What a fantastic way to make opera accessible and get people involved and interested. How could this not inspire someone who has never seen an opera to take the plunge? Bravo a tutti!!!
I watched this when it came out in 2010 and many times thereafter. Watched again today after a long time and it still made me happy! Wonderful flash mob! Delightful "Brindisi," my favorite opera chorus!
Yes, I do too. My eyes well up each time as I remember my mom the opera buff who grew up listening to it. I love it too because she played her opera records and filled my heart with music.
What a FABULOUS and marvelous way to be exposed to Opera!! how lucky for those 'caught' in the act there amidst all those marvelous voices ....I really had tears in my eyes hearing the music and watching all those folks get turned onto the chorus...!!Thanks Phil Opera company~
My friend and neighbor, Vivian Fonseca, sent this to me three days before she died and I just listened to it tonight...feelings are best expressed through ART!
I cannot believe that there are actually 9 thumbs down for this performance. Nine subhuman trolls out of more than a million viewers. It's great to note that most people, even those not accustomed to opera, burst into applause at the end of the performance. This literally brought tears to my eyes. I wish I had been there. The Opera Company of Philadelphia has some really fine voices. Bravo to all!
I wish I get caught in one of this someday. This is fantastic. I live in Glendale California and the only flash mob we had a few weeks ago at Amaricana was some fools breaking stuff and stealing…it sucks!
This isn't the first time this has been done... I seem to remember seeing a similar video done in a market in Spain. Still, that doesn't detract from the wonderful job they did here, and the amazing lift it must have given the shoppers there that day. They also made it look and sound very easy, and in fact it required very careful planning, and of course each vocalist had to be individually "miked." I'm not a great opera fan, but I say "BRAVO" to a performance like this!
Bravo! Art comes to the people. 200 years ago this might have happened in the public square. Very nicely done Opera Company of Philadelphia. Thank you Reading Terminal Market for being part of this. What an upbeat and joyful moment you all helped create! Oh to have been there. Loved the looks of confusion, joy, anxiety and almost rapture on the faces of the public. Well... I'm now a fan!
@@Grisbi6 The Reading Terminal Market is really big, and a very popular stop with tourists (and locals), and this was an Italian Festival weekend at the Market. That probably explains it (but there are always people snapping photos in there).
These brave artists are the bridge between our greatest hopes and our ability to walk the talk in our most mundane moments, there is God in the goodness of these bold beauties! Oh so wonderful!
How I wish I could've been there! What a joyful video, indeed. It gives me hope for humanity when I see talents shared such as these. Thanks a million!
We Americans are a great people. To have these young talented people do this at this italian festival just shows how connected we are with the love of music and living in a country that gives us liberty. We will never see this in the news where the media wants us at each other's throats. BRAVO to all the members of the Philly Opera Company, this was inspiring!
I agree with you natalie...I saw this vid over a year ago...I still watch it at least a few times a month...This country needs more entertainment like this... I have always been a big fan of opera.
This may be the 4 or 5th time watching this. The first time I watched this was maybe 9 years ago and I remember how touched I was. I shared it with my professor who was so sick at the time. He happened to be my neighbor and was the kindest person I knew. He was so moved by this and thanked me for sharing it with him. Watching this makes me miss him...He passed shortly after I shared this with him...
I just saw this again and was reminded of how many smiles you put on the faces in the crowd. With everything going on in the world, this would be a great "do over"as people could use this right now.
I have played this four times and it puts tears in my eyes... what an incredible idea.... what an experience. WOW! Thank you to those who participated.
This is my favorite flash mob video! The singing is great, and it's fun to watch the faces of the people who are caught up in it----I can tell by looking at their reactions, whether they would be fun people to know or grumps who are annoyed by anything out of their comfort zone.
nothing like a little culture to set everybody straight-it brings absolute joy to your soul and comfort to your heart.. A positive expereience for all to share - a huge thankyou to the real genius who thought to present this magnificent piece.
What a delightful surprise for the people at this Italian Market. As for me, I loved it and from the response, so did the unsuspecting audience. Bravo!!!
One of the best 'flashes' ever ! Such natural and charming interaction with the Public who seemed to enjoy it a lot. Lots of smiles which is just want we want nowadays ! And a minimum of mobile 'phones filming for once. A totally entertaining and heart-warming show. Thanks to the good folk of the Philadelphia Opera.....
For some reason, seeing this gives me hope for humanity. No matter what evil is happening at any given time in the world, everything is still going to be ok because of the beauty that comes from the music of the human soul and humans ability to appreciate one of the few things that humans create that is actually wonderful. Thank you for this video!
a friend of mine sent me the link to this video and both times i've watched it i was moved to tears and laughter for sheer awesomeness of what they did!!! Outstanding!!!!
How wonderful - I would love to be surprised by something like this whilst out and about - the joy that it brings to everybody is so apparent - FANTASTIC - BRAVO
I could watch this all day. This is my third time today. It is uplifting. It makes me feel alive. Thank you Opera Company of Philadelphia. I bet you didn't know you were ministers
I cannot say how excited I am that this happened in Philadelphia - at th Reading Terminal Market, with a great local company and has been viewed nearly 3mm times. bravo indeed.
Bravo! I am not even an Opera fan and I was captivated by this! Wow! Like many others have said, Bravo to the performers for stepping out of their comfort zone in such an audacious fashion!
Fabulous, simply fabulous. Like most other people who have written comments, I wish I had been there! What a wonderful experience, a real tear jerker, too! Many thanks for this video. it is in my favourites, and already played several times over as many days. Phil.
What a brilliant idea! All opera companies should do it. People today don't know how beautiful opera can be, there is no opera on tv or radio. This can get more people to appreciate opera, to understand how much talent there is in opera, and ultimately will bring more people to opera houses. Love it!
We spent our first vacation in over 30 years in Philly. I cannot remember when I more throughly enjoyed myself than in the Terminal Market! The sights, the sounds, the music, the food, but I wish I could have seen this!
Huge BRAVO! Fun watching some walking by doing their best to ignore. You can't ignore this and you shouldn't. It was beautiful. I'd have paid to have been there. I hope other companies consider the huge impact. Experience opera. Love opera.
Wonderful! This had given me energy and made my evening. I love seeing the reactions of the public, close up to the singers. I well remember Welsh National Opera coming to a community college near me when I was 16/17 years old and singing excerpts from LA BOHEME and THE FLYING DUTCHMAN, which they were on tour with. It was incredibly exciting! And that excitement has stayed with me ever since! LONG LIVE OPERA!!!!!!
I love this so much--the stunning fact of this beauty in the midst of everyday--bravo to the singers. It's so funny to watch the crowd: some are curious, delighted, others are embarrassed, go their way. i wonder what their thinking--we are not used to finding this spontaneous joy as we do our day.
Fabuloso! What a treat for those who happened to be in the market that day! Just wonderful how music bonds us together and makes people smile! And what a great way to promote opera to many who might otherwise have thought they didn't like it! BRAVO!!!
What a fantastic way to make opera accessible and get people involved and interested. How could this not inspire someone who has never seen an opera to take the plunge? Bravo a tutti!!!
My mother sent this to me ten years ago because she saw it and liked it. I miss her.
I've seen several flash mobs here on youtube and I think the classical ones are by far the best.

