Liz! I cannot say enough good things about this video. So practical, thank you for telling people not to go into debt for this. Financial literacy is so hard for some people, and you really do break it down, the things you need to think about.. Addressing anxiety and being so honest about your struggles and experience. This is such a practical video for traveling in general, and THEN telling folks they can come sit with you or we can come sit with you. That is just so sweet and kind. So many 💚💚💚💚💚💚🧶🧶🧶🧶.
Thanks so much for the compliments and for tuning in. I really appreciate the kind words! I am planning to make another video about what my goals are for this year!
Thank you, Liz. I have a confession to make….. I have never been to a wool or fibre festival of any kind because I have been too intimidated to go. I have been knitting for decades (four of them, to be precise), but I was taught very basic things and have picked up any other knowledge on my own, so I know I would be the least educated person in the room, which is the basis of my anxiety about it. After listening to you, I am going to make it my goal for 2024 to go to one. Seeing the pure joy on your face as you recount your experience has given me the ‘oomph’ I needed to make that decision, so I really do thank you❣️❣️❣️
Aw I love that! There are knitters of all levels there so do not worry. I found that if I had a question a vendor or someone nearby was so happy to answer. I learned a lot!
I truly enjoy watching your videos. It was very helpful for planning for the upcoming Sheep and Wool Festival in Jefferson, WI. Recently I learned in planning a Back to School (Hat and Mitten) Make -A-Long to say Fiber Artists. That way knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners, etc. all know that everyone is included and welcome to the event. It is so kind of you to welcome others to sit by you on the hill. You'll have a fabulous time!
Thank you for talking about the social aspects! I feel our hobby is super solo and also struggle with interactions. So it’s a challenge for me to even go to a knit night. Taking a class at my first WI Sheep and Wool festival next week and hope to take your pointers with me.
Watching this on Rhinebeck Saturday, and must admit that I’m happy and dry at home! Have been before, and thoroughly enjoyed, but will enjoy homemade pie here tonight with my husband! Knitters are the best-we willingly share knowledge and yarns whenever needed! Cheers to our group!🤩🧶👏🥰
Hello from across the Pond in England! The chances of ever getting to Rhinebeck are less than remote, but I love to hear about it; likewise other yarn festivals wherever they are. Great tips - and I would fully endorse the HAND WIPES! Hands face, bottoms (oops can I say that?😂) essential and easy to pack. I’d also add, decide , if you are going with or meeting up with chums, how you are going to do your viewing/shopping. I love to be with people, but I [refer to walk round on my own, meeting up at frequent previously arranged times/places. You know where you want to be, what you want to see. It may not be what your friend wants to look at. Do your own thing then meet up to exchange stories and what you’ve bought. Great podcast, thank you - oh and I loved the bit about costume changes! 😂 I always pack for every conceivable eventuality and always regret it - I never learn…
That is so true. Taking your own journey around a knitting festival is so...therapeutic! Well at least for me. I cannot wait to go. Definitely taking hand wipes!
Liz! Loved this episode and I’m not even going to Rhinebeck! You are a real breath of fresh air. So delightful. I wish I was going just to sit with you and knit. Loved the story of finding Mary Jo, or rather her children finding you. Have the best time with her. I’m looking forward to hearing all about it. Love from Canada ❤
What an excellent video. I am going to Rhinebeck and Wool and Folk for the first time this year. You gave me a lot to think about. Lots of great advice and common sense information. I hope I run into when I am there. I will be happy to come sit and knit for a little bit. I love meeting new knitters.
That is so very exciting !!! I wish I could go, but I’m so excited for you and I hope you can meet Mary Jo in person and maybe some day we will meet also. I also have a small TH-cam channel and Instagram and have met so many wonderful people and made great friends. Thank you for all the great travel and planning information. Love the episode 💖🧶
I wish I could go, I hope you have a fabulous time and I can't wait to hear all about your experience! thank you so much for sharing Liz! I really do appreciate your videos, you inspire me!
Are you going to do a video of when you were at the festival? Love to see everything since I’m not able to attend either one this year …maybe next year!
I forgot to add if you plan on dining in rhinebeck you need a reservation to most of the restaurants. If you don't I'd suggest still walking around. It's a beautiful town and has a great independent bookstore and a candy shop own by the actor Paul Rudd. Not sure you'll see him but he does live in rhinebeck
I love to Fed-Ex my purchases back home. I get anxiety knowing that my checked bag is going to be overweight! It really just frees me up and the package usually arrives a day or two after I get back. Don't pack too much. I agree. I always bring too many knitted garments thinking I am going to wear them all and I don't. Pack light. Shawls and accessories are your friend.
I've gone 2yrs now and I would say if you're going book your hotel in advance. Like February or March so you can get the closest one. Even the ones an hour or so out get booked up come September. Sunday is less crowded. The bathroom at rhinebeck are clean. They have people constantly cleaning them all day. I would say if you're paying with a card let it be a debit card. I say this because vendors do take cards but the internet connection on the fairgrounds is terrible and my first year it went down completely for some vendors. They could only take cash until it came back up. There are ATMs. I go by myself. I have a good time because it's nice to see all the sweaters and my favorite Podcasters and the animals

In my family I am known as the JUST IN CASE PERSON!!! I overthink, over pack, trying to be prepared for everything. This was a great video.
Haha the overpacking is so hard for me to control. I'm already thinking of what I should bring...watch me bring it anyway just in case haha

Are you going to do a video of when you were at the festival? Love to see everything since I’m not able to attend either one this year …maybe next year!
I might be able to! I will definitely do a recap for sure!

At this point, based on what I want to purchase, I may fed ex it home too this year. This makes me want to knit a shawl!

I’d love to find out if there are any vendors selling Portuguese knitting pins!
I'll let you know!
