You know, it goes to show how much we accept the usual tropes of what 3d space combat with a given story line will be like, with all the situations we expect. When I played StarFox on the SNES, it didn't occur to me even once that it took extreme cues from this game - which it clearly did.
The final show down is very nice. When the music start to play after it mute for so long, you just know it isn't like another fight you have been encounter in the game.
This is team leader this is team leader, attack the port Geosword, I'll attack the starboard... over. This game was amazing back when I first played it circa 1991. A few years before games like Starfox on the SNES.
Trans Canada Phil Early 80s Atari arcades like I,Robot and their Star Wars arcade were the pioneers. Then in the late 80s, the Starglider and Star Cruiser games followed on home computers while even the original Star Wars arcade was remade on Sharp X68000 and NEC PC-98. Shortly before even X (or Ekkusu) for Game Boy, Argonaut Software developed some Days of Thunder video games, Arsys Software supported Namco with the Ace Combat/Air Combat arcade, while Namco alone did Starblade.
that's a stereotype i'm going to have to call you out on. COD began on PC's, is still fun (zombies, multiplayer) and some of the people i play with are in their 40's. so grow up
An ending I never saw in the arcade because I never had more than a few dollars. What a wonderful game at the time. As a kid I was totally able to immerse myself in the experience.
Never saw this 1 in the arcades I used to haunt. I wonder if this was made by the same guys who did StarFox aka StarWing for the SNES? because it looks very similar.
NAMCO has highest 3D technology in 1991,smoother and higher resolution than ATARI, but 3D game originated by ATARI's I,ROBOT(1983) , I thought so cool both manufacturer
The intro disclaimer saying that the selling exporting, use or operation of this game is illegal outside of japan is really funny when nowadays not only would exports and overseas use of it be legal the actual company itself even would be openly endorsing it
It was a really big arcade cabinet. Only big arcades had this cool game and it was a lot of fun to play it. But 3 german coins was a lot of money for a arcade game. And the most player had not the skills for the first 3 minutes. Sorry for my english :-)
What kind of hardware were you running mame on? I have an arcade starblade with bad 3d. I am wondering about just swapping it out with a mame board to resurrect.
it's such a different experience with the speakers in the cockpit and the warped screen

tekken 5 made me love star blade, I beat it once before even playing a single match
used to love this game. It still looks fun even today.

The only people who would dislike this have got to be kids who have been bought up on Call of Duty's and don't know their games to be honest.
Today, kids like to dislike things.... maybe for then it is kind of... cool.
p cha everyone have their own taste

Finally found it, played this in the arcade, rememeber the ending music, it had big screens and was enclosed, looked amazing back then.
Those are pretty decent visuals for 1991.
kek mcpepe Well Namco had some pretty hefty hardware on them ;D

Shinji Hosoe one of my favourite VG music composers.
12:40 That sound used to scare me
Oh the quarters I spent back in the day playing this.

It's made by different companies. Argonaut and Namco
I dump a fortune into this machine back in the day. finished it eventually...

I've used mame v0.14x I can't remember. There is no version without lag.
Wow! What the super rapid fire.
The intro disclaimer saying that the selling exporting, use or operation of this game is illegal outside of japan is really funny when nowadays not only would exports and overseas use of it be legal the actual company itself even would be openly endorsing it
How did you get it to run so fast? It's so laggy no matter what version of mame I have.
never saw this game in arcades, looks pretty good

best graphics EVER
Not that I'm aware of.
just a tip to people who want to play this game at perfect arcade quality and smoothness, use the mjolnir emulator and NOT mame.
Just the tip?
Where do you set the continuous fire mode in this game? dip switches or .ini file?
Turbo joystick.
Some of Those enemy designs look a lot lime enemies from Star Fox. What Pc specs does this require?
The best spec you can get, the better. This game is not fully emulated yet and still lag a lot.
I remember having tekken 5 and this game was playing when you load it up i was so confused lol
Is it just me or does this game look like Star Fox? Still it was a cool looking game.
wheres the rom?
What is the best analog configuration of this game?
How do you adjust controls?
Still better than alpha :D

It was an AMD64 or something like that. The game was recorded in slow motion at the time but the recording show the emulation at full speed.
have the bugs been fix in this game
Beg?