Amo de Paixão!
Especially the opera ones.
I love it that people enjoy these flash concerts! They are a flash of sunshine in an ordinary day.
I watched this when it came out in 2010 and many times thereafter. Watched again today after a long time and it still made me happy! Wonderful flash mob! Delightful "Brindisi," my favorite opera chorus!
I love this! Every now and then I come back and watch it and it fills me up every time.
Wonderful music and wonderful event!!! Thank you.
Melon Dash And so do I! I love this flash opera and I come back and watch it every month or so..,
Melon Dash i love so much Opera!
And now I want a glass of champagne!
Me too, my absolute favourite flash mob!
Yes, I do too. My eyes well up each time as I remember my mom the opera buff who grew up listening to it. I love it too because she played her opera records and filled my heart with music.
What a great performance. A great way of bringing opera to the general public.
What a FABULOUS and marvelous way to be exposed to Opera!! how lucky for those 'caught' in the act there amidst all those marvelous voices ....I really had tears in my eyes hearing the music and watching all those folks get turned onto the chorus...!!Thanks Phil Opera company~
This is my favorite one so far! Random Acts of Culture is such a brillant idea!
When I'm far from Italy, and I feel a little homesick, I use to listen to Verdi. In his music there is everything you need to know about italians
Whenever my days grow dark I come here and the sun shines brilliantly!
Bravo! From Italy, land of music and love. ;)
I love this and start my mornings everyday watching. It plasters a big smile on my face!
I still love this and watch it whenever I am feeling down or lonely.
SUPEEER !!! VERY, VERY, VERY INTERESTING !!! BRAVO ! THIS IS THE BEST ! THIS IS FANTASTIC !!! HEART GREETINGS FROM SOFIA - BULGARIA - EUROPE

How can something so magnificent have 88 thumbs down?
This is one of the best renditions I've had the pleasure to watch.
I wish I get caught in one of this someday. This is fantastic. I live in Glendale California and the only flash mob we had a few weeks ago at Amaricana was some fools breaking stuff and stealing…it sucks!

Well... I'm now a fan!
People put your @#$%ing phones down and enjoy the moments of your lives.
i was surprised to see how many people were carrying cameras (not phones) while out on a shopping trip
@@Grisbi6 The Reading Terminal Market is really big, and a very popular stop with tourists (and locals), and this was an Italian Festival weekend at the Market. That probably explains it (but there are always people snapping photos in there).
These days I am looking for any video in which the Traviata "Libiam ne 'lieti calici ..." by Giuseppe Verdi is sung; I just can not get enough.
I guess the 76 justin beiber fans dont understand what REAL music is
