The quality, the cinematic level, the content of each video, this channel is one of the best on youtube. Congratulations for this great work, Nadal will always be our hero. Very interesting this rafa origin 290g
Top quality video. Glad to see you making videos you want to make, you can really see the passion! Please think of some specific tennis merch would love to support you!
Love to see this level of effort and production in a tennis video! Definitely keen to see the customisations you made to this, that 290 static seems so low.
I feel this way about Edberg and my Wilson prostaff classics that I got in the early 90’s. At 45yo, I still play with these and have tried newer versions but just keep going back for the feel and nostalgia. I’ve recently bought my 11yo the aero Rafa, so may have to give it a crack!
Nice video! Nice too see you all having fun. Would love to see what customization you did in it. It is remarkable how horrendous the paint job in the new one is, especially considering the old one (although bold and flashy) was very very good.
This video is GOATED 🐐...Im obsessed with my under spec Rafa Origin, coming in at a swing weight of 342, and static weight of 226 strung 🤭...yea, way under spec. It has leveled up my game. Where are you at with your customized Rafa 290? Video please! 🙏
For me personally the origin is to heavy to hit with every day, but the string pattern is tighter than the 290, I use 15L G tour bite and it helps to control it, I did have to spec up the 290 but my only complaint would be the string pattern is to open, tighten it up like the origin, and I’d probably switch, I think like the 98 or the other aero 100 better than these 2
It actually sounds a lot like the AeroPro Control which came out at the same time as the AeroPro Drive, but no one ever talks about that racket even though I loved it.
Added a smidgen of lead at 3/9, and even smaller amount at 10/2, with tungsten in buttcap to keep balance. Feels better, less harsh. In contrast, I love the sync in this. Going to try sync main/restring cross and see what that does next.
Dude, I also loved this stick and thought long and hard about switching to it...still have one that I might fiddle with. Love it at the net in particular - rock solid stability, and of course much better mobility than the origin while in the throes of a real match.
I LOVE your creativity to try stuff with intros or elements. You've drawn a lot from TG previously and I loved this near term apocalyptic take. The ad placement felt like something out of a game like Bioshock, where the ad tone is too cheery for the dreary reality. The only thing I don't like about watching videos like this is that I immediately want to spend money I don't have on more racquets that may or may not suit my playstyle.
I´m not a Rafa fan, but in 2019 I could get on a good price 2 Pure Aero 2017, since then, it´s my main racket. I had to add some weight at 3 and 9 (10 grams) and at the handle (12 grams).
I love my pure aero 98 but this video just made me want to try this so much! you said that your model came way over spec at 338 ssw, it advertised at 323 ssw, do you think a spec up is vital? get it up to 330 or 335 ssw?
Awesome man! Did I sense a touch of Fallout mixed with Bladerunner here? I'm sure those played a role in your inspiration, no? Keep doing this stuff! Unique!
Nice video work. As for the frame, not a lot of control or precision to be had, but if lots of spin to big targets is your thing, there are not much better.
I have been using the pure aero rafa 100 for 9 months. 300g and 7 pts HL. I find the difference in specs from the Origin quite strange. Overall I agree it has a verrry muted feel, but I've been ripping topspin like a demon with it. Still, with the lack of connection to the ball, I've opted to go for the pro staff v14 X after doing a demo.
I just switched from a pure aero 98 to pure aero rafa 290. It gives me a a more consistent and depper ball. 20% better i would say. Pure aero 98 is still a little bit more stable and powerful , but just a little bit. If you have a western grip , i would say go for rafa 290 without fear. If you dont have a westen grip , well , may be it is not a bad idea to demo it first
If you were to customize a vcore 100 in order to get the same spin and quality of the rafa, what would you do? As far as strings, lead, and maybe grip?
I would go down a grip size but built up the flare on the buttcap to help me keep a looser grip on the frame. Weight at 12 until 330-335SW (depending on how things feel) then weight at the top of the grip (7 inches) until I feel like I can time my backhand returns.
thanks dawg! I think the average person will prefer the additional comfort that the regular version offers. That said, I think the 2023 will be forgotten and the PA Rafa will go down as an underappreciated classics. Much lower production numbers, a more unique playing experience and connect feel. I would rather use the Rafa every day of the week.
The standard aero 100 you mention at 10.00 as being clunky and muted, are you talking about the current 2023 model? Because you said it was the best pure aero yet in your review 1 year ago and you seemed to love it. Not trying to trick you up, just wondering which one you're talking about.
Hi Beckett, I currently use a 2023 pure aero 100 and it will be almost 2 years since I bought it in early last year. That racket does not look like it responds to my play style anymore, as I like to flatten out many of my shots while still hitting some spin shots in kind of a 50/50 flat/spin. I have been considering the pure aero 98, but that seems to be too stiff, so my main considerations right now are the pure aero Rafa 290 and head speed mp. I am an aggressive baseliner beginning to play matches and tournaments. Which racket do you recommend?
I think the PA 100 is better for flat shots than the Rafa 290. The 290 really needs you to rip up the back of the ball whereas the 100 plays better striking through the ball. The 98 makes a lot of sense and should be ok with a softer string if you don't have a history of arm issues. If you do, maybe look at the EZONE 100.
WO is a lot better on my 2 handed backhand and on returns, but I play better with my Rafa on that whole. The massive power from the Rafa is harnessed but the huge spin so my balls feel heavier (according to opponents) and I can play higher margin points. The Rafa helps me play one more ball in the rally compared to WO.
Brilliant, brilliant vid boys, keep it up. Just noticed on TW forums that your Raffa is 338g, 32.9cm, 338sw. Got a few questions regarding this, could you take a look? 1) Did you need to tail weight this racket, if so how did you do it? (I'm finding using a leather grip/ thicker OG just isn't as good a feeling for me as weighing the butt cap - I suspect this is due to frame polarization) 2) RW on your Rafa is 160, I remember you preffered a lower RW for your height, with that in mind, did you aim for that figure? 3) Do you know the twist weight for your Rafa? Do you think this is an important part of what makes thia racket sing? Huge thanks in advance. Hopefully this info will help old school customerizers looking back on this post in the dystopian FedAce future.
Hahaha yes 100% 1. I did the VT Leather grip (double wrap around the base to build up the flare) and 5g at 7 inches. My Rafa was way off spec though. I have another one coming. 2. In this case I just customized by feel. I tried adding extra weight to the buttcap but that slowed down the frame too much and I lost the potency on my FH and the thing became way too much to serve with. For some reason this setup is the best balance between a loose arm (the whole point of RW) and being able to consistency time the ball. More weight was better for timing but worse for looseness. 3. I believe it's in the same ball park as the Origin so 15 strung. I'm shocked that this works for me. Usually I really struggle with high TW but there's some sort of witchcraft going on here. TBD.
@@TennCom You must have added apprx 15-20 g near the handle or the throat? Imo changing mgri that significantly make it a completely different racquet. The whole point of this racquet is about high sw and low static weight, but after adding so much weight, it becomes a regular player's racquet.
