      Digital can Ether or Be Conventional, Single Site Trunking or Multi-Site Trunking , operating in Analog/Digital Mixed Mode. new Digital Radios can even Communicate over IP, that means using A Building wifi System to Communicate.

    Hi mate. Thanks for the valuable information.
    I want to start radio scanning as a hobby, and I m specially interested in police and fire radio scanning. I m based in New Delhi, India and have no idea what frequencies do emergency services use here, and whether or not the transmission is encrypted.
    I m on a budget and will like to go for the cheapest options. A SDR or any other cheap alternative. Can you please guide me what should I buy? and where can I get more information.

      webcyonix Doing the research and answering your own question would be easy with the Web at your disposal, but I found out quite interestingly that all this stuff is illegal in India. No wonder you can't find that out for yourself. Don't get caught with this stuff my friend, or you might be scanning your own arrest !! I take so much of this for granted sometimes !

    Thank You for this video. My question, should I purchase a new Uniden Bearcat analogue scanner or invest further into a "trunking" unit. Or maybe a digital unit. I am confused by it all. I really only want to hear, police, fire and ambulance. (Saint John,NB Canada location).

      Hilda - all services including JOB radios and also the Police are going Digital. some smaller Towns might STILL use Analog but they need to Communicate with Bigger Towns or City's. Invest in a Digital Scanner. best of all there is Minimal Programing as you can Download Frequency for the Entire USA and Canada.

    • @hdofu
      @hdofu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you haven't invested yet, a digital trunking scanner is definetly the way to go as almost everywhere is going that way now.

    I picked up 2 scanner just a few weeks ago. One is a handheld 200 channel Bearcat and the other is a base station scanner, also a Bearcat.
    Neither picks up much of anything in Colorado. I think I heard some air traffic once for about 2 scrambled seconds.
    Do they actually pick up anything anymore??!!

      Police scanner on the phone is extremely limited, you only hear what is pre programmed and 80 % of where people live are not in there, Scanner radios make you listen to thousands of signals from not only police but many more other types of communications that the apps dont do at all

      Those scanner apps for phones are really limited. For example, I live in an area covered by L.A. County Sheriffs - East L.A. Division and none of those scanner apps cover that frequency. That is just secondary to why I got my scanner, which was to listen to NASCAR and Indy drivers communicate with their pit crews when I went to the races.

      Here it is Jan 2020 and I'm researching for a new handheld. My Pro43 still functions but the Scan/Man buttons and a couple other commonly used channel banks no longer work even after tearing it down in Hope's of cleaning the contacts. I have had this Pro43 since 1990! That's longevity! Now I don't know what to buy?!

    • @OhMySack
      @OhMySack 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update: I bought a Uniden BC125AT to fill in. In the meantime, I discovered a product called "Key Fix" that is a carbon-based goopy glue that allows you to treat the rubberized push-button to make them conductive. My Pro43 is like new again! I must admit, it's not as sensitive as the newer Uniden I bought. I suspect 49 y/o tech may be a bit out of date!

I just raised a new Diamond discone base antenna on my roof about 35' agl so I'm catching good reception of P&F plus good aviation band as well. Studying for the Technician's license so I can legitimately run my 2 meter and 70 meter Ham handhelds through the same antenna.

      @@vincenzom1954 I'm lagging on the newer DMR tech so I can't offer any worthy advice. I'm still uncertain about the encryption aspects and what you can actually hear when it comes to agencies using DMR. Have you checked into RadioReference.com? Not only for frequency references but in the header on the home page, there's a forum and I have found it to be very active with people that live and breathe this stuff. More so than I honestly think I ever will! 😆
