    This kind of lessons about little but substantial details is just what everybody missed when they begun to play, and was discovering them slowly, giving attention when listening to music as they progress with instrument, watching videos, attending friends... 🙂👍

    This is a great video... I got my gallop picking down in my early years of playing guitar... My buddies would ask me where I was learning how to play all these cool songs... I would tell them that my teachers are M & M - Maiden & Metallica... "Up the Irons"

    Man, Id like you to know that Ive been listening to Maiden since I was 5 (Im 25 now), and this 2022 tour made me come back to Maiden. Sorry it took me so long to respond, I somehow missed your comment but I hope you've picked up that electric guitar again and if you haven't, don't keep putting it off! Playing music in any capacity is one of the best things for the soul... But electric guitar has that little something extra 😃🤘

    • @LicksOfTheBeast
      @LicksOfTheBeast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's tricky because it varies so much from person to person. Things like grip, angle etc... I mean for sure there are some people who might have found something more ideal from a biomechanical standpoint but usually I find it's a question of what works best for you.

    I'm learning the trooper and when the tempo gets up to a certain point on the gallop portions my pick is sliding out of my hand and I can't figure out why. Any tips? I've tried using a myriad of picks and I haven't found anything that works perfect. Thanks for the vid btw!

    • @LicksOfTheBeast
      @LicksOfTheBeast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One common reason is holding the pick too tight and tensing up too much. Trying to keep your picking hand a bit more loose and relaxed should make a big difference. With practice you'll be able to play even fast and tight rhythms with any pick without it sliding out of your hand. Cheers 🤜🤛

    • @LicksOfTheBeast

      💯💯 It'll sound like Maiden if you play it like Maiden. How you play is much more important than what you play through. I sometimes plug straight in to my little old Line 6 Spider iv 15 and it sounds just fine!
      Add a Tube Screamer (or the Donner/Joyce/Senheiser equivalent) and an EQ pedal and you've got a killer setup 🤘

    Hello Fellow Maiden fan. Is it possible to bring out a video on how to properly practice galloping? I seem to do something wrong. As they say, the devil is in the details... \m/

    • @LicksOfTheBeast
      @LicksOfTheBeast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What worked for me is to pay very close attention to the picking motion, slow it down as much as you can without altering the way you are picking. That way you can see if you are dragging at any point (that used to me my problem at first) or where it isn't completely smooth. That will help you course correct. Really slowing down is like a big zoom on your playing so that any little imperfections get magnified.

    • @LicksOfTheBeast
      @LicksOfTheBeast  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know who did it first as a rock thing but there are some early versions of that picking pattern in various 70s hard rock and metal songs. Judas Priest's cover of Diamonds and Rust for example, although I think Zeppelin did it first with Achilles and somewhat similarly with Immigrant song. Heart's Barracuda has a pretty heavy gallop and that was released in '77.
      Maiden definitely put their own signature on it (heavier, a bit tighter more biting), starting with Killers and then Run to the hills, hallowed be thy name etc.
