I started playing magic during ice age and haven't played in about 9 years. Last tournament I was at was in 2015. I miss magic so much but at my age it's scary to try to make friends. I love your videos and vicariously enjoy it through here. Thank you from those of us with anxiety and disabilities who can't find real players to play and enjoy this game so many of us love, or want to love but can't for various reasons.
hey man, try it out at a local store. There are loads of different ages (atleast here in the netherlands). I've played against people who are both 13 years old and people who are like 60. Even though most magic players aren't the most social I have seen that most magic players are very welcoming and understanding. Of course there are always some rotten eggs but hey, thats with everything. Hope you can get back into the game!
I hear you. I stopped playing about 10 years ago during Kamigawa. Went to my first prerelease in a decade when Bloomburrow came out. I was so nervous at the shop, and kept apologizing to my opponents for being a little slow. Everyone was so kind and patient and even though I was anxious at first it turned out to be a wonderful experience. Give it a shot if you feel up to it
I feel like Ghost Vacuum is a good sideboard card for anti-delirium decks. If someone is trying to go hard on delirium, you can help keep them from that with the vacuum.
They also confirmed killer clowns, 1970's televisions, highschool cheerleaders, and guns, so baseball is *hardly* the most surprising thing to happen. (Sorry if this sounds rude, this set just makes me grumpy)
To iterate a bit on Undead Sprinter, if you cast it in your first main phase, it's a 3/3 Trample Haste. Your opponent is disincentivized from blocking it, as you can get it back even if no other creatures die, because you already got it back once. Seems pretty good. Also note that it doesn't have to be your creature that dies. You could Shock something in your first main phase, then play this as a 3/3, then attack with it.
You can sacrifice it himself and another thing with the signpost uncommon and ping everything for 2 each turn, or even more if you have more mana because the recursion. It's a good creature in his colors because of the sacrifice mechanic.
Least important reason I hate a card: 8:25 Drag to the Roots's flavour text says "let our blood be their mulch, our flesh their soil" which shows zero understanding of what mulch is. Mulch is a barrier to prevent water evaporating, not a liquid you put on your plants. "Let our blood water their roots in the soil of our flesh" would have been more appropriate.
Marina can lock doors as well. So every turn if you have a room that does damage when unlocked you can just do that once per turn. Still not saying she's amazing due to her cost but if you are able to build for her I can for sure see her popping off.
I'm not sure where, but I've heard the "under 13" lands called Shadowlands, after Death's Shadow. I think that's a pretty good summary of what they're about.
At our PreRelease going into the final round 3 out of 5 unbeaten decks were Boros and 2 of them went unbeaten when it was all said and done (Including Mine 😁). If you haven't played with Arabella yet just know that she is insane.. I'll be building a commander deck around her.
Finally a set of MTG that I may actually play in limited. This set actually FEELS like magic again. The mechanics not quite so much but the art and the theme is so creepy it's actually quite good.
3/2 flying lifelink is a bit powerful... if anything they should have just made the spider a 2/2, it is good enough with its late game ability, or a 3/2
You can't respond to a player opening a room at sorcery speed in their turns. Have that in mind. Is like turning something face up. If there is a trigger, you respond when that triggers goes on the stack, but not when someone unlocks the door and get a passive effect or a battle trigger. Also I feel Simic is going to be busted, at least in board state. It's two signpost uncommon are GREAT compare to most colors, and a lot of uncommon and common manifest dread cards are great on it's own.
Nizzahon doesn't give build around grades anymore. There are a lot of multicolored cards in this set that warrant a build around grade. Even in signposts, some of them need more drafting attention to make work than normal. Marina Vendrell for example is the definition of a build around. It is just an F in a non-rooms deck while she could have bomb level power if you can get some of the more powerful rooms. I would say it is an F/B+ but it is likely more for constructed.
There are a few cards in this video I gave build around grades too. Generally, when I don't give them, it means that I think achieving the thing that card needs is going to be the case in virtually any deck in those colors.
This set will be crazy drafting experience! I think this will easily be the set with most crazy decks with all the mechanics, all the fixing and heavy bomb centric. Might be a fun 3 months at FNMs As per usual big up for all the content. Favorite videos to watch before prereleases.
Fear of Infinity seems pretty good to me. Flying and lifelink on a 2/2 body at 3 mana is above the norm, and those keywords can take over a game very quickly. I'm not really interested in trading my 2/2 flier with a grizzlybear anyways so the unblockability is less relevant. Earie is just bonus after that.
not very good against the opposing uncommon 2/3 reach green gets, but there is no real GREAT reach cards besides that spider. Otherwise there is flyers and sure quite a few are higher toughness so the 2/2 becomes pretty bad at that point. So yeah seems alright to me
Marvin sounds insane in so many brawl decks. Auto include in a similar fashion to that 4c artifact creature where you name a creature type and those creatures get their triggered abilities an additional time.
