      Lila I use the adjustment layer- crop/multiply mask method which allows me to adjust for TH-cam/Instagram later on 🤠 (Vegas pro user lately!) Sometimes I have short promotional sponsored clips so the crop method is very helpful for changing on the fly!

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiii! thank you so much! unfortunately that's not possible by changing the aspect ratio. However, you can create fake white bars by creating a color matte (white) and crop it to a bar size. Then copy it (hit alt and hold alt while you click and drag on the color matte layer) and reposition both to make them look like white bars :) I hope this helps!!

    Hi. when I change the Aspect ratio I get black bars on the sides and when I click to fit to frame size nothing happen? Im using premiere pro. thx

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hiii! that's correct, because using that feature will make sure all of the video is in frame. If you want to remove the black bars, you need to cut off a bit of the video, which is why it doesn't work that way. There's a new effect now called "auto reframe" and you can simply reframe the entire sequence by clicking on the sequence in the project panel, click "auto reframe sequence" and choose the aspect ratio. What you can also do is scaling up the video until the black bars on the sides disappear and then right click on motion in the effects control panel. Then click on "save preset" and now you can apply this preset to all the clips in one go! Select all the clips on your timeline and apply the preset and it's all reframed to how you want in seconds. :) I hope this helps!!

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SaladeFrisee you're welcome! For future reference: divide the first number (the width) by 2.3. If you can't remember the number, just divide the aspect ratio and you'll get it. Same goes for 16:9 for example. 16:9=1.77(bunch of numbers here)... and 1920/1.77= 1080!

    • @daysandwords
      @daysandwords 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lilafromyoutube Yeah, I always remember it as 1.77 for 16:9 because on the back of most DVDs it gives it in that ratio (although it normally either says 1.78 or more commonly 1.85 and I understand that this has something to do with the film because of the sound 'track' at the side of old film, so it would add width that wasn't actually in the picture.
      I used to love all this stuff; I remember when I bought my projector, I sat there doing the maths on how big every size of TV was in actual square metres as opposed to just "58 inches" or whatever. Let's be honest it was so I could flex about how much bigger my projector screen was.
      Great video! I think I'm happy with 16:9 for now, but I like the 2:1 smartphone idea!

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @EdgeWoodEnt
    @EdgeWoodEnt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    okay so I put my sequence in 2:1 but my footage got smaller so I watched a similar video to this one and they said scale it to 200 afterwards so I did and my footage still didn’t fit in I recorded off my iPhone by the way

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don’t need to scale it to 200% unless you changed the settings to 2:1 4K instead of 1080p (assuming you shot your video in 1080p). If you filmed your videos in 1920x1080, in the sequence settings, change the frame size/ratio to ‘1920x960’ and then scale it up to about 110%. If you filmed in 4K (4096x2160), in the sequence settings, change the frame size/ratio to ‘4096x2048’ and scale it up to about 110%.

    Why all the top cinemetic creators like sam kolder and taylor cut films dont use the aspect ratio way?? They all use png, you can clearly see it when you watch their video at low resolution.. if you check many top creators are doing this for some reason

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I know. I don't have a clear answer for that. I think most of them use the crop effect. I usually do the same because I want to animate the black bars and you can't achieve that with changing the aspect ratio.

    i upload to facebook and youtube with a frame size of 1920 horizontal by 803 vertical which gives me black bars in youtube but fills the phone screen but only allows me to play it back in 720p rather than 1080p on facebook but on youtube it allows me to play back in 1080p. does anyone know the reason for this as last year I uploaded a video to facebook with same aspect ratio and it allowed me to play back at 1080p?

    I know you're talking about youtube but just so you know, you can't deliver a random res to a streaming network or a distributor. They have strict guidelines. If they ask for HD it has to be 1920 by 1080. So if you deliver HD and want the bars, you need that adj layer. That's why filmmakers use it and clueless copy cat youtubers clone it without knowing why filmmakers do it. Some distributors also reject black bars altogether and they'll be very clear in their deliverable requirements stating that No Black Bars should be in the video.

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes sense! I don’t think it’s fair to call TH-camrs clueless copycat TH-camrs. It just works differently on here. Obviously when you produce videos or films for other purposes, do your research :)

    Hii, love the vid. Is it possible to change the aspect ratio when you already have a sequence and multiple edited clips?

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! You can change it by going to sequence > sequence settings in the top menu or if you want to e.g. turn a video into a vertical video, you can use the "auto reframe" effect which you can find when you search for effects

    Great tips, Lila! Question for you: I shoot in C4K (4096x2160 or 1.90:1), and generally export for TH-cam in UHD (3840x2160 or 1.78:1). So that difference naturally gives me small black bars on top and bottom, without having to do anything special during my editing. Do you see any downsides to doing it this way?
    The benefit of doing it this way for TH-cam delivery (I think) is that when I'm editing in a C4K timeline, I'm using the full height/width of the sequence, so I'm not having to either crop or place bars over parts of my original image. The only real downside I've found in practice is that I have to upscale 1080-120 footage an extra 7% to fill the full width of the sequence, but Premiere handles that pretty well.
    Anyway, just wondering if you see any other potential issues with changing the aspect ratio upon export rather than during editing. Thanks, and keep up the great work! 🙌

    • @lilafromyoutube
      @lilafromyoutube  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like a pretty smart solution, but I'm afraid it will give you the same result as placing the bars or cropping the video by using the crop effect. You'll see what I mean if you lower the resolution of your video to 144p. Your bars become blurry too. If you lower the resolution of my video (2:1), you see that the black bars are still sharp. It's not the end of the world of course, most people probably watch your videos in good enough quality, but it's something to think about for sure! Let me know what you think!
      Thanks Brian!!
