Direct sensing approaches are being increasingly adopted worldwide. In particular, Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) tools are becoming the standard to delineate NAPL source zones thanks to their high resolution and real-time visualisation capabilities. More specifically, the Ultra-Violet Optical Screening Tool (UVOST) is designed for the investigation of petroleum LNAPLs such as petrol, diesel and crude oil in unconsolidated aquifers.
This technical session was presented by Randy St. Germain (President at Dakota Technologies), who has led the development of LIF logging tools in the last three decades.