I’m very curious to see how Fear of Infinity ultimately plays out in this format. While its downsides of needing to be recast and being unable to block are significant, especially if the format is aggressive, I cannot help but consider if the card could be utilized as an engine piece with Defiled Crypt. The first time you recur Fear of Infinity each turn, you would also get an enchantment creature off the Crypt. With an initial enchantment and later casting the Fear, you could get three Eerie triggers in one turn. It’s a card that can fairly easily leave your graveyard incidentally and get you value, though the Crypt is the only card in the set that really cares about that. Probably still a magical Christmas Land scenario, but I‘ll remain cautiously curious.
I hope I get a chance to play with jolly balloon man, looks like it's good/fun but that's also the most awesome artwork I've seen on a card in a minute
I love the design on Zimone. Sure, it's a bit complicated but it really conveys the idea that she's a mathematician and her magic revolves around numbers.
Restricted Office looks really good in R/W decks with its theme of creatures with power 2 or less. A guaranteed one-sided wrath for 4 mana is definitely not a F/D.
Zimone is one of the weirdest cards I've ever seen printed in a main set! Turn 3 1/1 that creates a 3/3 at the end step is pretty nice, but that pressure of knowing Zimone has to go or Primo will become a 5/5 and then eventually a 7/7 (11/11 is unlikely) is pretty potent. Very curious how she will play out, especially with Terramorphic Expanse in the set.
Baseball Bat feels really bad to me. If you're behind it seems like it it'll be almost useless cause you usually don't want to attack in that situation
Rules question about activated abilities in regards to the TV: It has a mana ability (e.g. "tap to add white") and another ability (transform for 7 mana) with no apparent timing limitation that I can identify. Does that mean the tranformation is 7 mana if the TV is already tapped, and otherwise virtually only 6 since the TV can pay for the last mana itself? Or is this sort-of-simultaneous double-activation not allowed somehow?
You can absolutely use the tv’s mana on its animation. Unless there are overlapping costs (ex. Both require the card to tap), you can use as many abilities of a card as you can afford. They are technically separate activations, but mana abilities can’t be responded to and you could hold priority anyway.
I don't understand why you rated Smoky Lounge/Misty Salon so highly as a build-around. It's extremely slow to get you anything better than single a 2/2 flyer for effectively 5 mana over two turns. The only way it could possibly be good is if you are not only heavily into Rooms, you also have a ton of ways to repeatedly lock Misty Salon to then unlock it again and generate more flying tokens. Even if you've got all that support in your deck, it seems super slow to get going.
would marina vendrells effect let you regain a rooms unlock effect if you say used her to lock, then repayed the unlock effect? depends on the rooms, but that could be really powerfull.
Yep, she can do that. I mentioned that locking your own rooms could be good later in the video on another card that does that, but forgot to do it with her.
As I mentioned, it can definitely snowball like that. But it's not like it just gets a counter every turn, I think it takes enough work that it isn't above a B-. Now, if it turns out Survival is easier than I'm expecting, I could see it being better.
I think you're underselling Marina Vendrell's ability. Unlocking a door for free every turn is huge value when you consider there are a lot of 6,7 mana cost doors, and some of those even have a 1-3 mana side, and if you're playing Marina you probably have a decent number of doors that you could draw on ETB. Yeah, she's hard to cast and sucks if instantly killed but it feels like it's the kind of card that wins the game if you untap.
@@NizzahonMagic In a deck I'd run Marina, yeah, I do believe either I'm gonna have rooms on the battlefield or draw one on ETB since it looks at 7 cards. When it's untapped something has to have gone really wrong in deckbuilding for you to play with Marina and not do the thing. Like, I don't disagree at all with your final score for the average deck, but I think it could have a separate build around score because the effect is really strong if you can make use of it.

this game is literally evolving into heartstone lmfao. if you think kaito its a 4/5(actually if you untap with kaito +1 again with +2 emblem is a 5/6 hexproof attacker) with 3 mana that 1st attack 3 damage is unblocked when played you gain 5 hp(armor???? loyality) even with notable making token on a +1 is still kinda insane. (just think he is is like more of aggro top end instead of midrange or control)
Ghost Vacuum feels like the anti-delirium card. 4 types in your graveya...wait, never mind, you need 5 types in...sorry, 6 types to have delirium until next turn.
