other TH-cam videos for younger eyes and they don't get me where I'd like to be - you've given me such wonderfu ideas!

I love a halo eye. You make it look so easy! The rest of your look was beautiful too!
Love love love. Such helpful info. I tried the halo on my hooded eyes, but I haven't been able to make them symmetrical yet. I'll try again tho. Thank you
Thanks for your honesty and great technique for hooded eyes. Great look! Love your videos
Hi, Risa! Thanks for another great video. I always enjoy your straight forward upbeat demeanor.
Request: I have very light skin and eye shadow looks dark or muddy. Please consider making a no eyeshadow look for hooded eyes using fewer than 3 natural colors.
Amazing, thank you, and I have the chocolate bar so I'm definitely going to try and do this look!
So glad I found you! Our eye shapes and the amount of "hood" are similar.
Just gorgeous! Love the colors you chose and how simple you made it look.
Such a great tutorial! I love your honesty on products- thank you!

I love all your videos. You are an amazing teacher, I actually learn from your video's. I have an extremely hooded eye and I have learned from your videos. Thank youuuuu!!

I hear you Denise! My Aunt did have surgery to correct her hooded eyes because it was impacting her vision. I'm glad you are able to modify these techniques a bit to make them work for you. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Awesome tutorial thanks so much
you are soooo right! tarte (love tarte) but too thick for my mature skin!
I have deep set hooded eyes and they are oily. Love you tutorials.

You made a beautiful Halo eye look so easy; gotta try that now 😊
your great at what you do!ty!i was hoping to find a tutorial to show winged liner from you.have u made any?
New subscriber here and I'm glad you used the Chocolate Bar palette because I haven't been giving mine enough love lately.
One of the reasons I really love your tutorials is because we have very similar eyes. Mine are hooded but way more wrinkly than yours. Very pretty!!! You gave such great instructions too. Thanks!
I've been wanting to start a TH-cam channel but I think I'm too old for it or I'm not pretty enough or I'm too old, late to the game, but man you're really inspiring me! Your gorgeous and talented and s true artist

Risa thank you so much. You did a great job!
You look beautiful and your eyes are to die for. Glad I found your real channel. Going to try this eye shadow look.
+Glory Thank you so much! I hope your eye makeup comes out great!
Risa, you talked about in another video about trying to remove your widow's peak. I just wanted to tell you that I love it on you! It makes you look very sophisticated and glamorous ❤
Thank you Renee! I really wish I had never tried to get rid of it, this growing out phase is annoying! lol
My hooded eyes look so similar to yours thanks for sharing and helping, I also have oily eyelids at almost 44 yrs old
You have real hooded eyes and your tutorials are very helpful! Thank you! I have oily & heavy hooded eyes and am wondering how Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara holds up?
Wonderful tutorial. I can’t wait to try this. Thank you.

I know! They use WAY too much!!
Patty osgood I agree. They don't need a full coverage concealer to use for highlighting purposes.
Agreed! That much concealer also makes my eyes look squinty.
Really apreciatiating these hooded lids videos. I’m 54 with hooded eyes is odd although I have normal to dry skin on face my eyes get oily. No eyeshadow stays for even half an hour. LOVED this video! I have always wanted to try the halo look. Can you tell me what Smith brush you used and where you bought it? Thanks so much!
Ann Agresta yes, I will add it the description box in just a few minutes! Check back soon! I can't believe I forgot to add it.
Thank you! I just ordered it :)
I love your tutorials, have learned alot from it💕
You love your Smashbox brush!!😃
So funny that you open this about finding the TH-camr who's eyes look like yours. For me, that's you! Lol. Thank you for all that you do💖
😘
I hear people here on TH-cam say they have hooded eyes, and I'm like "yeah, kind of, but I have more hooded eyes than you, this technique wouldn't work in me". It is so refreshing to see someone with similar eye shape as me!

my eyes are very similar to yours!
I could never figure out why my eye shadow never looked quite right. Took me 53 years to learn I had hooded eyes, lol.
So true. Everything you said in your intro-so freakin' true.
Really love this look :)
Thank you
Love that Smith Brush #253 you have. Is there another brand that has a similar brush? I can't seem to order this brand from Canada.
How did you learn to do this? I’ve never seen anything close to it as far as blending from the lid up. I stink at the windshield wiper technique so hopefully this works for me!:)
You are so talented! I think I will give this a try and see if it will work on my eyes. 😊😊❤😊😊
Best hooded tutorial.
Very beautiful ....and now i want that Flower trio! lol Have a great day !
Thank you! I hope you have a great day as well!
Those eyes 😍😍 loved the tutorial 👍
Love this
Lashes are so expensive. Do you have to use a new pair everytime or can you reuse them?
Hi Risa! I recently purchased makeup geek eyeshadow in Creme Brûlée and Cocoa bear so I could follow your technique for hooded eyes and I can’t remember the name of the video! Can you please post the link or tell me the name. Thank you!!!
Thank you
Love your videos💖💖💖‼
Another fantastic video xx your eyes are such a beautiful colour xx
Tracy Shaw Thank you!
Really nice tutorial, I too have hooded eyes! The struggle is real :)
It sure is! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video! I have wanted to learn how to do a halo eye. This was very helpful. Thank you. : o )
Hi Risa do you still give makeup lessons?
Hi! Very rarely. I just don't seem to have much time these days. My rates and other information are on my sad, ignored website www.risadoesmakeup.com :)
I have the opposite problem. I have huge eyes & finding lashes that are long enough end to end is hard. Any suggestions?
Oh wow, I wish I had that problem you lucky lady!!! Try Koko Lashes. They have many styles that are really long, and not too expensive.
Risa Does Makeup- Thanks, Risa! I'll check them out.
hey beautiful. i loooove that look it is elegant yet super wearable.....exactly what i love and wooooow your blue eyes.....super beautiful
Thank you Alana!

I will do a tutorial addressing that soon, because i actually have the same problem!!
Absolutely gorgeous ❤️❤️
Thank you!
