It's almost as if Eric Persing and Peter Maunu unconciously read Akira Yamaoka's pleas for an ethreal, rich and psychologically psychedelic sonic atmosphere. Truly amazing.
i've never created music in my life but i feel like i need this deeply. SH soundtrack is my favorite thing ever and i feel like just placing one of those samples playing forever to see what i get.
Yeah, I was initially hesitant to buy Omnisphere, but when I found samples in there that have been used on literally more than half of my all time favourite soundtracks, I was stoked. Sometimes I'd just sit there, holding the key down listening to nostalgic sounds.
Cory Pelizzari for shure. Hi, I recently purchased omnisphere and I was very interested in what you did to give such a soft and echoed sound to the bells/keyboard from "Warmup The Old School Rhodes" on your demo, I find that mine end up coming out quite harsh, even when playing with reverbs etc.
Go into the Osc settings (A/B/C Tabs) and adjust the ADSR settings on the bottom right... The A (which stands for attack) will give you control of how hard the initial attack of the key hits.
Omnisphere seems amazing in every way. I would like to ask if somebody how Yamaoka got the piano tune in some of his tracks like Laura Plays the Piano, True and Promise. I've tried a few romplers but not close enough. I tried adding some effects and it helped not quite there yet. Does Omnisphere has anything similar to that piano tone? Any suggestion would be appreciated
Watching this has inspired me to try making music like this, but I have no experience at all. Will buying these sample packs come with recording software? If not what programs do you recommend? Also would I need an expensive keyboard or could I get away with one that's cheap but responsive?
This is amazing! Great video, very cool. I only got into Silent Hill recently and played Silent Hill 2 and love it. The atmosphere of these old games is unmatched. I have a question, would you say Omnisphere is still worth it in 2024? I've been wanting to get it for the longest time but the price puts me off lol.
Thank you - do you have any idea what the the source sample in the white claudia and ice song. There is a chant / singing piece in both. I'm trying to determine the sample origin. Thank you
There's not a lot in the way of comprehensive ambient packages, but some I've found to be worth a buy are libraries like Wraith, Slow and Colourform from Frozenplain. One of my favourites for tonal ambience is The Blue Zone from Hideaway Studios, then for more abstract stuff there's Haunted Spaces from Soniccouture (but it eats CPU).
hi cory, thanks so much for unearthing this! Was just wondering if you knew a bit more about Persing and Maunu's involvement in the SH games. I'm looking at the game's credits and neither of their names show up....and also just realized the original Omnisphere was released 5 + years after the first 3 silent hill games....just a bit curious as to how you think Akira Yamaoka used the samples is all!
Eric and Peter made those sounds long before the Silent Hill games came out. Back in the nineties the sounds were released on discs as single packages named Bizarre Guitar, Distorted Reality and many others that were used in films and games countless times. Alongside East/West they were among the first ever sample library publishers that paved the way for all the companies and devs you see today.
@@CoryPelizzari thank you for clearing this up! I used to have a few folders that contained 90's samples from CD's back then containing breakbeats and other things. Doesn't take away from Akira at all but it's good to highlight the pioneers!
Hi, thanks for the video. Please tell me, maybe I'm doing something wrong ... The Spectrasonics website does not have this library in the Omnisphere 2 patch list. It is available in LEGACY LIBRARIES in Akai / Emu, Roland, and audio formats. Is it possible to get the library now?
All of the original sounds and libraries are hidden in the core sounds folder, which you can get to if you make a new blank patch and click on sound "a" in the GUI, then click on the little box in the middle of that GUI. It'll take you to the core sounds folder, which contains all the original libraries. It's a bit convoluted to say the least.
I'm looking to try out making some SH-esque music myself using this, but the $500 price tag for Omnisphere seems a BIT steep for someone who doesn't even plan on making money from this sort of thing. I just want to see if I can even do it. Is there not an alternative for none-profit usage?
It's hard to find a collection of sounds in one library that really gives the Silent Hill vibe. Usually you have to go digging into multiple libraries for ambient content and nods to Akira's work. I'd say go to Loot Audio and look up ambient libraries for Kontakt - but you'll likely need the full version of Kontakt 6 for a lot of these libraries. If you do happen to have the full version of Kontakt 6 you can download the library I made for getting a Silent Hill sound at my video "Getting a Silent Hill Sound With My Voice".

Akira's version is EQ'd and compressed, but he also likely threw in a low pad from the Atmosphere selection for bass because the original sample doesn't have a bass tone. Just try out different low pad sounds in the Atmosphere section.

But omnisphere has sooo much/ soo many sounds, etc i think it is worth it, my only thing is like i said it runs a little slow for me, so its hard for me to actually scroll through and listen to all the "sounds" i have access too.
