Messi and Ronaldo are among the best footballers of all time who won multiple Ballon D'ors, Champions League titles, the copa america, euro and world cup. For most people Lionel Messi is the greatest player ever but Cristiano Ronaldo's career proved hat he belongs in die Goat-debate. Messi had carried his Argentina team to so many international finals and still had won quite a few domestic titles with Barca even when Ronaldo had his high up until 2018. The only thing Ronaldo has ever had kept him in rivalry was his adaptability.

Just for little context, if football had been viewed that way all along, Maradona, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Best, R9 and Zizou would have absolutely no business being great players. Cr7 was ahead of Messi before 2009. But since then, although he came closer to Messi at times, there was never really any question about who was the greatest to any honest football watcher.
