    Hey Meital! I’m not the best dancer and I wanted to know how important being a flexible dancer is in terms of the routine (like would we have to do high kicks, pirouettes, rolls etc). I’m super nervous about this part of the auditions especially for schools like UMich where they’re known for being a dance intensive school.

      Hi, Christina! Most dance calls have variations for each dancer to do, and dance calls only exist to know what level you are at within your dance training! It doesn't matter if you do not dance, because you will end up at the right school for you. I know so many people who are not dancers at all who got into their top programs and that is because they show potential and an eager energy to learn! Do your best with what is given and show it all in your face, just have a good time :) hope this helped!

    Hi Meital! Thank you for such an informative video it really helped a lot, as I am currently a Junior and looking at what colleges I want to apply to for MT and really the whole process. I had just a few questions that I was wondering about if you would be so kind as to answer them :)
    1) What do you think the main difference is between Tisch and Steinhardt at NYU?
    2) How many schools did you get into of the ones you applied for?
    3) How much do you think SAT scores and academic performance affect you getting into a school?
    Thank you!

      Sarah Reich Hi! Thank you so much for the support, I'm so glad I could help!
      1) So Tisch is the main arts school at NYU, and The New Studio on Broadway is the musical theatre studio at Tisch Drama, in which we receive a BFA in Musical Theatre. Tisch believes that acting is the foundation for everything although we immerse ourselves evenly between singing, dancing, and acting; the basis of all of it is simply storytelling, which I think is especially important!
      NYU Steinhardt is a completely different degree, it is a BM in Vocal Performance with a concentration in musical theatre, therefore the program is very heavily voice and music based, with much less dancing, but I cannot speak too much since I only know a few people doing VP at Steinhardt. Hope this helps! And you can check online for a breakdown of classes both offer!
      2) I don't remember, but I would say around 15 maybe?
      3) Here at NYU, they evaluate us based on academics as an additional factor unlike other schools that accept solely based on the audition, which I find especially important and I am in love with the encouragement we have here to pursue academics as well, being a conservatory style program within a major research university. In regards to SAT, I submitted my scores! I have no clue how heavy they weight them in the application process!
      Hope this helped, let me know if you have any more questions at all! So happy you're getting prepared now, wishing you all the best!

    hi I have a question on dance auditions especially for NYU. I’m an international student and I don’t have any ballet knowledge, but I know how to do hip hop and jazz funk styles. How should I prepare more for dance? How would they assess the dance?

    do you recommend unified if the schools your applying to are close to home?

    • @meitalz8030
      @meitalz8030  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is honestly your choice! It was helpful for me because many schools that I was applying to were not close, however, you can still attend if you want to knock out more auditions, as many schools will be there. Break legs!

    Hi~ I actually have a question!!!! I was a psychology major at Duquesne University and I am about to internally transfer to theatre major. I was heavily involved in musical theatre when I was in high school. After I went to college, I find out that my biggest passion is still about theatre. However, I have not had any coaches. I really want to go to UCLA. Besides the general requirement stuff, is there any advice you can give me. Advice or support can be really helpful😍😍😍😍😍

    • @meitalz8030
      @meitalz8030  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! That's incredible you are reaching for your dreams! Congrats! First thing, you do not have to have any coaches at all! It is all so do-able on your own, you just have to make a lot of time to practice! My advice would be to just show them why you love it and have so much fun with it! Invest in pieces (songs and monologues) that you love and simply do what you love. Everything happens for a reason and you will end up exactly where you are supposed to be. Break legs! Let me know if you have any more questions!! :)

    I don’t know if you are gonna see this. But do the dance calls come before or after the singing/acting portion of the audition?

    • @maleyahnowell9111
      @maleyahnowell9111 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it 100% depends on the school. some schools have dance calls before the singing and acting portion and some schools have it after. in most cases, the dance call will be after though so research if you can. hope this helped :)

    thank you so much this was so helpful ! but i just want to ask how much experience did you have in MT before auditioning? im a sophomore and i know that its what i wanna to do but im scared that i dont have enough experience in things such as being in musicals and plays😓

    • @meitalz8030
      @meitalz8030  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi! I would say it's never too late to get involved in productions! If you are absolutely sure you want to pursue musical theatre, then I'd say lack of experience should never stop you! Plus you're only a sophomore! Get involved in whatever you can and want to :) you'll do great! So happy I could help!

    Do schools at Unifieds in LA have schools from New York and Chicago too?

    • @meitalz8030
      @meitalz8030  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they do! Schools from all over attend Unifieds and most schools do all three conventions as well! (Also know that the schools listed on the Unifieds website are not the only ones that attend by any means!) I also would recommend doing as many walk-in auditions as you'd like, they are great practice and a great introduction to new schools. Break legs!
